A:  There is a latch on the black step that locks over a bar when fully opened. It will stay that way until you manually lift the latch, pull up on the black step and fold the legs together. Hope this helps.

A:  I'm not sure I understand your question but I will try to answer. It locks when you open it/set it up and then you have to lift up the black shelf part to close it. Hopefully that's helpful.
