Easy to program, and keeps time accurately. This improved version has a AA battery backup that keeps all settings in the event of a blackout. Installed it to turn my fountain on and off. Inexpensive timer that works well.
AT FIRST I HAD A PROBLEM SETTING THE DAYS THAT I WANTED THE TIMER TO ENGAGE SO I CALLED THE FACTORY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT ON THE VERY TOP IN VERY SMALL LETTERS WERE THE DAYS, I DID NOT NOTICE THEM, THEY WERE HARD TO SEE, SO I THEN CONTINUED AND COMPLETED MY TASK. ONCE I HAD ALL THE DAYS AND TIMES SET PROPERLY, THE TIMER WORKED GREAT. THE DAY SELECTION SHOULD EITHER BE IN RED OR LARGER, THEN I WOULD RATE THIS TIMER A 5 RATING, BUT GREAT.
The timer appears to be well sealed and is designed for outdoor use provided it's plugged into a GFCI receptacle with an in-use cover and the timer is mounted at least 55 inches above ground with the outlets facing down. If I were going to use this outdoors permanently I'd probably get an outdoor sprinkler timer box to put it in just to be safe but the instructions don't indicate that's necessary. Sometimes I like to be extra cautious.
I got this timer to use indoors however. Unlike a lot of other plug-in timers this one is heavy duty and has 2 grounded outlets. It can handle 15 Amps of load, 10,000 watts of tungsten lighting, a 1/4 Horsepower motor, 8.3A inductive ballast or 500VA electronic ballast. This is a lot more capable than a simple two prong plug in lamp timer.
The humidistat built into my dehumidifier seems to be off and it runs too frequently in comparison to what an external humidistat is showing. I wanted a timer to restrict the time the dehumidifer is running to save some money and this has been working perfectly.
There are 7 on/off event pairs you can set for a total of 14 events. You can set each event to run on a single day, every weekday, every weekend day or every day. You can set the on/off time to a specific time or you can set it to turn on/off at sunrise or sunset. It adjusts the daylight time based on how you set it up. It's very easy to set up and the sunrise/sunset times are very close to my actual sunrise/sunset. It adjusts for daylight savings time and you can also add a random option so that the on/off event will occur at a random time up to 30 minutes from the actual programmed time so that it behaves more like someone is actually turning it off. A nice security feature if you want to use the timer to make it look like lights are turning off from imperfect human interaction instead of a timer.
You can also turn the programs on or off and manually turn on or off the outlets if you need to. It comes with batteries that serve as a backup so the timer keeps running even if power is lost and you don't lose your settings.
Intermatic has been making timers for a long time. They know what they're doing and this HB880R is no different from the quality of their other models. Takes some getting used to but the instruction manual is well written and easy to follow.
UTube Intermatic HB880R Digital Astronomical Time gives the best visual and audio instructions.
I replayed the UTube numerous, numerous, numerous times. I purchased 4. After setting up the first timer, I waited to set the time exactly when the minute changed for the other 3. This insured the 4 timers would go off at the same time. Whatever your the level of frustration is don’t give up. (My husband did before he even started.) I made a lot of mistakes. It never got easier for me, but I did it. With all the time it took the end result is well worth it! Oh joy, next Christmas I have to do it all over again.
