A:  These carbide tipped bits are designed specifically and only for concrete and masonry applications and will not be able to drill a hole into thick, hardened steel bolts. Using this bit in hardened steel will result in the carbide tip chipping and breaking. A better option is to use bits and extractors made for this purpose, such as those made by DensLor Tools.

A:  These are not metal cutting bits. You would waist your time and money using these on metal.

Q:I bought this bit and put it into my drill and noticed the bit not being straight when it's spinning. I tried other bit that I have and it spins straight without any wobble. So my drill machine is okay. Or does this bit require some intermediary part before I insert it into my drill? I bought the Tapcon screws too.

A:  Maybe it came defective but it is suppose to be straight !!. Also this drill bit is for concrete only and it is used with a hammer drill not a regular drill !!

                  by|Mar 31, 2021

A:  The Tapcon drill bit should be straight. It does not require an intermediary part before inserting it in a drill. If the Tapcon drill bit you purchased is not straight, we recommend returning it to the store where it was purchased. Q:What diameter holes does this bit create? Exactly 5/32" diameter? All holes I drilled were too big and tapcons didn't hold.

A:  Do not buy a Tapcon bit. They don't hold up. That said, this bit is SUPPOSED to drill holes for 3/16" Tapcon screws, but you are right - all the holes will be too big.

A:  I don't know - I didn't measure the hole. I've put in dozens (maybe hundreds) of Tapcon screws of this size with these bits. If the screws aren't holding I would suggest it's not the bit. You need to overdrill OR clean out the hole. Tapcons fail if they hit too much debris when being set. It may also be technique - you need to keep the drill steady so you're not creating a bigger hole by letting the drill wobble around. Also, don't ream it out. I will sometimes remove the bit to let it cool, but do so carefully. Do not go in and out with the bit to oversize the hole diameter. Hope this helps. Other possibility that's unlikely is that your bit is not straight. Anchors are certainly more reliable than Tapcons. I have about 5% failure rate with small Tapcons. This is always due to debris in the hole more me over-tightening and snapping the head off. If it's critical to get every attachment perfect, anchors are likely better. When I can redrill as needed, it's hard to beat the convenience of Tapcons. If it matters, they make smaller holes (generally) and are very easy to remove.

A:  It is supposed to ensure a tight fit but that only works in theory. The problem is that concrete is rough and the drill bit doesn't cut smooth so you end up with more play than you should. The Tapcon system doesn't really work that well -- I had the same experience. I didn't want to believe the Home Depot salesman who recommended the metal anchors instead but they work much better. Even the plastic are better than the Tapcons. I'm not impressed with them.

A:  When Attaching some Aluminium Nose Trim on my Tiled/Concrete Steps...I suspected to have a Similar problem, so for Insurance? I added some HD 3x Loctite Or Liquid Nails Adheasive for Concrete & Metal to the Tapcon Screws and I also Put the Adhesive on the Metal that was being attached to the Concrete.. Its been 2 yrs now and So far so good.. For something more important to secure? I would use both the Tapcon, Adheasive and Anchors..like for everyother Hole of ea. type..

A:  For installing 3/16" Tapcon anchors, use a 5/32" Tapcon drill bit. For installing 1/4" Tapcon anchors, use a 3/16" Tapcon drill bit. If the holes are still too big, please call our Customer Service Department at 1-877-489-2726.
