I use it for spraying treatments around the outside area of the home and it does great for small projects. The pump latch moves a little too much but just remember to get locked in place tight. The pressure release works great and it cleans up easily. Would definitely recommend.

my wife brought me one of this pump sprayer that I needed for some ant problem I had and honestly is very good and the price of this even more. got it assemble like in 2 minutes. for the past week I have use this and no leak problem or any other issues. make sure to install it correctly to avoid leak problem.

Sprayer works great but the pump handle digs into my skin. Fix #1: keep sprayer handle in top when spraying. Fix #2: Use a short piece of 3/4 PVC pipe in pump handle. Fix #3: (My Favorite) drill hole near top and add in a tire valve-No Pumping!

using to mist houseplant foliage. the fine mist that this nozzle generates is much better than other commonly available plant misters that i have used. ive seen these for sale online for double or triple what i paid for this at the home depot.

the yellow pressure release valve broke on me the first time I tried to release pressure and now is inoperable and won't release pressure.

I bought this to replace my one gallon sprayer after many years of use. After few months and few usages, the plastic-nail holders of the pump broke (see picture). Not very happy with the product, but VERY HAPPY with Home Depot return Policy. Well, you get what you pay for, so I decided to buy something better and I bought a DEWALT 2 Gallons made in America sprayer, and very very happy with the quality of the product, the package and the performance.

The HDX 4 Gal. Backpack Sprayer is the absolute must-have sprayer for large yards! Our handheld could not do the trick with the amount of fluid we needed to cover our land (and it was a huge pain to haul around carrying the weight of it!) The backpack sprayer even fits comfortably on my (female) back/frame so it isnt too cumbersome for me to use myself! It is very easy to assemble with great instructions and we'll now have a weed-free yard simply because the spraying is so much easier (and consistent!)

I selected this backpack sprayer because I was tired of making multiple trips to mix chemicals for spraying my trees and lawn. I have a big problem with creeping Charlie this year and I just couldn’t get it all without filling a small handheld sprayer 3 times. I assembled the sprayer and noted the handle doesn’t lock it. A spring detent would be best for the handle as it came out while pumping a couple times. As for capacity, I was able to mix up 4 gallons of weed B gone and get my whole 1/2 acre lot sprayed in one shot. The wide spray pattern is nice for coverage and the tip is able to be rotated for fine or mist coverage. I didn’t fully test how far it would spray a fine stream but I had it going about 15 feet horizontally. The unit is actually comfortable to wear even when full and the straps don’t dig into my body even though I’m a bigger guy.

The HDX 4 gal. backpack sprayer is the newest addition to my home and yard maintenance equipment. This sprayer can be used with many products including weed killers, fertilizers, disinfectants, and mold/mildew removers on brick, siding or lawn furniture. However, bleach products ARE NOT to be used with this sprayer. This sprayer utilizes a piston pump rather than a battery pack (that would add to the weight). This sprayer is easily cleaned and following specific products uses. The padded straps make for easy carrying when using a step ladder to get closer to mildew on vinyl. The spray is adjustable to mist or spray. I appreciate if desired, you are able to mix only 1 gallon of a concentrate item, this sprayer can handle it as it is clearly marked with fill lines. I highly recommend this product.

Ordered the 4 gallon backpack sprayer to apply control for ants and application of weed killer to the landscape. The unit comes well packaged and ready for use. I like the large (4 gallon) tank to cover a large area without frequent refilling. The large capacity tank also works well with less volume, like if you want to only spray only one gallon, since it is ergonomically designed with padded straps over your shoulders to distribute the weight and a waste strap to keep the unit in place while pumping the plunger. The piston pump adds pressure to the tank with minimal effort while you spray and looks to be well designed for maintainability. About 16 strokes dispensed most of one gallon of product. The spray nozzle is easily adjustable from spray to stream by twisting the nozzle. The trigger can be locked in the “on” position to reduce fatigue while operating the spray wand. The hose and wand are of adequate lengths so you don’t have to stoop down to spray the ground. The design allows you to place the pump handle on either side of the unit and operate the spray wand with the opposite hand which is a nice feature for lefties or to just to change hands. The large fill opening with a filtering feature is also a good feature. Note that it is not for recommended for use with bleach so this is not the unit to spray surfaces with bleach. It would also be nice if the tank had been stamped with volume graduations on the outside to aid in the mixing of various liquids in the tank, but you can easily mark one gallon or quart lines with a sharpie on the outside of the tank if you want. Absolutely recommended for household use for these purposes.

