    Good for the money
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a good torque wrench for the money. The large lcd display is easy to see and read. The beep and vibration assure accuracy. The down falls I have found are 1)that it can be a bit confusing to set because it has different modes that I feel the insructions do not explain enough. 2) It only goes to 250 foot pounds. 3) It does not have angle torque abilities. So many torque procedures have angle in them nowadays and this torque wrench can't live up to that.

      Quality and Value Guaranteed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This 1/2” torque wrench worked very well. The setting are quite easy to setup. Press set, change your pounds or n/m and hit set again. That’s it. When the desired torque is reached a red light will show as a visual aid and also vibrates. You can also set a percentage to alert you when you are nearing the desired torque setting. The digital display will show the reached torque for a few seconds before changing back to the set torque. The case it comes with is very sturdy. The wrench itself is very stylish looking and very well built. The only downside I have is that when torquing something the display is usually not facing you. This is where you are depending on the beeps and vibration. If it was possible to have the display be able to turn that would definitely be an improvement. Overall the value and quality are spot on.

The torque wrench I've always wanted!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I finally got the torque wrench I've always wanted. I've had click type torque wrenches for years but have always wanted a digital torque wrench. The wrench comes with a protective blow mold case which typically gets thrown in the trash but for a tool like this, with a screen and buttons I know I'll be keeping it protected in my tool box within this case. The wrench is easy to use out of the box, using 3 AAA batteries. The torque settings are easy to set and there are memory settings to keep your most used torque settings handy. For the price, the wrench is very well built and feels very robust and durable. I can't wait to use this wrench for some of my larger jobs with it's max torque of 250 ft. lbs. The torque settings are notified with a very audible beeping noise as well as a notification given on the screen of the torque which was reached. So far I love this wrench!!!

          Really nice torque wrench
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] this is a really nice torque wrench on the market for the price. I would recommend this to any professional that needs a new digital torque wrench. the beeps and vibrations are spot on and if you work in a noisy shop you will have no issue hearing the beeps with headphones in. the build quality is excellent and the grip is very comfortable.

            Works great, lots of functions
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Since torque wrenches are pretty straight forward tools, this review comes down to the functionality of the display. While you can watch the torque applied count up in the display, not every situation will allow you to easily observe the display ( ie. torquing lugs). In this situation you can set warnings for how close you are to set torque, to avoid over torquing. Beeps and buzzer are easily heard when set torque is reached.

Great upgrade from a standard torque wrench. The digital controls make it much easier to set the desired torque values and there's no need to reset it back to the minimum setting for storage. The wrench beeps as you approach the desired value and vibrates once you reach it. The target torque alert (as they call it) can be changed - default is 10% but can raise or lower it as you see fit. One of it's cool features is that the readout shows the maximum torque that was applied. Great thing about this wrench is that the working range starts down at 25 ft/lbs, which is lower than the 50 ft/lb that other 1/2" torque wrenches start at. This eliminates the need to swap to a smaller 3/8" torque wrench if you've gotta go that low. Size and weight are somewhat comparable to a standard torque wrench - the end of the handle is fatter and longer in order to accommodate the electronics and batteries (takes two AA). Clockwise torque has a claimed tolerance of ~2% which is pretty good.

The GearWrench electronic torque wrench is a very well made, accurate torque wrench which can be used to torque fasteners that tighten in both the clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. At a little over 25 inches in length, it has enough leverage to torque up to 250 ft lbs. The ratcheting mechanism is tight with a high tooth count (for a torque wrench) of 72, and is also very smooth with low back drag. The ergonomics are also fantastic. The grip conforms flawlessly and comfortably to your hand(s). The display is clear, though I do not believe it’s lighted, which could be a real pain in certain situations. The buttons and the materials in general all feel high quality. The only reason I’ve taken away one star is based on overall value. It’s not what this torque wrench does that’s an issue. Everything it does, it does great. It’s what it doesn’t do: The digital readout doesn’t light up, as mentioned. It does not measure angle (when a torque setting requires you to, for example, do a quarter turn after reaching max torque. It has a single light indicator for approaching and reaching max torque that always flashes red and beeps a similar sound, which may lead you to think you’ve reached max torque when you haven’t. Having different color lights for approaching and reaching torque would be helpful, along with a bit more of a distinguished beep for each. Taking those features away, you’re left with a digital version of a click type torque wrench. At this price point, it’s hard to justify this wrench over a CDI or Precision Instruments click style torque wrench. And if I want to go the digital route, I’d rather pay more for the angle measurement feature. Regardless, it still does a good enough job of telling you when you’ve reached the desired torque, and as mentioned, it feels high quality and is extremely comfortable in the hand. As it is, it’s a good value. With the angle measurement, it would be a home run. As far as warranties go, it comes with a one year warranty and a calibration guarantee of 90 days. Some wrenches out there will have longer warranties against breakage and defects, even lifetime, and some will cover calibration up to a year. So as far as warranties go, it’s about average.

