A:  AD-- When clearing snow from dirt or gravel surfaces, extreme caution must be used. This will also require adjustment to the skid shoes for proper operation. Please refer to the Use and Care Manual located under Info & Guides on this page for more information.

        by|May 5, 2023

A:  Great machine but absolutely would NOT use this on dirt. It’s designed to be used on snow. Also, safety issue if you start throwing out dirt.

          by|May 5, 2023

A:  Do you mean to remove snow from dirt? If so, yes but only with extreme caution, and proper adjustment to the skid shoes.

                    Answer This Question

A:  The hole on the end of each axle is for the axle pin lock. For greater traction, lock both wheel hubs to the axle for drive from both tires. If you would prefer easier turning, unlock one of the wheels which will then act as an idler wheel. Please refer to page 11 of your Owner's Manual or the Use and Care Manual located under Info & Guides on this page for more information.

                    by|May 5, 2023

A:  The pin should go through at least one wheel. The other should go on the outside for easy turning or through the second wheel for more traction

A:  Bruce - I am not sure where you live, but I take my lawn mower, and after this winter my new snow blower to my Lawn Mower repair guy near my home. You might need to get more specific for Home Depot - and say "where do I get my warranty work done" -- or check the owners manual, or Sno-Tek website. Hope this was somewhat helpful. Have a great day.

Q:The engine snorts when I engage the auger, even if I'm doing it very slowly and gently. Is this normal for this particular machine?

                            Answer This Question

A:  The issue could be the level of Choke that you have engaged, When the Auger is engaged, there is additional effort for the engine and if the choke is not properly engaged, it could snort. If that is not the issue, I suggest as long as the Snow season is over that you have you machine maintained by an Arien Repair/Sevice center to make sure it is not any other issue, that a tune up can not repair.

                            by|May 5, 2023

A:  It's not the choke. That's not open. It's just that the engine snorts when the auger is being engaged but then it runs fine.

A:  Rocky, When engaging the attachment on this or any unit, we would expect a temporary dip in RPM's while the engine adjusts for the additional load. If you feel there is a problem with the unit we would suggest you consult your local service dealer for additional information.

A:  I have not had any “snorting” coming from this machine. It is in its second MI season and is operating as expected.

A:  The engine should sound different with a load on it but I wouldn’t say a snort is normal. I would have it checked out.

A:  I have that same model and do not have that happen. Is the start/run switch in the "RUN" position, all the way up? Do u mean a short sound or does it hesitate? Auger , if free and clear, shouldn't affect the running that way unless maybe binding.

A:  Mine was delivered broken. It would not start at all. I had to pay to have carburetor cleaned, Used one time - worked but nothing spectacular. Same problem this fall. Had to pay for another carburetor cleaning including paying for transport to shop. Manufacturer blamed ethanol in gas - gas from same container ran fine in my ten year old riding mower. Would never buy anything from this manufacturer again. Home Depot would not assist with this problem. Now I am told to run all gas out of unit every 2 months and drain bowl also. Sad situation.

A:  Sarav, You may try to drain all fuel from the fuel system and replace it with fresh gas. The spark plug may also need to be replaced. We would suggest you consult with your local service dealer for additional diagnosis and repair.

A:  If you stored your blower with fuel in it without fuel stabilizer it might have clogged your fuel line and carburetor. You may need to clean it out. I have the same problem.

A:  It sounds you may have contaminated gas. First, before you filled your tank, did you use any Gas Stabilizer ? If so, then that should not be the cause. If you can see and feel up to it, have you pulled out the spark plug and looked for any contamination there of if it is wet, that is a sign of flooding with the primer action. Let it breath for a while and try the electric spark to run the cylinder for a few turns with the plug out. If all that fails, then I would suggest to go to a local Arien repair center and have you unit tunes up and checked out.

A:  I will admit I have probably not maintained the exterior of the unit as it should be but when we have a storm I leave outside covered with a tarp. After it is used I brush the snow off and cover it with the tarp again. There is no rust except for on the scraper blade below the auger. I love this machine and consider it to be one of the best purchases I have ever made.

A:  The easy answer to this is to make sure all snow and ice have been removed from the machine and that the auger and housing are are dry and that the impeller is clean and dry. After that you can place the unit on a rubberized mat and place a block of wood under the scrapper bar to keep it off the ground. Running the engine for 5 min or so after all else has been done will help dry out the engine components and the housing area. Also at least every other season you should have your unit serviced by an Arien dealership/ repair center to make sure the spark plug is ok and that all filters are clean and any parts in need of replacement are properly maintained. A little expense now will save from a major repair or worse , replacement in years to come.

A:  The best way to reduce the chance of rust on your unit is to follow the storage instructions found in your Owner's Manual. The unit needs to be cleaned and dried before storage. Also the unit should be stored in a cool dry area.
