My deck was stained with Behr solid acrylic in Chocolate some years ago by a previous owner. Had a couple cans in the basement dating to 2016. To Behr's credit, those cans were still fresh and usable. At first, I didn't realize the Chocolate cans in the basement were the same as the deck finish, because the deck is a muted orange-red color - not brown at all. I tested the Chocolate on a board I removed and I couldn't believe that it was the same color as the deck. I thought it was the brown used for the supports. I don't recommend this color if you want something in the brown family. See my photo comparing the previous "Chocolate" stain to Behr's Cordovan Brown that I applied over it.

We spent the better part of last summer prepping and painting our deck. It looked beautiful. We followed every step and even researched the proper way to paint a deck. After one year our deck is trash. We can never get the time and energy put in. We now have even more work than before, just to correct it. It's embarrassing how bad it looks.

This stain covered really good my deck is about 20 years old and this made it come back to life! I recommend this deck solid stain I am impressed and I’m sure you will be!

Okay. It's much redder than it shows. The color they show is #8f4d3f, but mine is much redder. Good luck with that. Kind of give up this brand.

Dang I’m kicking myself for not reading the reviews first!!!!!!!!!! So ORANGE! My favorite color is orange and this color orange on my entire deck is AWFUL! I wish I hadn’t already bought 3 gallons worth! I am so hoping it’ll fade! Don’t do it. I attached some photos of my OrAnGe deck! Pray for fade. Go Broncos I guess.

We recently changed our 350 sqf fence and wanted a real cedar tone color. This is so orange I don't think anyone on this planet wants an orange fence or deck. We spent $500 on paint and its all garbage now. Trust me in real is much brighter than the picture.

I picked this color up after spending way too long trying to rove Behr Deckover that messed up my deck something bad. The color on the can is no where near the interior color. I was hopeful that it would dry darker, but apparently I have a orange deck now. I wanted something brown with just a tinge of red....I got ketchup tinted with orange. Maybe it will grow on me.....maybe it will last longer than the Deckover....maybe it will make it so I have to tear down the deck and never use Behr again. If I bet...it will be the last.

I spend over $500 to buy 15 galons of this stain last july. I power wash the deck and let it dry for 3 days. This is what it looks like less than a year later. Im a professional contractor and thank god this was on my house and not a customers house. I will stay away. I'm already advising all my customers not to buy this product. You have been warned.

No strong smell, easy to apply, dries up easy, consistency is just right, color was great!!! I am happy with the outcome!

I applied this on a new deck three years ago and always followed the directions explicitly. I cleaned it with their Behr product, brushed it with a push broom and power washed it. Two thin coats were applied. Last fall I reapplied because there were some bare spots. In the spring it was peeling off all over in small areas the size of a quarter or half dollar. It is continuing to peel off down to the bare wood. Every day there are more spots. The warranty is useless, they will replace the product or give you a refund. Keep your receipt. But now my deck is screwed! How can I fix this? Use this product at your own risk.

I bought and applied two gallons of Behr Semi-Tranparent Cedar Naturaltone ST-5533 to an old shed. I hated the color, which was orange. In order to cover it, I had to use a solid color, and used Cape Cod Gray SC-365, which was almost white; hated that one, too. I then tried out seven different shades (sample size), and decided on Sandal SC-121. Long story short, Behr refunded the cost of two two gallons of Cape Cod Gray; I got the check today. (Home Depot refunded about three-quarters of my other outlay.) it was a very aggravating experience, but being reimbursed financially helped my attitude a lot. In future, I learned 1) that this particular type of paint darkens slightly over time, which the paint technician told me after the fact, and I did not know; and more importantly, get a sample size and test it! Pictures attached: 1) Shed after painting with ST-5533; 2) after partial painting with Cape Cod Grey SC-365; 3) with nine samples; and 4) almost completed with Sandal and Atlantic.

I've always trusted Behr water sealant for my deck, and I'm so glad I stuck with it when I had my pergola stained. I used the same Behr ST (semi transparent) Chocolate on my fence and other wood that looked so great I just had to have the same done for my pergola. Behr really helped transform my wood from old to nearly new! (I did a separate 5 star review re my fence)

Let me start by saying that I rarely leave reviews, typically only if a product is really good or really bad. I am so disappointed with this stain!! I stained our first deck a few years ago with this same stain and it was fine. I just built my home 5 years ago so it's been less than 5 years since the first deck was done. The color is "NaturalTone Cedar." I saved the can and took pictures of the finished product so I would buy the same color when we built our new decks, and now I wish I hadn't. I bought a 5 gallon bucket, plus two, 1-gallon containers, to stain our two new decks (so I can't attribute the awful color to it being mixed incorrectly, plus it was premixed anyway.) All 3 containers were visually the same color but I mixed it all together with a paint mixer for continuity. The first one is a 50x8 deck that is part of a wrap around, and the second part is about 28x12. The decks are 12 months old and were properly prepped for stain (it's not my first rodeo.) We have another that we are working on finishing, so I wanted to make sure we had enough stain for all of it. I can't express how awful this color is. It reminds me of circus peanuts. The worst part is, when the sun is shining, it emits a horrible orange glow all through my house. I am a single parent and my finances are tight. I spent $300 for this stain and it was a total waste of money. I really can't afford to remove this stain and then buy more to replace it. I was hoping once it weathered a little that the bright orange glow would go away, but it hasn't. It just looks awful. I feel like BEHR really should reimburse for this because no one in their right mind would want their decks, fences, etc., stained this color. Our home has typical tan/brown/clay colored vinyl siding and I included a photo you you can see the color between the siding and the deck without sunlight on it. The lighting really makes no difference. Please don't buy this unless you like the color of neon circus peanuts. I've included photos with this review (which really doesn't do the bright orange color any justice) so you can see that I'm not exaggerating. I had hoped that once it weathered a bit, the bright orange glow would go away, but it has not, it still looks like carrots. Very disappointing.