Nice torque wrench. Easy to turn on and set the torque setting, even with gloves on. It has visual (see video), audible, and tactile (it vibrates) alerts when your desired torque is reached. Comes in a nice case to protect it. The switch that all ratchets have to tighten or loosen is backwards from other ratchets I've used, but that's not a big deal since I will only be using this to tighten, so it will always be on the correct setting.

The GearWrench 1/2 in. Drive Electronic Torque Wrench is a tool that is in the must have category. It has a digital display that I must say is a little small for someone like me. And it can be set to metric or American settings (25 ft./lbs. to 250 ft./lbs.). On a good note for someone like me that is a little sight impaired. When you reach the desired torque setting. The handle vibrates. A buzzer sounds. And a red LED light comes on. Great feature here. The set up is very simple with the easy to read instructions. Great investment.

The Gearwrench 1/2 in. Drive Electronic Torque Wrench is a quality made tool. The 72 tooth ratchet is excellent and the size of the handle allows you easier leverage when reaching the upper end of the tool’s torque limit. The fact that the torque wrench can go from 25 ft lbs to 250 ft lbs is nice as my other wrench doesn’t go that high. The fact that the setting can be changed on the display keeps me from making mistakes on my math with a single setting tool that only displays ft lbs. The tool gives warns as you are approaching the setting and there audible and vibration of the handle are additional nice features. The case is also nice quality. My only issue is a small one but I understand why it is designed this way. You have to hold the power button for a few second 3-4 to start the display. I believe that was so it doesn’t accidently go on and drain the battery. This does power down when not in use so that is a great feature in case you accidently left it one. Overall a very high quality tool.

This is a really nice tool that I like a lot. They have done a good job of thinking of most of the things you would want out of a torque wrench and incorporating them into this tool. The buttons and operation is mostly straight forward and intuitive. The ratchet end is fairly fine tooth so you don't have to swing the wrench a lot to get to the next click. The handle is a good size and easy to grasp it is nicely tapered and textured. When you get to the desired torque the tool will beep and vibrate and light an LED. It also alerts you by beeping and flashing the LED faster and faster as you get close to your desired torque. You can adjust the percentage of the torque setting where this happens. You can set the tool to retain the max torque you put on the fastener (Peak Mode), in that mode it also displays the actual torque up to that point. Or you can set it to show you what the torque is that you are applying (Tracking Mode) even if you let off it will give you real time readings. It has 5 settings for measurement units NM, Ft-Lb, In-Lb, Kgf-M, Kgf-Cm, so no looking at chart or running a calculator to convert the measurements. The wrench itself is about 24 inches long. The Screen about 1 1/2" long and 3/4" tall and is fairly easy to read. It requires 2 AA batteries and it does Not include them. The case is nice and decently built. It has a 1 year warranty. They also state that you can send it in for calibration when needed. It does also say to keep it out of liquids. All in all a really nice tool.

Electronic Torque Wrench? You bet! You still supply the horsepower, the wrench let's you know when you're done. The ½” wrench is great. It’s got a bunch of features that makes life easier, like being able to switch units of measure with a press of the button. This is handy when dealing with ft.lb to newton meter conversions... no need to convert , just push the button. Setting the desired torque value is simple too. While applying torque the bolt the wrench will start beeping when you get close to the torque you want. My only gripe is all the beeping when pressing buttons or adjusting to desired torque.

