It does not appear to be an all purpose screw gun. It does not meet the stated purpose.

Great tool. I haven't gotten a chance to use it...
Great tool. I haven't gotten a chance to use it on anything but drywall so far but, it is 100% better than trying to set drywall screws with a ratchet driver. I tried to use a ratchet driver attachment that has a clutch in it but the drywall dust from driving the screws in the ceiling got into it and caused it to set the screws deeper or shallower - very unreliable. The Dewalt screw gun never failed. I did have some operator errors but, no problems that I could blame on Dewalt. I will say that screws and driver need to be at a good 90 degree angle to the drywall or the edge of the screw may end up high (operator error on my part). But, even with my operator errors, this screw gun made it almost fun compared to the other ways I tried to drive drywall screws.
UPS didn't deliver it to my house like they were told to but, that is not the fault of Home Depot or Dewalt. I called Home Depot when I didn't get it on time and they said that someone at my house told UPS to hold it and not deliver it to the house, and that I had said I wanted to pick it up at the UPS warehouse. Home Depot rep told them to deliver it and 3 days later I watched the UPS truck drive right past my house. Next time I will use ship to store option and avoid UPS.

Bought two of these, taking one back that has not been used yet. Although it's a sturdy product, well made, it just didn't do what I wanted. I am installing 2500 LF of Four Board Horse Fence, 1x6 Boards on 6x6 posts with 3" Deck Screws. Read the reviews and saw this was great for Decking...ended up buying a Mikita Impact Driver, works so much better!!! Went through #2 bits like a hot knife in butter and if you need to angle the screws at all, no joy!
My recommendation: I see this as purely a sheetrock or paneling tool ONLY.

Excellent
My last screw gun was a Craftsman. It was heavy duty, lower RPM, that did a great job on dry wall, but more important, decking. After constructing an entire home and extra large deck, the planking on a dock, and a lot of framing, it finally wore out -- more than 22 years after I bought it. This new DeWalt gun, weighs just a littel less, has an automatic depth setter and clutch, and a huge amount of torque. I just finished my first major trial with it -- framing out a room expansion. It worked great driving 3" screws through 2x4's. The only issue I had -- similar to the old screw gun, is the need to buy the best phillips head bits so as not to strip out the screws. Probably the best recommendation would be to get the square head bits and screws, and then no slippage.

Great Screw Gun
I ordered the scrugun after returning the Home Depot brand screw gun. This scrugun did everything well that the HD brand did not. The 2500 rpm is fast enough and work well for me on metal or wood studs. Great value for the price.

Very pleased with the performance
Installed composite decking on a 10' x 24' deck and the tool worked great. Would hate to try doing the job without this screw gun. Had plenty of power and the 2500 RPM was just the right speed for the job

ok
The unit is ok but cant quite keep its depth setting consistent. the depth setting seems to not be locked in well causing problems with accurate driving.
It works moderately well for drywall but failed miserably when i tried using it to drive hardibacker screws. ( inconsistent depth kills it the cheap plastic/composite nose piece kills it)
spend the extra $$ to upgrade to a better model or brand

DW257
This tool works well and does a good job. It is comfortable to handle and has the power to do the job easily. The only problem I had was when I got it out of the box, the nose piece depth adjustment was stuck and could not be turned by hand. Once this was overcome, it did the job I bought it for. I am satified and would buy it again.

Smooth operator!
This is a very nice gun to use! Adjustments are quick and easy and stay true for as long as you need them to! There is plenty of power and torque for driving even the longest deck screws home, FAST! Bit engagement it sensitive and locks in quickly to enable a straight drive without worrying as much about slipping off the screw head and creating an unsightly divot in your deck or drywall! The grip is very ergonomic which allow you to use it comfortably for a prolonged period of time and the larger belt hook is an added bonus to make your job easier!
