Fixed Finally!! Read for regulator fix/ repair
I bought the compressor a couple of years ago and very infrequently used it. Last year it stopped holding pressure. You could hear air leaking from the regulator and the pressure wouldn’t go past 50 psi. After a lot of tinkering I found the problem and the fix!! The faulty regulator is fixed now and it’s working perfectly again. The attached photos are for a different model compressor but the parts are the same. Remove all air from the tank and unplug before attempting fix. You have to unscrew (counterclockwise) the regulator knob. It’ll get stuck at a stop, keep unscrewing until it’s completely removed. Use pliers to pull out the plunger type thing. Then I used a Philips size 3 (large) screwdriver to gently unscrew the plastic valve and remove it from the metal manifold. That’s when I found a completely disintegrated and corroded to dust spring there. Replace that spring with any that fits (approx 6mm wide by 20mm long and really thin gauge wire 0.5mm). I used a spring from a 3D printer part. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just has to hold a certain valve part in place. And reassemble. Compressor works perfectly now!

    Faulty valve plate assembly
Valve plate assembly failed. It costed me $145 to replace. It was used very lightly.

      Soo quiet!!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I do a TON of interior remodeling and have always used a pancake-style compressor for most of the air tools. Not anymore. Currently we are working on finishing a basement and this thing is so quiet that we can actually talk over it while it’s running in a concrete basement!! It’s packed with cool features (2 outlets, clearly visible gauges, dust proof power switch, full roll cage and you can set it upright or horizontal), it’s crazy light and it fills up quick. We ran two framing guns on it without an issue! Everyone in the crew wants to buy these now!

        great compressor for trim work
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a professional trim carpenter. I've been using this compressor full time now for about two weeks. I like the design that allows the compressor to stand up or lay flat… it really helps as far as space savings goes when packing all my tools in my truck. the compressor isn't too heavy either, so it's not annoying having to get it out and carry it into different jobs. the compressor has two outlets for air hoses, one of which I put a splitter on. the compressor easily handled 3 guys working all day off of it for a week. it didn't run too often, and when it did, it was much quieter than 95% of the compressors out there. the air hose couplings it has are the nice ones that lock on to the air hose when you just push it in. it also has a well positioned carrying handle, easy to adjust pressure knob, and easy to read pressure gauges. overall, a very well built air compressor.

          Amazing!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So glad I upgraded to this air compressor! Very quiet and fills up quickly. And as usual with dewalt the quality and durability is always top notch!

I was looking for a small compressor capable of putting out more pressure than a standard pancake compressor. Also, since I often use a compressor in my garage and house, I wanted one that wasn't obnoxiously loud. The compressors I replaced with this unit included a standard pancake compressor that malfunctioned after minimal use and a large 30 gallon garage compressor that I no longer need the high volume of air it produced. Both of those compressors were uncomfortably noisy requiring hearing protection and a location no where near where I was working to be comfortable. This DeWalt is light making it easy to move around, yet supplies all the air I need for home projects. The reduced noise level is appreciated every time I use it. Please note that there are quieter compressors on the market, but this one delivers higher pressure than most of those ultra quiet models. Overall the compressor seems well built with the features I was looking for. I can't speak for long term reliability yet as the unit is new but I did purchase an extended warrantee just in case. The compressor fits well within Dewalt's mobile storage chest (see images - also purchased at Home Depot) along with hoses, heavy duty extension cord, accessories and crown stapler gun. At this point I am very satisfied.

            Failed!
I had this compressor for 18 months and it stopped working.I took it apart and found pump pulley is broken .Part is no longer available. It was a great tool when it works .Time for new air compressor, but not Dewalt.

              Faulty valve plate assembly
Compressor is great until the faulty valve plate fails prematurely. When it fails, you will not be able to build the required amount of pressure for use outside of filling balls. I have had the compressor for 2 years with very minimal use, less than 2 hours total. Will not get above 55psi. Disassembled to have two metal pieces fall out of the valve assembly. Don't gamble on the product and think you will get a good one. Do your research, you will see this is a widely reported problem.

I bought this to sit next to my new Tormach CNC milling machine, to drive the Fogbuster and Power Draw Bar. It works very well, provides plenty of air and is very quiet. Much quieter than the 30 gal oil-less Craftsman compressor that it replaced!

Surprisingly quiet and compact for it's capacity
I purchased this compressor to replace a smaller unit in my studio. I use the compressor to run a small pneumatic die grinder, as well as multiple airbrushes. I was concerned that it would be too loud in my studio, but it's about as quiet as the airbrush compressor that it replaced, and it fits nicely next to my workbench. I've also used it to run a brad gun during the remodeling of the studio, and it worked great! It is small and light enough that I will also probably end up using it in my wood and metal shop to replace the much larger shop compressor.

Small, Light, Great For Small Garage Projects
This is a well made product. It has a larger than average CFM rating and Max pressure rating so you are getting slightly more performance than most of the competition. I bought this compressor to sit on a shelf instead of take up floor space, inflate tires, run a nailer, occasionally run an impact wrench, and not disturb the neighbors. It does all of those things well. However, the unit seems slightly louder than expected in a confined garage. Overall a easily manageable and well built product.

