      Q:CAN ANY OF YOU MASONRY FOLKS GIVE ME A RECIPE TO CONVERT TYPE S TO TYPE M?. CAN'T FIND TYPE M IN CALIFORNIA. I NEED TO REBED ROOF RIDGE TILES. PRIOR BEDDING WITH TYPE S DIDN'T HOLD UP, I'D LIKE TO GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME. CAN I JUST ADD LIME OR SAND OR PORTLAND?

      Answer This Question

      A:  Sorry, but we have no formula to convert Type S Mortar into a Type M Mortar. Type M has more masonry cement than the Type S. You may have to make a custom mix altogether. A Type M Mortar formula can be found online.

                    A:  As a caution mortar mixes are designed for wall applications only and to be installed at a maximum 1/2" in thickness. Typically when we are asked for the yield in cubic yards for this material, the project itself is a floor application. Please call us at 800-374-0784 so that we can discuss your project to be sure that you a successful outcome.

                      A:  Rule of thumb is 2/3 ft3 per 80lbs bag. For one yd3 (27ft3), you'll need: 27(ft3) / 0.667(ft3/bag) => 18 bags.
