It was time to replace all of our smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors and decided to go with an all in one product. They were easy to install and configure to my smartphone. I like that they each have a name so if issues occur, I know which area to head to first. At any time from my smartphone I can configure additional options as needed. The nightlight feature works great!

This is my 2nd Nest product, after the thermostat. I am satisfied with the product, if not thrilled with the price. Pay attention and the setup is reasonably precise and the alarms will self connect to your phone (or laptop, phone is better) and each other. Have everything laid out in advance, as the YouTube videos recommend and you will be fine on setup and install. I like that it differentiates between carbon monoxide and fire/smoke alarms with separate and distinct alarms. One detection will trigger both alarms and my phone. Very 21st century.

BEWARE of purchasing from third party retailer!
BEWARE of purchasing from third party retailer! The Nest Protect smoke alarm has a limited life span. These units can sit on a shelf for OVER a year diminishing the time the units will operate. They COMPLETELY stop working after the expiration date printed on back of physical alarm! There is no date printed on the box to indicate prior to purchasing. Nest will NOT replace and is extremely unhelpful.
I recently purchased two units that were both OVER a year old, could not exchange them due to retailer out of stock and Nest refused to replace them. My Nest Protect will not work as long as expected or advertised. Just beware of buying from third party retailer!!!

We have nest protects in our own home as well as rental properties. The app is easy to use and can combine multiple properties in the app. The alarms do not trip false alarms as we have experienced with other brands. Worth the price.

Easy to set up, love the motion sensor night light. Works well- detected smoke in kitchen when I burnt some toast. You can turn it off right from phone.

Great device, but I understand it automatically shuts off 10 years from date of manufacture. So, receiving a device 2 years old, which I did, means it will shut off in 8 years. And you don’t know it’s age until you open it. Makes you feel a bit cheated.

DO NOT BUY!!!!!!
I have two of these installed in my house and left a pot on the stove. They went off but never alerted my phone that anything was wrong until after I had gotten home to a smoke filled house and the fire department had come and gone there was finally a message but not an alert that the smoke was clearing. It could have saved me a lot of smoke damage in my house if it had alerted me when the alarms went off and customer service gave me the biggest run around about why I wasn't alerted !!!!

My Nest Protect smoke detector/CO2 monitor is just great! Everything was very easy, from installing on my wall to syncing it with my phone. Testing it was easy also. Every night I can tell it's working.

I replaced our Kidde whole house system, which constantly gave false warnings, with the Nest protectors. They were very easy to install in the existing boxes and wiring configuration. So far, no false alarms. Of additional value is the app to control each alarm so it is no longer necessary to climb a 20' ladder to turn off or maintain high mounted alarms.

Easy to install and configure. Highly recommend. After shockingly discovering none of our smoke detectors were working (they were tied to a security system that had been shut down), I invested to bring our home up to current code in our community, which is one detector inside each bedroom, one outside each bedroom in the hallway, one living rooms/common areas, and one in utility rooms. I bought 11 total. Easy to install and now I have total peace of mind after my scare. I can see all 11 working in the app, they test with each other. I trust Google/Nest to deliver.

New Policy?
We went to buy one of these at our local HD - they said the price is $149.00. not the listed $119. They would not honor the web site price of $119.00. They said we could order online while in the store and we would pay $119 -What? Or we could order from home and drive back and pay $119 what again? We ordered online from another place with next day delivery for $119. HD are you listening? This is not the way to change customer behavior - this is how you lose customers.

Beware batteries, keep dying
I have always had the Nest/Google products fire alarm. I had some old ones going back to seven years that the batteries kept dying in them every two months you have to change the batteries they got to be expensive I could not get help from Customer Service. All my settings were right night light off everything to help save battery life, I continue to replace the batteries to finally. I got fed up and replace to new ones. Same issue. I finally googled the problem and there are so many people going through the same issue with the product. Buyer beware there are now other products out there like the X fire alarms that are Wi-Fi and do the same thing. I finally gave up and purchased them.

We have Google Nest Protect detectors throughout our home and love them. Very easy to set up. Only issue is that the mount for the battery operated detectors does not fit on an electrical box where my old detectors were wired. I was able to purchase new mounts on Etsy that worked perfectly.

We like that it is smoke & CO combo, does monthly checks automatically, & has a nightlight .
We just installed one upstairs & one downstairs about 10 days ago when we had to replace previous alarms that we’d had for 10 yrs.

Worst Pick up Experince
Worst experience in waiting for my pick up. I’ll pick up locations for parking were fulll shopping cart cannot find a spot to parking after moving cars around to get parking spot waited over 15 minutes just for them to bring it out to me. I was yhe only person waiting too, it wasnt like they had several orders being completed

With the exception of Nest being purchased by Google, this would be a five star product. Of course the system will not allow me to give the proper rating of zero stars due to Google purchasing Nest. The device has the same features as implemented by Nest before the internet pirate purchase Nest, so no improvement at all since purchased by Google, except the requirement to be spied upon by Google due to the requirement to have a Google account.

Burns Through Batteries
Honestly not worth the money. Requires 6 AA batteries that burn out every three months.

Hi there, Andy. We appreciate your feedback on Nest Protect (battery). We're sorry to hear about your issue with its battery life. The device requires Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries. We don’t recommend using rechargeable or alkaline batteries. If you do, they will quickly drain and will need to be replaced soon after installing them. Using other types of batteries than the ones recommended by Nest will be detrimental to the smoke and CO alarm operation. Don’t mix and match batteries, and don’t place new batteries in with old batteries.

Excellent protection for the home. It is the only smoke and carbon monoxide detector that allows phone silencing and internet notifications. My tall ceilings make that very important when I burn the bacon.
