A: I don't know but I have seen that Prop 65 statement on many other items. I wear a dust mask when I shred the leaves.
A: https://oehha.ca.gov/media/downloads/proposition-65//p65list010320.pdf I have attached a list of Ca Prop 65 You have a list of what materials it was made of. Here is a list for you to check and see if any materials are on the list. The other concern they could be talking about as it grinds the leaves or material up it could make chemicals used for weed control airborne
A: Dear Home Depot Customer, The Sun Joe Shredder Joe 12 in. 13 Amp 16:1 Reduction Ratio Electric Leaf Mulcher/Shredder is made out of plastic and metal. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks Customer Service Team Snow Joe + Sun Joe
A: Not exceptionally good with wet leaves.
A: Yes just do dry leaves.
A: It will shred wet leaves if you feed them through slowly. If you jam the hopper full of the wet leaves, it will clog.
A: Don't know. Works great with dry leaves but never tried wet ones. I would think they would stick to the sides of the shredder and make a mess. But, like I said, I never tried it.
A: Dear Craig, It is not recommended to place wet leaves in the Sun Joe Shredder Joe 12 in. 13 Amp 16:1 Reduction Ratio Electric Leaf Mulcher/Shredder as it will clog the funnel of the unit and will not shred properly. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks Customer Service Team Snow Joe + Sun Joe
A: I put very few wet leaves in it so I can't really say. I put damp leaves in before and there was no problem.
A: Won't perform well with wet leaves.
A: Craig if you put them in a rake full at a time and give the shedder time to mulch them up it will mulch but being plastic the leaves will build up and cause it to jam. Just keep an eye on the mulching area so the build up don’t over work the motor.
A: I have never tried magnolia leaves but my oak leaves are pretty large and it shreds them easily.
A: I kind a think not - it's not that powerful. It does a fine job on oak leaves.
A: Dear Bob, Yes, the Sun Joe Shredder Joe 12 in. 13 Amp 16:1 Reduction Ratio Electric Leaf Mulcher/Shredder is capable if shredding large magnolia leaves. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks Customer Service Team Snow Joe + Sun Joe
A: The shredder uses a "weed whip" string to shred leaves. I use it for oak and maple leaves and it does a great job. I don't think that magnolia leaves would be any different.
A: Yes it will. It just takes a bit longer.
A: No, it's not heavy duty enough for that. The most it does is wet leaves. It won't work on sticks/twigs either. But, it makes GREAT mulch for my garden.
A: Dear Brian, The Sun Joe Shredder Joe 12 in. 13 Amp 16:1 Reduction Ratio Electric Leaf Mulcher/Shredder does not have the capability of shredding cardboard. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks Customer Service Team Snow Joe + Sun Joe
A: I did not try that so I can't say for sure, but I don't think it would work well that. For two reasons, one there are gaps through which the material must pass and the gaps are significantly smaller than the top opening, so whatever passes through would have to be in strips. Second, the shredding is done by plastic lines like a grass string trimmer only wider diameter. For shredding cardboard I think you would need metal blades.
A: I would not recommend it for that use.
A: No
A: I never tried shredding cardboard in my shredder -- only leaves. That being said, if it can shred oak leaves, it can probably shred cardboard.
A: This is essentially a large string trimmer within an enclosed space. It handles dry leaves well, but I doubt it would work on cardboard.
A: Dear josh, The line on the Sun Joe Shredder Joe 12 in. 13 Amp 16:1 Reduction Ratio Electric Leaf Mulcher/Shredder cannot be replaced with metal brained line. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks Customer Service Team Snow Joe + Sun Joe
A: It would probably work if it’s not to heavy for the motor to get the rpms up to the speed to shred. It may void your warranty though.
A: No I tried that was not good
A: No
A: I would say yes to flowers but most vegetables will be t juicy unless the are dry or free of juice.
A: Yes there is an electric chipper shreader . Expensive . Costs as much as a gas chipper / shedder .
A: It's an inverted weed wacker. Works well with soft (not branches) vegitation. Very modular makes it easy to assemble and maintain. Also, it is well supported.