The GearWrench 1/2 in. Drive Electronic Torque Wrench 25 ft./lbs. to 250 ft./lbs. (30-340 Nm) is well built and has the setting readings I need and use the most (ft/lbs & in/lbs.). I really like feeling, hearing and seeing the alerts as I approach and reach my torque set points. Torque accuracy is consistent and electronic controls work well. The 72 tooth ratchet head allows for easier control in tight swing conditions. Handle and grip ergonomics are good and the carry case fits and protects the torque wrench well!

This tool is a huge upgrade from my torque wrenches from last century. Not only does this GearWrench 85077 tool incorporate the more accurate digital technology but it is also much easier on the hands and body with its extended length. The three notifications of hitting your torque setting (buzzer, LED light, and handle vibration) is a nice feature. There is also a setting to begin a beeping alert based on the percentage of the torque value – within 5% to 50% of the torque setting (target of 100ft-lb an alert at 10% = beeping at 90ft-lb). It is very quick to switch among the 5 torque unit measurements which are convenient if working on cars/equipment that have torque values in ft-lb, in-lb, Nm, kgf-m, or kgf-cm. On the negatives of this tool – the on button must be held for 3 seconds before it turns on; adjusting the torque setting is slow with increments of 0.1ft-lb even though holding down the button will rapidly increase/decrease the value, it still takes time to get to the desired setting. Neither of the negatives are large concerns but more of a need to “get use to the tool”. Overall, this is an everyday torque wrench made from quality materials which should result in a long tool life.

A must have tool for getting your wheel lug nuts to their proper setting. Easy dual feedback. See attached video for a live 1 minute demonstration. This is a nice wrench for higher torque settings, like wheel lug nuts. It only goes down to 25 ft/lbs, so even though you can set it for in/lbs, it really isn't for fine low torque applications. The settings are pretty self explanatory. I only took a 1 minute read of the instructions and I was up and running. Setting the torque is the usual setting, and requires pushing an "up down" button multiple times, or holding it. It could be a little more graceful, but overall it works. There is also the ability to set the "warning indicator" lead time. It comes at 10% which is fine. What happens is when you are within 10% of the torque, it starts beeping as a warning. Then, when it reaches the torque, it goes to a solid tone, AND more importantly you get a vibration feedback. One reviewer here said the warning came too early. Well, that warning can be set to a much lower value if you want to. This setting is not mentioned in the description of the tool, which is a shame, because maybe not everyone wants the alert to start at this time. Other nice things: 2 AA batteries, which are widely available. Batteries go in a dust and oil protected compartment at the end of the tool. It also has a very nice plastic case. Not so nice is that the batteries are not included. GearWrench is a relatively new brand to me. I've recently used a few of their tools and they are very nice for mid-range price and usage. The tool is made in China, but seems to be of very good quality.

Sturdy construction; the tool feels substantial and is well machined. Quick learning curve. Easy to adjust. Accepts multiple English and Metric units (i.e. N-m, ft-lb, in-lb, kgf-m, kgf-cm). Shows real-time readings and, when the pre-set torque is reached, the handle vibrates, the tool beeps, and a light appears. Requires two AA batteries (not included). Requires recalibration after months of use- at additional expense. Nice hard-side storage case.

This is an electronic GearWrench torque wrench. l like that the target torque can be set so that when I get close to the target torque, the handle beeps and then vibrates when I pass the target torque. This setup is very useful because on my old beam type torque wrench I can only see the torque one one side. But with this electronic style torque wrench, I don't need to see the numeric display. I can just hear and feel the target torque setting. I also like that is uses AA batteries. Just a note of caution: I accidentally put my hand to far out on the end and popped the battery cover off a thread or two. Luckily, I was able to unscrew the battery cover and screw it back on properly. No damage was done, but you will want to keep your hand on the GearWrench logo and not on the black battery cover.

