A:  Made in China

A:  On March 9, 2023 the packaging states "Made in China"

A:  Per online search on another web site this item appears to be made in Mexico.

A:  The replacement blades for the 12-951 are part # 12-350.

A:  It would be rare that your local store would stock the spokeshave. You can order the item online and have it delivered to your local Home Depot store.

A:  The last time I looked it was not available in my local store but was on line. I'll bet that if you asked about one at your local store you will get a confused stare and a question- "what is a spoke shave". Good luck otherwise.

A:  These are similar to the 151 model but no model number on spokeshave and england on the blade

A:  Under current model designation, this is a Stanley 12-951 flat base spokeshave. Under the historical designation, it was known as a “151” model and the numerals 151 are still cast into the metal body of the spokeshave.

A:  Hi Frank, According to the product listing on Home Depot's website, it is a Stanley Model # 12-951 Spokeshave with Flat Base.

A:  It can. You would do do better probably with a drawknife.

A:  Hi Mark, a spokeshave works well for rounding over sharp edges and for shaving wagon wheel spokes (hence the name), chair legs and curved surfaces. If you want a rough-hewn look, use an adze, chisel or gouge. I carved a rough-hewn 90" airplane propeller decoration into the 6" x 12" Doug Fir beam on my carport with a 1" wide gouge (see photo). Have fun! : )

A:  I see no reason why one couldn't use one of these on a hand-hewn beam.

A:  Yes it can be used on hand hewn beam

A:  Yes, parts kits are available for this spokeshave. Unfortunately, the replacements parts aren’t offered individually. You purchase an entire parts kit through Stanley’s parent company. Last I checked, the replacement parts kit was at least 60 percent of the cost that HD charges for a complete spokeshave.