A: GO WITH A BIGGER CUTTER
A: It is not good for shredding anything too woody or vine-like, but does fine with leaves whether green or dried. I have never put vegetables into it. Most vegetables will probably be too hard and/or stringy
A: Dear Home Depot Customer, At this time we do not have a unit that will shred debris such as flower/vegetable stems. The Sun Joe Shredder Joe 12 in. 13 Amp 16:1 Reduction Ratio Electric Leaf Mulcher/Shredder mainly shred leaves. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks Customer Service Team Snow Joe + Sun Joe
A: The spinning Medium is what shreds the debris, tougher the debris, tougher the Medium Required, plastic, up to steel. Plastic precuts Sun Joe provided broke easily on Laurel & bamboo leaves, upgraded to square plastic, much better results.
A: I bought a separate electric small-diameter chipper/shredder to do stemmed debris like annuals and trimmings from shrubs and small tree limbs. It will handle the leaves on the plants as well as the stems/branches.
A: I would not recommend it.
A: Yes
A: If it was loose, possibly.
A: Dry, probably. Not sure I would want to stand near it while manure was processed as it throws up some "dust".
A: Dear Home Depot Customer, The Sun Joe Shredder Joe 12 in. 13 Amp 16:1 Reduction Ratio Electric Leaf Mulcher/Shredder instantly turns the hefty heaps of dead leaves crowding your yard into nutrient-rich mulch that can be easily disposed of or utilized as compost. It is not recommended to be use with dry horse manure. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks Customer Service Team Snow Joe + Sun Joe
A: I wouldn't advise it. Whole tumbleweeds would overload the lines. It would be similar to taking a weed trimmer to it. If it was all broken up, maybe.
A: Yes, it will work on tumbleweeds.
A: Dear Warren, The Sun Joe Shredder Joe 12 in. 13 Amp 16:1 Reduction Ratio Electric Leaf Mulcher/Shredder is capable to work on tumbleweeds. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks Customer Service Team Snow Joe + Sun Joe
A: This is basically a big string trimmer. It works great on dry leaves. When I lived in the California desert, the tumble weeds I encountered were pretty tough and large. Getting them into the hopper might be a challenge. If your tumbleweeds can be chopped up by a regular string trimmer, this would chop them up also.
A: No
A: Easy to assemble & run. Just change out weedeater line once mulching slows down. I'm 67, a woman, & loving it.
A: I have used the Sun Joe Shredder for two years. I have shred cottonwood and mulberry tree leaves with no problem. It also shreds pine needles well, although ponderosa pine needles require more time to feed. My only complaint is the hopper is too fragile at its bottom. Inevitable rocks raked up with the leaves and needles crack and chip away at it. The plastic hopper should be thicker or reinforced with metal. I have had to replace the hopper once. I am thinking of reinforcing it myself with a sheet metal.
A: I have had my shredder for a couple of years and love saving my fallen leaves. I bag them up till I have time to shred them up. The shredder works very well with a large garbage can under it to catch the shredded leaves. I then bag the shredded leaves and put them in garden beds and compost pile as needed.
A: Dear Home Depot Customer, The Sun Joe Shredder Joe 12 in. 13 Amp 16:1 Reduction Ratio Electric Leaf Mulcher/Shredder is very reliable and efficient. It does a 16:1 ration making life little easier than raking the leaves. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks Customer Service Team Snow Joe + Sun Jo
A: I found that this item is very reliable. Only thing I've had to do is change the shredder lines when they wear down.
A: I use the standard lawn/leaf bags. 30 gal trash bags would work. The fine-shredded output is quite dense so you might avoid really cheap bags that might not be able to handle the weight.
A: Dear Home Depot Customer, You place a large plastic bag underneath the Sun Joe Shredder Joe 12 in. 13 Amp 16:1 Reduction Ratio Electric Leaf Mulcher/Shredder. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks Customer Service Team Snow Joe + Sun Jo
A: Large leaf bags would work best
A: I use 33 gallon plastic drawstring trash bags. This is the same size bag that I used to fit inside my large outdoor trash cans. The 33 gal bags fit between the Sun Joe legs fine, slip under the elastic bands at the bottom of the shredder and still reach to the ground so the weight of debris in the bag is resting on the ground rather than hanging on the shredder.
A: I use the large contactor trash bags.