I prefer click-style adjustable torque wrenches to torque-measuring wrenches. It’s been my experience that it’s much easier to tighten/loosen to a specific torque value with click-style wrenches. That said, I’ve found that this GearWrench 3/8 in. drive electronic one is a pretty decent economy torque-measuring wrench. I've found it to be useful after some practice using it. The wrench came in a plastic storage case with some basic instructions on the modes of operation and a certificate of calibration. The operational settings are easy to select and modify using the buttons near the LCD display. I set the desired torque and then the wrench uses an LED and beeping to indicate when target has been reached or exceeded. The wrench can be set to either “peak reading” mode or “tracking” mode. In the peak reading mode, the display shows the maximum torque applied within the preceding 15 seconds. In the tracking mode, the display shows the real-time torque value. I’ve used the tracking mode to identify the torque required to loosen tightened fasteners such as the oil pan drain plug after an oil change at the garage. (They almost always over-tighten beyond the spec torque.) The certificate of calibration is for torque readings in the range 20 to 60 Nm. In that range, readings were well within the permissible variation of 2% from the true values. The certification test was apparently performed at the factory in China, but the test purportedly conformed to American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) performance and safety requirements for manually operated torque instruments. The certification is not traceable to National Institute of Standards and Testing (NIST) standards. The wrench seems durable. The rubber handle is easy to grip and the metal parts have a nice chrome finish with the exception of the 3/8" square drive. The wrench requires two AA batteries, which were not included with my wrench.

Easy peasy torque wrench. I love not having to worry about un-tensioning the wrench after every use. Easy to set desired setting. The display gives you a reading as you apply force. There is an alarm when you get close. The handle vibrates when you are done. Pretty hard to mess up. The percentage is how far ahead you want the alarm to go off before hitting the limit. ACCURATE; SOLID; EASY-TO-USE — A torque wrench is an essential tool for someone who does mechanical work. The GearWrench 3/8 in. Drive 7.4 ft./lbs. to 99.6 ft./lbs. Electronic Torque Wrench is an excellent choice for meeting this need. The torque wrench has a solid feel. It fit my hand well. It is easy to set the torque and the torque alert allowance. The torque cannot be set exactly but very close, e.g., 19.99 instead of 20. It has five units of measurement. The selected one appears on the display but with rather small characters. It would have been helpful if it were somewhat larger making it easier to read. The feature that I found most useful when tightening an oil drain plug was that the tool beeps when you are getting close to the set torque. It buzzes, a red led flashes, and it has a slight vibration in the handle when the set torque is reached. This feature was useful because from the positioning of the wrench, I could not see the display. I also liked the feature that the final torque applied appears for 15 seconds in the LED display. That way I knew the exact torque that was applied. The ratcheting mechanism is as smooth as any that I have used. The wrench comes with a certificate of calibration but the calibration is warranted for only 90 days. Changing the batteries is easy. The instructions are clear. It comes with a well-designed case but based upon past experience the lower quality latches are not likely to last. It is made in Taiwan. It has a one year warranty.

The Gear Wrench 3/8 inch torque wrench comes in a nice case with padding, Inside the case are printed conversions between the 5 different units. The torque wrench has a big handle with a rubber grip. The rubber isn't the most durable and can easily scuff so depending on how hard you are on your tools it might look rough. The body is hard plastic which feels solid but for the price it would have been nice to see a metal body. There is an anti roll bar which keeps it from rolling off a table or other surface. Adjusting the settings is a breeze with simple controls. You can adjust the target torque alert which will pulse a red led as you get closer to the set torque. This range can be adjusted pretty easily. When you reach the set torque it will make a reasonably loud noise vibrate and light up which is nice if your working in a busy shop and can't hear it or can't feel it. You can also adjust the unit of measurement between newton meters,foot-pounds,kilogram-force meter, kilogram-force centimeter. Adjusting the torch spec is a little annoying as the beeper goes off every time the torque spec is raised. When adjusting the set torque you can get really precise you can adjust the set torque by as little as .07 ft pounds. A backlit display would be helpful for not so bright work areas At the end of the day the torque wrench gets the job done well and quickly. If you can justify the price over a clicker wrench I would highly recommend you add it to the collection.