We have several acres up in the foothills at our country house. With this being said one can figure we have a lot of grass and weeds growing. We usually spray the weeds especially along the fence line, driveway and base of the house towards the end of spring/begining of summer and remove them so to lessen the fuel for fires. Then we respray as needed. Theses are all areas where it is impossible to get a mower too. We had our old backpack sprayer that served us well for at least the last 10 years. Sadly it got cracked so it was time to say goodbye. We chose the 4 gallon backpack sprayer by HDX. The reason for this is we wanted something larger than what we had so we would not have to refill it as much during one use. When it arrived I was pleased to see that it was really easy to put together as it was just 3 pieces. The pump handle was a bit confusing to install as it looks like it can go on either side. According to the picture on the instruction sheet it goes on the left side. Also you do need to tap it on with something like a rubber mallet as it is a very snug fit. It was a bit bigger than I expected but that was on me. The straps are very comfortable and seem well made. My only complaint is how they attach at the bottom. It is little open ended clips that seem like they may loosen after time and not stay as you take it off or slide around during use. Time will tell however. I did not realize when we chose this one that it had different spray modes which can be done with a simple adjustment depending on if you want a spray or mist. Also if like us you have a large area to spray you can lock it in the spray position so you don’t have to keep squeezing the trigger. Overall this seems well made and we are very happy with it as it seems like we will get many years of use out of it.

I have gradually become somewhat of a ground’s keeper for our neighborhood association when it comes to small trimming of shrubs and trees, and weed control. I had an HDX gallon sprayer that I carried around with me that contained a "kill all" product in it. This became cumbersome and I was frequently setting the container down to pump up the pressure. This HDX 4-gallon backpack sprayer solved that problem for me. I really like the filter in the lid to keep debris out of the container as well as the large mouth for filling. Plus, the filter is removable so it can be washed when necessary. The pump handle, able to go on either side for left or right handers, allows me to pump the pressure in without taking the backpack off. The waist strap keeps the sprayer from bouncing on my back as I am walking. The adjustable nozzle from stream to mist was a must for me. I really like the locking trigger. While that was a simple change, it is really helpful. I can now put my "kill all" product in the backpack sprayer, and my "kill the weeds but not the grass" product in my one-gallon sprayer.

Nice 4 gallon backpack sprayer to get the job done! Can be used with various products, but I just used a bug barrier solution. Essentially no assembly with just attaching the handle on either the let or the right side. The sprayer nozzle is adjustable. The straps are decently padded and comfortable. They seem durable enough to withstand the test of time. A nice feature is that the sprayer has lock-on flow control to keep your hand from cramping from constantly squeezing the trigger.

This backpack sprayer is efficient and convenient. I like that the capacity is 4 gallons, allowing me to spray my entire driveway on one tank. The hand pump works great (especially compared to traditional pump sprayers). It is adaptable to work with right or left-handed operators, which is nice. The only drawback was that when the tank is full, it is has a pretty high center of gravity, which can make it slightly awkward and uncomfortable until you get used to it.

The HDX 4 Gallon backpack sprayer is an excellent piece of equipment that has made weedkilling so much easier, this sprayer can be used with insecticide so its going to make things go a lot quicker Before this item, I would have to carry a pump bottle by hand (HDX 1 Gal) that not only limited the amount I could carry but took longer to get the job done around my acreage -it was a chore. This pump holds 4 gallons and has a lever based pump that that lets you charge it on the go with ease. It can be attached on either side to accommodate your dominant hand. The sprayer itself, has 3 different settings from a mist effect, to a jet. The straps are comfy enough although at times they have come undone while I adjusted myself. No complaints with how it feels to carry though. Highly recommended.

This sprayer has grown on me as I've used it. It really works well. The HDX comes ready to use out of the box. Install the handle and away you go. Having used regular 1 gal & 3 gal hand sprayers, I wanted to give the backpack sprayer a try. I'm giving it 4 stars. I've discovered you need to sling this on carefully or you will get your back soaked with spray solution. Once I used my truck tailgate to slip into the harness, it was okay. The clip on the harness can come unclipped when putting the sprayer on. The handle also wiggled off the hex bar a couple of times. Not a big deal and easy to reattach. The nozzle tip could be easier to adjust. First time it took needle nose pliers and regular pliers to get the nozzle adjusted. Seemed to get easier with use. The backpack sprayer dispenses its spray much faster than my 1 gal HDX sprayer. I'm hoping this means my weeds die quicker! I went through 5 gals of solution vs 3 gals with the 1 gal sprayer. The backpack was easy to carry on my back and I was able to comfortably walk my 5 acres with out any problems. The straps were comfortable to wear on your shoulders. Pros: Ready to Use Comfortable Straps Sprays good Cons: The Lid could use a better seal when tilted to put on back. The clips on bottom of harness can come loose Nozzle Tip can be difficult I'm nitpicking this sprayer. Like I said at the beginning, I really am liking it more as I use it more.

