I didn’t realize how heavy it would be, but that’s a good thing. I’m almost a senior citizen but there are areas of the yard where the dirt and gravel needs “fixing”. I lift it up about maybe six inches—if that—and gravity takes care of the rest. I like the wooden handle over anything else because wood absorbs the shock. This is well made and should last for years. I also added an image saying where it’s made….

My purpose for the tamper was to help create a transition between my driveway and our newly paved road. Our municipality did not mill the road first but rather paved over the existing pavement. The price was a little steep for the product. It worked very well by compacting the ground door my block wall.

Good Weight and Comfortable Handle

Ames tools are American made with American workers. They happen to be the best hand tools. I don't know why they have lost distribution to chinese tools?

Purchased this for tamping ground. got rid of a stump and now filling in hole. So far it is working out well.Filling in then tamping.
