A:  Hi Ioinva, We are glad to provide details to your question about the ice maker on this Samsung refrigerator model. The plastic grid, the first cover/layer, above the dual ice maker is used to cover the ice bucket from foreign material. The second cover also has the same function as the first with a scoop tray that is used to store the scoop. We discourage using the ice maker bucket for storing frozen food. Frozen food can damage the ice maker/bucket especially when the doors of it are opened/closed. Leo