Seems to be made of decent quality and craftsmanship for being plastic. It works well enough. I found 2 issues with this sprayer. The first is there is no handle of any type to help handling or carrying the unit. Very inconvenient compared to other models of this sprayer that all have a handle of some sort. You have to basically embrace it or carry by using the back straps. The straps and cross chest straps seem very well made, very good material, but not for carrying the unit even when empty and especially not if filled with solution. The second issue is that I don't like is the removable handle that requires removal for storage, or changing the angle of the pump handle. It is not being permanently connected to the unit. Over time I plaiinly recognize this will create a problem of it becoming worn, and loosen, and then will come off as you pump. It is a push/pull,to attach/remove. Does not screw in or have any type of bolt or anything. The removable handle is not a bad idea , it helps to position it for easier storage. There is a handy wand holder storage slot on the lid.

I liked this unit. It was easy to wear and the straps made carrying the weight comfortable. I liked that the handle could slide on and off the lever allowing you to move it from one side to the other without a lot of effort. It holds 4 gallons which is a lot of material so you don't have to constantly refill the unit. It's made of a strong heavy plastic which means to me it should last well.

I was excited to receive the HDX four gallon backpack sprayer as I needed one, especially to spray fertilizer on my garden and lawn.It is well made of high density polyethylene. Even with it being almost full the sprayer was easily carried on my back, as the sprayer alone only weighs about a pound. It was easy to use and made the project go swiftly. This product is very versatile; I plan to use it shortly to spray some insecticide on the property. It has other uses as well. This is a great product.

Once I fixed the straps to the bottom bar of the unit correctly this backpack sprayer works just fine. The problem was that the instruction booklet was missing from the box and I could not find it online. It is easy to fill, easy to pump and after using pliers to adjust the spray wand head’s opening, it works like a champ. It is far easier to tote than lugging around a 2-gallon pump sprayer. If the instructions were included, I would likely have rated this 5 stars.

This backpack sprayer is poor quality. The handle keeps falling off and I had to drill a hole through the handle and put in a screw to keep it from falling off. It is very hard to get back on when the backpack is on your back. The sprayer adjustment is hard to adjust. The straps come undone easily. Just in general not worth the price. It is not very easy to put on with 5 gallons of water in it. Not a very well designed backpack sprayer.

This right now is the best backpack sprayer that I’ve had. Without hesitation I say it fits all my needs and expectations. I’ve gone through more than my share of backpack sprayers, manual as well as battery powered. If you are reading this review and you are shopping for a good quality, well built, sturdy and easy to use backpacker sprayer this one my top suggestion. It is comes with little to assembly, so in terms it seems simple. I would not hesitate recommending this to family and friends. VERY done HDX!!!! I got 2 new sprayers; this will be organic only, the other is for chemical applications. It is a comfortable carry, straps, belt and against your back. The only negative is this one does not come with different sprayer heads. For me I had a few laying around so just to note that shortcoming. As I said overall I am a HAPPY camper.

This is the big kahuna of back sprayers, holding 4 gallons of fluid. The only assembly needed is to attach the arm to either the right or left side. Attach it horizontal and pump by pulling upwards and then down again. At four gallons, it took 10 pumps to completely compress the sprayer. There are two types of streams, short spray and long stream. You can adjust the sprayer anywhere between but turning the nozzle. The backpack strap is comfortable and also has a chest strap. The trigger handle is about 30 inches long. The hose is very large and well made. The howl sprayer is well made. The top has a clever clamp to hold the handle. The top unscrews to a thick strainer. The metric and imperial graduations are printed on the unit but I highlighted them in black so I could see them better. I used this to spray garden vegetables with insecticidal soap, and large oak trees for carpenter ants. The sprayer performed perfectly. I am impressed. The shoulder straps clip on the bottom of the sprayer - maybe that could be a tighter fit, but it didn't fall off. I found that at 4 gallons and about 32 pounds full, it was not to heavy for me. I put the backpack on a picnic table and strapped it on. Cleaning was easy. I had to remember that the sprayer still has pressure so I had to make sure everything was sprayed out. This will get the job done for larger projects. I haven't tried the sprayer with painting fluids. Good product HDX.

