Q:Can you use this Product with radiant floot heating?
by|Apr 20, 2021

Answer This Question

A:  Yes

by|Jun 10, 2021

A:  If you are planning to use radiant heating, I would suggest the Ditra-heat-duo product. Read the installation instructions at the mfg website. You need to keep the heating wire a certain distance from fixtures (toilet, sink, tubs, etc.). HD carries the duo product as well as the heat wire and thermostats. I would also recommend researching your options and installation requirements before you buy. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Schluter-Systems-Ditra-Heat-Duo-3-ft-2-5-8-in-x-2-ft-7-3-8-in-Uncoupling-Membrane-Sheet-DHD8MA/310502296

Q:I want glued ditra over plywood then in same time do skim coat ower it ( fil up) that good idea?

    Answer This Question

A:  I would follow Schutler's instalation instructions. One thing not in there, if you are using thinset on plywood, it is best to wet the plywood before adding the thinset. Dry plywood will absorbe water from the thinset. This will keep you thinset from sticking the say it should. https://www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en_US/Membranes/Uncoupling-(DITRA)/Schluter%C2%AE-DITRA-&-DITRA-XL/p/DITRA

A:  1) Ditra membrane is NOT "glued" to a plywood subfloor. The membrane is installed using thinset cement. Schluter recommends using modified thinset for adhering Ditra to plywood. 2) I think you are asking if you should immediately fill the Ditra's top surface with thinset. NO. The top surface of the membrane should remain unfilled until you are actually setting the tile. FYI, the thinset used for adhering the tile should be unmodified thinset.

A:  You need to read the direction .You need to use non-modified mortar to attach to the plywood and modified to attach the tile to it .

A:  Modified thinset to bond to plywood. I let mine cure before laying tile with regular thinset. I did this in a dojo for my kids, so it needed to withstand more than “normal” use. Sparing mats are over the tile, so I’m sure that dampens impact even more... but I have had zero issues thus far

          Answer This Question

A:  You do realize this is flooring right? Not insulation...this is made to stop water from going into your subfloor and/or ceiling. supposed to tile over it.... You want sound barrier then add more plywood or insulation or other sound products.

Q:should I place this under my shower pan or install pan and but this up to the front edge.

A:  Kyle, I recommend doing a you tube search of Schluter Ditra, there are some great video that cover shower installations. I just can't tell enough from what you said to give you an answer. I've attached one video. This is the first one I found about Ditra, really explains it well. Hope this helps! John

A:  I would not recommend running the Ditra under the shower pan. So, install the pan and butt this material up to the edge of the pan. The shower pan should sit firmly on a solid floor surface, the Ditra membrane ( without tile installed on top of it) has some "give" which will allow movement of the shower pan. That movement will cause problems at the pan / wall tile junctions. If you are trying to continue/ maintain the waterproof floor surface under the pan, you could install Schluter's Kerdi membrane under the pan and then seam the two materials slightly outside of the pan. Seems a waste of time and money since the membrane will be punctured to allow for the shower pan drain.

Q:Does this product create a thermal break?

                Answer This Question

A:  Not for thermal break. Is a decoupling membrane. If installing over plywood, be sure to wet the plywood with a sponge, otherwise it will soak some of the moisture out of your thinset. Read instructions on schluter's website, make sure you use correct thinset (modified vs unmodified) for your application.

                by|Jul 3, 2020

A:  No, this does not create a thermal break. The Schluter Ditra-Heat-Duo (HD internet #310502271 or model DHD810M) does provide a thermal break for the Ditra-Heat system while still providing the benefits of the regular Ditra product.

                        Answer This Question

A:  Not to say this is the only way, but how I would do it. Use a shop vac to get as much loose stuff up as possible, even sweeping it with a stiff broom. Mix the thin set that goes between the fabric side of the Ditra and the existing floor thinner than normal, but not watery.( That's what the manufacturer recommends too). You can use this step to partially even the floor as well. Once it bonds, it's there to stay and should make the floor stable. Read the directions about modified and unmodified thin set. You should be ready to tile after that.