We had a very weathered yet solid wood fence that had been neglected several years before we purchased the place. The Behr solid stain was the perfect choice. It has excellent coverage, easy application. Highly recommend.

We prepped exactly as instructed and let completely dry. 4 days in and it is still tacky! Bought huge fans and have had them running on the deck and still will not dry. When my children walked on it to get across once, it showed footprints. What can we do?!? Also, it isn’t semi transparent but more solid with 2 thin coats.

Replaced half the wood on this bench with new red oak. The other boards were heavily weathered after about 15 years outside. After sanding and staining, you have to look closely to see which is which.

It did not last even one season in Wisconsin. Absorbs water and peels off. 2 coats after sanding, pressure washing... still not efficient exterior stain/sealer.

Love it. Went on great with sprayer and brush.

What you see on the brochure is totally different from what you get in real life. I expected a nice natural glossy color, instead I got an orange and not glossy color at all. Such a waste of money, now I have to repaknt everything because the color is so ugly. And not to mention the can indicates it cocerse approximately 300 Sq per can and that's totally false. This experience made me consider not referring this brand for my customers.

This product is so disappointing. It washes off, bubbles off and is not fit for Texas weather. It's a real let down to to the BEHR product range.

I wish I had looked at the reviews on this before buying. This stain is not transparent! It is ORANGE! My cedar fence is now a disaster..don’t know what I’ll do. And I have 61 more feet to go! I’m so unhappy with this, I will research other stains & most likely won’t be Behr product!

I was looking for more clear Color to keep the color our wood deck more natural. We found this beautiful color and great product. We stained the whole deck and The results were incredible!! everyone saw it loved it!

Got this for my neighbor's back deck and front steps. Looks beautiful! Nice product.

We researched the top brands of stains when we decided to stain our deck. At the time, Behr had the best reviews. We allowed our deck to age properly, pretreated with Behr products as recommended, and applied several coats to achieve an even finish. This project was VERY time intensive and costly with how many coats we applied. To our disappointment, the stain didn't even last one year! It has been a little more than 1.5 years now and the entire deck will need redone. Do not waste your time with this product.

Buyer be ware ... This stuff is ORANGE ... Inface HD ORANGE!!! I had used this product a few years ago and wanted to stain a new section of fence that was replaced. BEHR obviously changed the formula to this very Bright Orange instead of a more redish/light orange Cedar color. I let it dry for a few days to see if I could live with the color. In the sunlight it shows even brighter!!! Too much orange ... I will spray light oil-based top coat deck/fence stain to tone it down some. It is a good stain just not the bright orange color. Go back to the original formula!!!

This just did not last. Put it on 9 months ago. I live in new york, so it sees sun, rain, and snow. I power washed, waited 2 weeks, and sanded. The wood was prepped perfectly.

I built a covered hot tub deck and used this product to protect the wood. The wood was treated lumber, and was allowed to "age" for about 6 months prior to using this Behr product. Before applying the Behr stain, the deck was cleaned with a pressure washer and allowed to completely dry for a couple of days. This was applied in the summer of 2019. It is now March of 2021 and the deck looks absolutely horrible. I would expect a product made by Behr and costing as much as it does, to last longer than the cheap off brand name stuff. All of the vertical wood looks great, just the actual decking looks very ugly. This decking was purchased new and not re-used wood. I spent quite a bit of money on this hot tub gazebo, and expected Behr to last longer than 18 months. I cannot recommend this item, especially for the cost. Save your money, and purchase a different brand that is cheaper. Because you will STILL end up recovering within 2 years! This is pretty sad, because Behr is all I use around the house. The interior paint is great stuff. But this deck stain is no better than any other off brand name stain.

This color is beautiful and the stain was easy to apply, however I should have listened to the other reviews. I did everything I was supposed to: used the deck cleaner and brush, waited until the wood had been dry for a long stretch, low humidity, low wind, mild temps, no direct sunlight. Sadly, this is still coming off of my porch and it has only been on there for 7 months. I know it isn't from shoveling or salt as it is only in the areas we walk, not the entire surface. I have contacted Behr customer service to see if they will honor their warranty, but don't make my mistake! It isn't worth trying it for yourself, the reviews are right.

I bought this semi transparent Behr Redwood stain for our deck just a couple of days back. Used a professional painter to stain the deck. This color looked so different in the shade card at the store . Oh boy don’t be fooled it’s ORANGE! I Spent $$$ to get it stained and that BRIGHT ORANGE COLOR is shocking and shows very different from Shade card. One would thing redwood be more reddish brown, but this one looks tacky ORANGE! What did I sign up for? Very very disappointed in what it looks like . Our deck looks so tacky coz of it now , money in drain! Sooooo disappointed and not sure what to do with the ORANGE DECK.
