Q:Does this particular unit include the heat traps? The manual says "Heat Traps: For increased energy efficiency, some water heaters have been supplied with factory installed 3/4” NPT heat traps in the hot outlet line and cold water inlet line." Note the word "some". So does this one include them? They are shown in the cold and hot water nipples on page 27 of the manual.
If not, or perhaps even if they do, is it advisable to do the old-timey loop in the hot water line tubing to keep the heat from rising in the lines? I am thinking of picking up a flexible line long enough to loop on itself on the HW side.

A: Walker = ?? Heat Traps ?? ...(additional NOT 'bad' but, also not mandatory!)
a) - (Heat Traps) exist inside those already-installed Nipples.
b) - Additional cost of long 'flex' connection on H.W. Outlet "O.K." but unnecessary.

A: YES. Two small fittings are installed where your pipes enter and exit the tank. A Teflon ball sits in the fitting for the hot water outlet, while a polypropylene ball sits in the one for the cold water inlet.
When your water heater is in standby mode (i.e. you’re not drawing water), the balls rest in from of the valves and prevent heat from escaping (convection). As you turn on a hot water tap, the balls are lifted out of their seating to allow unobstructed flow and drop back down when you turn the tap off.

A: Hi Walker and thank you for your question. Yes they are supplied with the unit. For the loop question you would need to check local codes and speak with an installer.
by|Mar 30, 2021
A: Don't know about heat traps. However, this unit comes with a motorized gate that seals the burner vent when heater is not heating, further trapping heat within the tank.

A: If what you are referring to as the power damper, yes. Not sure about any other extra.

A: What is your question? This is a natural gas water heater. Electric Water Heaters are much cheaper to buy! They are more expensive to operate.
by|Mar 27, 2021
A: What is your question? I installed the Rheem water heater mentioned above and am very happy with this product. I replaced an older unit that was not energy star. The new unit provides more than enough hot water and very quickly. One bath, 3 bedroom, washing machine & no dishwasher.

A: This appliance is equipped with an ignition device which automatically lights the pilot. DO NOT attempt to light the pilot by hand. Wait 5 minutes to clear out any gas. If you do not smell any gas, turn on electric power to the appliance. Slide the ON/OFF switch located on the gas control to the "ON" Position. Set the thermostat dial to the desired setting.
