[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this for my neighbors' chickens and to help them keep their water unfrozen. It works great! You can either use it as a floater or in the bottom of the tank, I used it as a floater instead because of how deep their tank is (not too deep). The water does not freeze, and they are able to get the water they need while it's super cold outside. I suggest this for any outdoor water tank for any animal!

It literally got so hot it burned and melted itself! The idea is great, just the execution is lacking. Also, I didn't notice a huge power increase so it's not bad energy wise.

The product is very easy and safe to use and it is a lifesaver for pets that live outdoor during the winter.

Now I don't have to worry about their ice freezing over making it hard on them as well as me instead this de-icer is making sure that doesn't happen. If you have bad winters and have pets or livestock outside I would definitely recommend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product kept the water flowing so it didn’t ice over in even some serious northeastern Ohioan winter weather. My animals could drink easily and I had one less thing to worry about.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I didn’t get any photos of it before I set it up but that’s because I was in a hurry to see if it works since it’s cold here. I use it currently for the water tank for my wolves I raise. It does a great job of keeping the water from freezing and doesn’t over heat the water to where the wolves don’t have to worry about warm or hot drinking water. If you live somewhere cold and have a tank you want to stop freezing this is a must.

Using this in a closed 500 gallon holding tank at our cabin in Alaska. The uninsulated plastic tank sits outside on the ground. So far temps down to the single digits and the heater has kept the water ice free and flowing. The fact that the cage is attached to the heater and half the size of others makes a big difference for me. I suppose I should get a spare because it is kind of irreplaceable for our application.

I bought this about 1 month ago and use it in a 40? gal. muck bucket for my horse. I started not to buy it because it said not to use with an extension cord , but I saw several review where people did. I use mine with a heavy duty outdoor extension cord and it works GREAT . I love the fact that it comes in different wattages so you can select the one best for your climate. I also like the fact that it only comes on when the temperature outside drops to a certain level. I am 76 and was having to carry buckets of warm water to water my horse when it froze. Now I don't have to. So glad I bought this!!

Works well. Just be sure your stock tank doesn’t go dry. The element will melt the top plastic and the foam float. Caught it before the damage was bad.

I like the design but both heaters I bought are failing to keep up w our cold temps. The 1500 is in a 125 gal tank and I have to chop through 6 inches of ice everyday. The smaller heater is in a 50 gal tank and that tank is now frozen solid.

Heater is just fine, no problem. For it to be the "ultimate" tank heater it needs a metal coil sheath for the electric cord. It comes with a thin plastic guard. Cattle and probably horses will chew through this just for something to do!

The cord is too short.

Arrived with plastic cage broken, was told by K&H to deal with shipper. Heating element also did not work.

It fell apart and element started plastic on fire melting it.

I have had my K&H 500 W Stock Tank Deicer for at least two years now possibly three. It is the best one I have ever had. The option to purchase one with lower wattage is a huge plus. The property owner where I keep horses was complaining every winter about her increased electric bill. After making a switch from two 1500 watt deicers to the K&H 500W deicers there have been no complaints! It does the job and does it well. On days where the temps drop below 15 degrees there may be a bit of ice on the edges of our troughs but the water is not frozen. I love that this deicer comes apart for easy cleaning! Another huge plus! The only issue I noticed is that the foam that keeps the unit afloat is started to deteriorate. I plan on looking into replacing the foam if I can find some that will fit. I will definitely purchase this product again.

I have used these for a couple of years now. They are constantly "popping" my GFI's to my stock tank, especially after sitting in the water for some time. Even after pulling them out, soaking in vinegar to remove the built up sediment, and then putting them back in, they will pop the GFI. My electrician says that without a GFI they will constantly put little electrical currents through the water that will possibly shock my horses enough that they won't drink from the tank. In my mind, if they won't work with a GFI then it's a defective product.

Purchased 750 watt 12/05/20 for use in 70 gallon horse stock tank. Top ring on the heater melted after 15 days of use..

Working good at keeping my water from freezing. However, I went out one morning and the deicer was half submerged and half floating. I had been using it floating on the top of the water. I then noticed some red plastic pieces floating in the tank. Upon further inspection I found the plastic framed had melted and the styrofoam float ring had partially melted (thus the reason it was partially submerged). I removed the float ring and just let it sink to the bottom. It's still working but it was a little concerning the plastic melted. May have to consider a metal framed one in the future

Works well , keeps water from freezing

I purchased a 500 watt one four months ago because my 1500 w deicer kept blowing fuses. I was a little skeptical if the 500w would be enough for my hundred gallon Rubbermaid tank. We've had several weeks in Connecticut with temperatures in the single digits. The DHR has worked flawlessly as I've never even had a bit of ice in the water. and when the temperatures are in the 20s and 30s the water is basically lukewarm I would definitely buy another one of these deicers great product.

Good product. Like the 500W option, as all others I've found only offer 1500W, which is overkill and a waste of energy/money for our climate.

these heaters are great. we uise a 500 in a small tank and a 1000 in the large tank. our only option before these was a 1200 or 1500 watt in both tanks. these do a beter job of keeping the tanks ice free than the higher wattage ones from other mfgs did. the customer service people are great when we had a promlem with a heater that was bad they took care of it in a timely and professional way.

Am really appreciative of these capable lower wattage units. Altho these claim to be deicers, not heaters, these are doing a great job of heating water in smaller tanks up to 150 gal. All tanks on the farm are insulated and covered so that helps but I am able to use the 80 watt bucket heaters in the smaller tanks and the 500w unit in the 8' circular tank (28" deep). We have been down to 10F already and no problem. Depending on location of the tank (half outside of nonheated shelters, fully inside nonheated shelters, or completely outside,) I vary the wattage unit I use. Have been able to replace all my previous 1000w and 1500w units!!
