Q:Is this doable for a toilet to use for camping? Lol

Answer This Question

A:  I would imagine so, but you might want to bring a toilet seat as the edges may hurt to sit on.

by|Jun 8, 2023

A:  Yes, we use a pool noodle split to cushion the rim. We only use it as a composting toilet, with pine pellets, for solids only.

A:  Hello Camper, no LOL about it, this is a standard 5-gallon bucket which can be used with any product (such as a toilet seat kit) that is designed for such a use. It should accommodate up to 200 lbs.

A:  Hi Gene - Yes, I believe so. You can have them shipped to the store, but I don't think they have the special price in the store. Although, I think Home Depot has a price match policy, you might want to check with your local store and see if that would cover purchasing six of their buckets. I work for the manufacturer so I don't know the intricacies of the store policies.

A:  Hi Susan, we do not consider these food safe. Neither the orange colorant nor the resin used is tested for pureness. They are BPA free.

            Answer This Question

A:  Hi Paul, I can't imagine that your stain would be affected in four days. The buckets are solvent resistant and, if you are using a lid, that will help keep debris out. We don't recommend long-term storage, but for what you are proposing, I don't foresee a problem. It isn't anything we test for, so I don't have any data to lean on.

A:  They are very durable and well made. I use mine for different yard and garden jobs but mostly for portable patio misters. During the summer we have triple digit heat, the misters make our patio very enjoyable,

A:  Hi Keit - No, lids are not included, they are sold separately so you can choose the lid that best fits your needs. . Generally, we have three types of lids: "Easy-off" pushes on and off much like the lids on a deli container. "Heavy Duty Lids with Gasket" provide a tighter seal and have a tear-tab to remove. "Screw-Top Lid" is a two part design. A ring sits permanently on the lip of the bucket and the middle section screws on and off. We sell orange, white, and black lids to Home Depot on a regular basis. Our 5-gallon buckets are a standard size so any 5-gallon lid will fit.

A:  Hello Jason, I have seen people use them for this purpose. The extreme cold will eventually have a detrimental effect on the bucket so the conditions you storm them in will affect their life. Note that the lifting weight of the buckets is capped at 84 lbs. We have no testing data on this use.

Q:Are these buckets heat-resistant? Chemical-resistant? I need to mix up a sulfur solution which heats up to near-boiling in the chemical reaction. If not, is there a heavier grade bucket available? Thank you so much for your help.

A:  Kate - our buckets are not really tested for this type of application. They are made from HDPE and can sustain short periods up to up to 230°F (110°C.) They are generally chemical-resistant but you should check the properties of the chemicals you are using. We don't supply a heavier bucket, but they do exist.

                                    Answer This Question

A:  Dear Wondering: The #2 symbol does not necessarily mean the bucket is food-safe. Virgin, or non-recycled, HDPE is food-safe, but if that cannot be guaranteed, the bucket should not be labeled as such. Our products are more geared toward paint and DIY so we do not FDA certify. The buckets we label as food-safe are run on a segregated machine and use virgin HDPE. Currently, we only offer white as food-safe; they will be called out with a food-safe sticker. The orange buckets also have colorant that is not tested as food-safe which adds another level of uncertainty. The buckets could be lined with a Mylar lining to be used for planting. It is left to the consumer to decide to use with or without a liner. Hope that sheds some light on the labeling.

                                      Answer This Question

A:  Hello Faye, No, we do not consider the orange Homer buckets food safe. Currently we have only a white food-safe bucket at Home Depot (search Item# 300197644). If a bucket is food safe, it will will be marked explicitly on a sticker with the label. Leaktite's food safe buckets have a sticker with a spoon, fork, and knife with the words "Food Grade Container - Safe for Use With Food." The sticker is black, red, and white.
