I have been using a pointed digging shovel for edging my flower beds and around my trees, and it has not been ideal. This flat edging spade is far better for the work and makes it far easier. It is heavy duty - the 12-gauge steel is thick and strong. The foot / step flanges on the back of the blade are the largest I think I have seen on a shovel. They give you a lot more power to push the blade in with your foot and make quick work of your digging / edging. Fiberglass handles are not my favorite, but the strength and shape of the blade on this spade make up for the fiberglass trade-off. As with all tools, the correct one makes the job easier. This is a good example of that.

I have a small terraced garden. Getting next to the boards is impossible with the standard shovel. This is just perfect for getting next to the boards and cultivating that dirt. It is flat bladed enough to conform to the boards and short handled enough to be able to maneuver when you are standing on the lower terrace. Best of all it is "American Made".

I ordered two Bully Tools spades and a long pointed shovel from Home Depot, and have to say that the packaging was over-the-top great! Not only were all three garden tools well boxed, but each was individually wrapped to protect the handles and blades. Not a scratch was to be found by having three heavy garden tools shipped on one box. I have never had the pleasure of owning or using a Bully Tools product before, and was not familiar with the name. I can say that I have wasted a lot of good money on cheap, foreign-made garden tools that break and don't last long doing real work. As soon as you pick up this 12-Guage Edging And Planting Spade With Fiberglass D-Grip Handle, you know that you have a real working tool in your hand! The welds on the blade are not the prettiest, but this spade was not intended to win a beauty pageant, it was made to work hard and still be around tomorrow to work again. The handle is nice and tight, and the D-Grip feels nice in your hand. This spade has a nice heavy feel to it too. Even if I someday manage to break the handle on this spade, it is of a quality that would warrant buying and installing a new handle on. And best of all, it is made in the USA! I love supporting American companies who employ my fellow citizens! You can bet the next time I need a garden tool, I will be looking for the Bully Tools name! Thanks Bully Tools, and Home Depot!

This garden spade is exceptionally well-made. The fiberglass handle has an easy-to-grip D-shape end made of very comfortable plastic, which is large enough for anyone's glove-covered hand. As you can see from the picture, the spade part is well-formed with very sharp edges and has a nice powder coating. This is a real value, and it will serve your garden needs extremely well. It is a tool you will not want to loan out! It is a real keeper you will want to pass on to other generations in you family. I highly recommend it!

I really like this spade, it has a great sharp edge and it's very sturdy. That said, I've noticed the handle is slightly wobbly as there was a tiny gap between the steel rod and the plastic sleeve. I didn't want to return just because of this as it is only a minor defect and it doesn't seem to affect the utility of the tool at all. Instead, I've managed to push a few pieces of very thin wood chips in the gap so it's not wobbly anymore.

Does a good job edging.

Nice shovel, but dimensions say 13"w by 7.5" long. Seems to be the opposite of that. am I wrong?

For a Fiberglass Tool this is way to heavy and the handle is too long. Not the quality advertised or expected for the name and price.

Made in USA. Very heavy duty. Extra think steel. Large step pad or pushing shovel into dirt. A great value for the money. Buy American when ever you can.

This was heavier than I expected, understanding full well it's made of 12-gauge steel. Performance is excellent. I've already used it to remove a couple hundred square feet of sod and to cut clean landscaping edges. It's not really intended for removing sod (a sod lifter is), but this was perfect for cutting it and then transplanting it to another area. The edge was sharp enough from the factory for my use. It could be honed further if necessary. This is a quality tool that will last for years. Absolutely no complaints. It's worth the price.

I have never seen a shovel as heavy duty as this one! The metal spade on my old shovel would buckle when I used it in hard dirt. This one has a beveled cutting edge and would be impossible to get the blade to bend. The price was almost the same than the lesser quality brands.

Easy to use no assembly required

Worked fine for pulling up sod.

Well built spade, it does the job and should last a long time.

this shovel has a fiberglass handle. I bought it thinking it would be lighter than my wooden handle one. wrong I returned it