I ordered this after seeing my son's neighbor using it. They let me try it and it was easy to use and you can put up to 4 gallons in the container. I have been using a hand held 2 gallon which is good but both hands were being used. So your focused is on spraying and holding. This backpack sprayer is comfortable and allows you to focus just on spraying. Gets the job done quicker. I will be using this for insects as well as spraying for weeds.

This HDX 4 Gal. Backpack Sprayer is a must if you do any yard spraying. The backpack sprayer once on your back is mighty comfortable. The side handle is so easy to keep the tank pressurized eliminating stopping to repressurize. The tank holding 4 gallons is not overweight to cattr on the back. The spray wand is very well sized to make even spot spraying very accurate, eliminating over spray.

This thing works perfectly. I have owned a two gallon electric sprayer in the past. This one is far superior. It takes about 10 pumps of the handle to get it going and then a few more here and there as you spray. Its pump bar can be attached on the left or right side to suit your preference. It does not require much effort to pump the handle. It is very well-designed. It does not leak or drip in the slightest. It may be a little heavy if one were to fill it all the way, but I use maybe two gallons at a time and the weight does not bother me at all. If you need to spray your garden this product is the way to go. At around $60 this is pretty hard to beat.

This sprayer does an excellent job! Straight out of the box, attach the pump handle and the wand, and you’re ready to go! And with a four-gallon capacity, you can mix up some strong weed killer and cover a lot of territory. Since I’m the neighborhood retired DIY, I get my neighbors yards as well as my own, so this does a great job without having to be refilled constantly. The pressure handle can be attached on the left or right, whichever you prefer - a great feature. I always put in the water first, and then the weed killer, to prevent foaming and an incorrect reading on the fill level. And the pump creates pressure very quickly, I was very satisfied that with only a few occasional pumps you could easily keep it going. It has the standard nozzle, counter clockwise for stream, clockwise for broad coverage or mist. And the wand has a very secure ‘return’ position, so that it stops the flow quickly, without dripping. Works very well. Only minor flaw (in my opinion), was the markings on the tank to show fill level. They are on the inside of the tank and very difficult to read. Larger markings on the side of the tank would have been very popular, I believe.

Yeah- no more lugging around our big, heavy sprayer. This backpack sprayer is so very handy. We are an elderly couple and hauling our heavy 2 gallon sprayer in our south Florida heat has been a challenge. All our heat, rain and humidity means bugs, bugs, bugs and we end up spraying non-toxic, natural chemicals a lot to keep our plants healthy. Enter our new backpack sprayer and problem of lugging a heavy sprayer around is solved. This sprayer holds up to 4 gallons although we will probably continue to fill it with 2 gallons at a time because that is enough for our medium sized garden . The straps are padded and the shoulder and waist strap all make the backpack comfortable to use. The sprayer nozzle is fully adjustable from heavy stream to fine mist, Best of all the sprayer has a lockdown switch to use on continuous spray which will save our thumbs from having to apply constant pressure. The nozzle wand is long and has an excellent reach. We can put the pump handle on either our left or right side and since I an left handed and my wife is right handed this is a great little feature. Really like this sprayer and highly recommend it. Can't think of a single feature I would change. Oh- it has a filter in the opening when you refill it that keeps out debris that might clog the nozzle - how handy is that?

The Home Depot Heavy-Duty Backpack Sprayer has a large tank opening for easy filling with a fine mesh filter. The padded shoulder straps with a belt and tank are designed to fit your back firmly. The spray wand can be used for left- and right-handed spraying and the hose exits the tank in the rear lower middle for easy swap from either side and has adjustable nozzle for stream choices. Suitable for use with all liquids except bleach. There is a Lock-on flow control for easy no tension spraying. The hand lever pressure pump is easy to pump. The pump handle is only friction attached to the pump. Breaks down easily for best storage.

I am delightfully surprised at how nice this sprayer is. I especially like the pump feature which unlike so many other sprayers, only pumps up an internal smaller tank making pumping quick and easy. My old sprayer took about 60-70 pumps if I had 2 gallons in a 3 gallon pumper, while this unit takes about 7-9 pumps to start working with 2 gallons of the 4 gallon capacity in it. It was a very smart way to make the unit easy to use while on your back. The pump handle fits a octagon fitting on either side of the unit, so you can adjust the handle easily to any position which is comfortable for your arms. It has a great fine mist sprayer adjustment, and also can do full stream hose type squirting if needed. I would only worry about the quality of some of the components as to their longevity due to fairly obvious mediocre quality. I do however recommend this as a very functional backpack sprayer.
