False alarms that can't be turned off
I've had this alarm in my home for the past year. Today it started going off randomly and saying "fire!" even though there isn't one. Hush mode didn't work -- it just kept going off despite the voice saying it was active. And since the battery isn't removable, there was no way to turn it off without using the permanent deactivation mechanism. Absolute junk.

Not reliable, scary for children, pets, parents.
I have had to remove and disable THREE of these from my home in the past six months after they activated for Fire with no fire, would not reset even after cleaning and all recommendations in manual. Activated in afternoon, then at hours 9:45, 10:45, 11:45, 12:45, then disabled. Not safe, very scary.

      10 years? Nope.
After 5 years had to buy 3 new ones, when it started chirping with low battery signal in bedroom, living room and kitchen. All within 2 months. Last one on Feb. 5th. Regular house, average temps of 69 F. 5 years only for the price is too expensive. Did anybody got 10 years out of them??

Hello. 10 years, yes, and they have a 10 year warranty. You didn't have to replace them. If you have issues with our alarms again, please call us at 1-800-880-6788 while onsite with the alarms before you replace them. We do stand behind our products and we are happy to troubleshoot and figure out what is going on and get an issue resolved. All we would be able to do is replace the alarms or replace them with something else like a fire extinguisher but if you still have these issue alarms, please call us with them in hand and we will see what we can do.

False alarms on a newer purchase
We purchased 2 of these in Sept 2022 with a manufacturer date of July 2022. They blink red followed by a beep which means replacement apparently. Thought they were suppose to last 10 years.

Hello. If the alarm wasn’t speaking and was chirping every 30 seconds instead of every minute then the unit has gone into an error mode as a safety feature. The unit has self-diagnostic circuits that test the alarm's sensors and electronics. Could this be an issue? We would be happy to stand behind the alarm. Call us with the alarms in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can figure out what is going on and get this resolved for you
          Worst alarm ever.
Bought these for all around my house a couple years ago. As with all of these other reviews that I now see, they started going off randomly bunch of false alarms. Clean them and still going off. Press hush, re triggers in a couple seconds. Re located them... Still went off. Such a waste of money for something that's supposed to last 10 year.

            False Alarms.
Installed this and started to receive false alarms. I had it installed all within recommended areas. It is completely clean. Not dust at all. Just keeps sending out a ‘fire’ alarm. Had to disable Before purchasing I looked for a device with a long life and this one advertised 10 years. I would hope to have gotten more than 3-4 years from this device. Not great for the landfills.

Hello. Please call us at 1-800-880-6788 before you replace the alarm. We do stand behind our products and we are happy to troubleshoot and figure out what is going on and get an issue resolved. If tiny fine dust gets into the sensing chamber, even if you can't see it, it can set off the alarm. To clean, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative. Call us with the alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can get this resolved for you.
              Very Disappointed
Alarm went off at 4:15 A.M. saying “FIRE” however we had NO fire, NO carbon monoxide, just a house of very tired people and a scared dog. I have always used Kidde alarms for as long as I can remember and now I need to replace the 1 that went off this morning and the same one that I have in my room! So the alarm only lasted 4 years but should have lasted 10 years. They are expensive!

Hello. Please call us at 1-800-880-6788 before you replace this alarm. We do stand behind our products and we are happy to troubleshoot and figure out what is going on and get an issue resolved. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms. Try cleaning out the alarms. If you have the issue again, call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can get this resolved for you.

Recently purchased 6 and one in hallway just woke entire house up at 12:30 am. Beeping and stating “fire” non stop. No smoke, no fire, or anything remotely close in house. It can’t be silenced and the tab in the back to shut off w screwdriver doesn’t turn. Had to break housing and destroy unit to silence. If only I’d read reviews first! Kiddie response 1 star reviews is a joke. Blaming dust, moisture, ventilation? I’ve had smoke detectors my entire life but none have ever done this! Not normal!

Hello. To turn the screwslot on the back, you do have to break the tab on the back of the alarm first. Yes, it does sounds like some dust or debris or an insect got into the smoke chamber of the alarm and the alarm mistook the debris for smoke. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean, after disconnecting the alarm and removing any removable battery: hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative.