                  Simply awesome!
I'm very impressed with this compressor. It is well made, runs quietly, and builds pressure fast. My first project was redoing the front of checkout counters at a liquor store...the compressor runs so quietly that I was able to do the work during business hours without disturbing customers.

Light-weight. Portable. Easy to use. Relatively quiet. More plastic as compared to prior DeWalt models.
With the ability to handle up to 2 air nailers at a time, this portable trim air compressor from DeWalt is an excellent choice for DIY and professionals. Heavy usage will result in the compressor coming on more often, but at only 37 lbs. portability is the trade off, as this air compressor is able to be carried up and down stairs and around the job site, wherever it’s needed, and can be stored on a shelf or under a workbench. Even though this trim air compressor is notably quieter than others I own or have owned, it still makes a level of noise that I’d consider warranting the use of hearing protection, especially when air is being purged from the tank after use. To mitigate the noise, I typically place the air compressor away from the work area, such as in another room if working in a home, and run a long air hose from the air compressor to my work. The tubular metal frame provides an ergonomic handle for transport while also protecting the motor cover and integrated cord wrap against damage from falling objects. It takes only about 2 minutes to achieve a tank pressure of 200 psi. The knob for regulated pressure extends out about 2-1/2 inches and turns easily right or left to increase or decrease regulated pressure. On this 2.5-gal air compressor, the motor cover and cord wrap are plastic as compared to metal on a 2-gal DeWalt air compressor I purchased a few years ago. Also, the location of the check valve on this model isn’t obvious, so I’m assuming it’s located under the motor cover. Oil free means less maintenance, but since there’s no filter to catch the condensation, I’m expecting the check valve will be short lived, so having easy access to it is ideal. I’ve owned several Dewalt trim compressors, which have performed trouble free, except for the check valves that fail due to the build-up of rust from condensation. Fortunately, the part is inexpensive and generally able to be replaced with basic hand tools. The waterproof toggle power switch is on the top or side, depending on the orientation of the compressor. Either way, shock absorbing rubber feet prevent the flooring from being scratched. The cord wrap with retention clip is a nice feature, but seems like an afterthought with the power cable having to wrap over the top of the air compressor to reach the cord wrap. Although I’d prefer less use of plastic and an accessible check valve, my overall impression is that this is a very nice trim air compressor.

compact and quiet, with a low power draw
2.5 gal. Portable Electric Heavy Duty 200 psi Quiet Trim Air Compressor An incredibly quiet, and extremely portable, heavy duty compressor. I have a number of compressors here on the ranch. Ranging from a 5-Horsepower 230-Volt 60-Gallon Vertical Compressor in the shop, and a 20 gallon and a 10 gallon portable compressor for use in the field. Dragging the two portable compressors around, and sizing them to a suitable generator when working in the field meant a pickup bed full of equipment. With this smaller compressor I can attach it to a small 1600W generator, and with its low 12A draw know it is not going to cause me any problems. My existing portable generators have a small drain bolt at the base to remove condensate, this has a simple ball valve that greatly simplifies the process. The compressor even comes with a quick connect valve built in, so you can immediately get up and running (after following the 15 minute breaking procedure). Oil free and maintenance free. This is a great little compressor that delivers a lot of air for its size.

Fatal flaw: No intake air filter.
Regulator and valve plate - the problem is dirt gets in and causes leaking. The regulator can be hacked at home by depressurizing, removing the stop pin on the regulator knob and cleaning and lubing the bore, and possibly honing with fine paper. Can't speak to the valve plate, but I'm guessing the same - it needs cleaning. It appears to me that TYPE1-4 parts are all compatible, so most parts are available online. Note also 10 yr rated tank life and inflated specs. My last Dewalt - junk.

Poor build quality and unacceptable repair period
Compressor is only two months old and barely used. It has stopped building pressure beyond about 55 PSI. The nearest authorized warranty repair center said it will take two months before they can complete the repair. Now it looks like I will be ordering parts and attempting the repair myself so we can finish installing my daughter's hardwood floor. I like the lightweight, quiet and easy to carry form of the compressor but hey, this simple machine should run for years, not two months.
                    by
Much lighter than my old compressor and about half the noise level. I like the shape, it stores more efficiently than the round pancake type units. Only issue is that if you want to pick it up and carry it in the horizontal position, such as to load on top of other items in your truck, there is no good grab handle towards the bottom/back.

                        Not for a professional roofer
This compressor was overmatched with a professional roofer. The weather was mild but the roofer was a pro and he caused this machine to shut down twice in a very short time. There is no reset button and the only option is to sit and wait until it cools itself off. It's quiet it's small and it's not very heavy but it's certainly not a commercial grade device. Plus there's nothing in the instruction manual that helps you to figure out what is going on when it's suddenly decides to stop working.

Probably overkill for handyman usage but...
I've bought bargain air compressors and didn't like the noise and length of time required to get to pressure. With that in mind while shopping for air compressors I was interested that this Dewalt was listed as quiet. It isn't whisper quiet but quiet enough it doesn't turn the garage into a loudspeaker. The compressing time is five minute or less.