This is not my first torque wrench, but it is my first electronic torque wrench. I use torque wrenches to put on the lawn mower blade after sharpening or when working on the snowblower. This tool is simple to use. The torque and torque alert % are easy to set and the multiple alerts let me know when I’m approaching the set target. Once I get close to the target the red LED starts blinking, the handle intermittently vibrates and starts beeping. Once the target is reached, the red LED becomes solid, and the handle has a steady vibration and beep. The first time I used this I was thinking, wow! I’m surprised it doesn’t shoot off fireworks too. The handle is comfortable and the tool includes case (with a handy conversion table molded into the cover), certificate of calibration, and instructions. 2AA batteries required are not included. This wrench can be set to 0.1 ft-lb increments from 7.4-99.6 ft-lb, although best accuracy is between 20%-100% (20 ft-lb to 100 ft-lb). It’s calibrated to be accurate to +/- 2% clockwise and +/-3% counter clockwise from 20%-100%. The wrench can also be set to Nm, in-lb, kgf-m, and kgf-cm. I want to mention this model does not have the angle feature like some of the GearWrench models, so there’s no torque to yield setting to set the angle measurement. This doesn’t impact me since I’m not working on cylinder heads or engine blocks, but it may be important to some. Another nice GearWrench product!

Model 85076 (Made in Taiwan - Batteries not included). Hefty, well made, and with a few quirks. The unit is just under 16 inches long and weighs 2lbs, and comes in a sturdy storage case. The rubberized handle is fairly thick, but comfortable. The LCD display is functional although hard to read, especially the “units” indicator, which reads either “N.m, lbf.ft, lbf.in, kgf.m, kgf.cm”. The display has no backlight and the screen cover is shiny and generates a lot of glare. The six buttons are easy to read and operate but setting torque takes some practice. It takes three seconds to turn power on or off (though auto shutoff works in 90 seconds). To set the target torque, first select the unit of measurement, then press “set” and use the up/down arrows to set desired torque. At first the desired torque changes slowly by the smallest increment but holding down the arrow shifts to high-speed mode where the reading increase/decreases in larger increments. When the desired target torque is reached, press “set” again to save it. It gets confusing when you hold the arrows down because the torque setting “rolls over”, going from the top of its range to the lowest (or vice versa) in a single jump. You quickly learn to push/let go/push/let go to “dial in” the setting. A further problem involves the setting increment. In the metric units, the setting increment is always the smallest digit displayed. For example if the unit is kgf.cm, the display might show 6.00 and each tap of the arrow changes the display by 0.01. DESPITE what the package says, the increment is different in SAE units (lbf.in, lbf.ft). In “lbf.ft” the increment is 0.07 or 0.08, and in “lbf.in” the increment is 0.9. As a result you can't set a “whole number” target torque, like 105.0 lbf.in. You set either 104.4 or 105.3. After setting target torque you set a “warning” value as a percentage of target torque, from 5% to 50%. As an example, for a target torque of 500 kgf.cm, you could set a percentage of 10% and the device will 'warn' when the actual torque reaches 450 as you are tightening. As you approach the target torque the unit combines beeping, a red LED and internal vibration to signal nearing and reaching the desired torque. That's very effective and reasonably accurate, and allows me to move faster than with the standard “click once” indication of a mechanical torque wrench. The unit is fairly accurate (2-3%) and comes with a Certificate of Calibration, which is nice but it's only good for 3 months – and mine was dated 4 months before I got the unit. The instructions identify where to ship the unit for recalibration. While I usually enjoy electronic digital controls in this case I thinks it's awkward, especially for the added price. While I like the warning indicators as I approach the target torque, I wouldn't recommend this unit just for that.

I wanted a torque wrench poor working in my garage. I like the fact that this gearwrench is an electronic torque wrench. This allows me to more accurately track my measurements digitally and I really like that it gives me alerts so that I do not over torque 8 Ball. It is nice size and weight with a nice long handle with a comfortable grip. It seems very well-constructed and I feel it will last me for a very long time. My only minor complaint is that it did not come with batteries at this price point but I am very pleased with this tool.

Nice upgrade, I have a manual / needle torque wrench, that works well, but it is hard to read and you have to be facing it to get an exact reading. This electronic display allows you to get an exact torque and can also be set to reach a certain target torque. The tolerance alert is nice for not over-torqueing. It feels very well made. I like the length and the rubberized handle for easy tightening. Nice tool.
