Q:I'm thinking of using this beneath the deck of my walk behind mower to make it easier to clean and to prevent the deck from rotting. Would this work toward that end?

Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out! Rust-Oleum Automotive Rubberized Undercoating Spray can be used on metal surfaces to provide corrosion protection from water, salt and other chemicals. This product will cure to a rubberized finish, which may not provide an easy to clean finish. If wanting to protect the surface and create a glossy finish, which tend to be easier to clean, we recommend Rust-Oleum Automotive Enamel Spray Paint instead. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Automotive-12-oz-Gloss-Black-Enamel-Spray-Paint-252462/202623047 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

      Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help, Kenny. Rust-Oleum Automotive Rubberized Undercoating Spray provides corrosion protection for undercarriages, wheel wells and quarter panels. The undercoating dries to a soft, rubbery finish that helps reduce road noise and protects against moisture, rust and road debris, it is not suitable for application to truck beds. For truck beds, we recommend using one of our Automotive Truck Bed Coatings. https://www.homedepot.com/s/rustoleum%20truck%20bed%20coating?NCNI-5 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

        Answer This Question

A:  Don't know if I would trust it for that. I've used it for it's intended purpose (undercoating), and it didn't hold up very well. It's definitely not a "rubberized ' undercoating. It goes on very thin, like a spray paint. I had to apply several coats. In the end , it was peeling off anyway.

A:  Hi Cole, thank you for reaching out! Prior to applying our Rust-Oleum Automotive Rubberized Undercoating, we recommend using a wire brush or sandpaper to remove loose, flaking rust from the surface. Any remaining light rust is safe to apply over. You can also prime the surface with our Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer, or Rusty Metal Primer: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Stops-Rust-12-oz-Flat-Rusty-Metal-Primer-Spray-7769830/202056392 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2