False Alarm Then Won’t Shut Off
I bought this unit in May 2020 and now on December 2021 had a false alarm at 3:25 am and would not shut off. First said fire then carbon monoxide then fire each time after that. I took it down and tried the disabling instructions on back. What a joke. Finally pried the top off with a screwdriver and cut the wires inside. There isn’t any dust, dirt or insect inside the unit. Just a malfunctioning produce. Read the other reviews on this piece of junk. Thanks for nothing, Kidde.

Cliff notes: not resettable, doesn’t last. I’ve owned three of these in the last few years and all of them have failed. First one- started alarming during smokey CA fire season. Seemed legit, but there was NO WAY to turn it off or reset it. The only option you have is ”PERMANETLY DISABLE AND DISCHARGE ALARM,” as labeled on the back, at which point you have to throw your supposedly ‘10 year’ alarm away because the batteries aren’t replaceable. Second one- started alarming in the hallway when bathroom door was opened and steam from the shower set it off. Again- NO WAY to turn it off. I moved it to fresh air in front of a fan and it still wouldn’t quit. Pushing the button would only silence it for a minute and then it would start up again. Eventually I just smashed it on the ground and it finally died. Much more satisfying. Third one- in the laundry room, with the washing machine running, goes off for no reason. No smoke, no steam, no CO, but it says there’s a fire. This time I went straight to the smash it on the ground method! These were all roughly 2 years old. Do not buy. False advertising implying that they’ll last 10 years. They seem to be a ‘one and done’ type of alarm. Annoying, hassle, waste of money. Doesn’t give me much confidence that they’ll even work when they’re supposed to, and may even be worse when they ‘cry wolf’ and the family starts not taking them seriously.

Alarm comes on without a fire or smoke
Kidde P3010CU bought from Home Depot in Nov 2018. Unit manufacturer date April 21, 2018. I installed & activated the unit not until Jan 2021 this year. Today March 21, 2021 (just two months) after installation, the smoke/fire alarm comes on without any fire or smoke. Don't know what to do as Home depot return date over. The ten years manufacturer warranty covers or not if the unit is with defect in just two months from opening the box & installed though the purchase date was Nov 2018. Thank you.

                          Do not buy- zero stars
I purchased a house that had these installed. Alarm 1: location; living room. The first time it went off was early morning. After my freakout, I grab a broom and was able to silence alarm. The second time it went off in the middle of the night. I grabbed the step stool (which I purchased incase the alarm activated) and pulled the alarm down. I had to use a lot of pressure to the silence the alarm. I put the alarm on my closet shelf and forgot about it. That is until it went off a third time. This time I permanently disabled and tossed it in the trash. Alarm 2: Location; hallway. The first time it went off was around 10 am. After looking around and finding no fire, I ran for the step stool. I pulled the alarm down and pressed the button to silence. I put the alarm on the bathroom counter, where it sat. Until it went off again a week later. This time, I had to press the silence button really hard and for about 2 minutes before it would stop. Once it stopped blaring, I permanently disabled and tossed in the trash. Both alarms had a manufacturer date of January 2019. I have 3 more of these alarms in the bedrooms. I plan to take them down and toss them out, before they false alarm. Pure Junk. Save your money.

I love that this is calibrated to function properly in a normal household that actually cooks in the kitchen. Even with some typically smoky meal preparation, our old detector went off ALL the time and this one does not. It has a tolerance for a minute amount of smoke which is much better than constantly fanning the old style detector. Very simple to install with two small screws. I like that I don't have to do anything to it for 10 years.

I bought several, for my home and for a two family rental unit. These are ideal for a rental unit, as you don't have to worry about replacing the batteries when they expire, or should the tenant remove them. The small mounting disc is installed in the ceiling using three screws; the unit is then twisted on. The alarm is tested immediately after installation: a pleasant female invoice alerts you to "Fire" or " Carbon monoxide". Presumably this is what happens should the real event occur; hopefully I will never need to find out. All set now until the year 2028!

The product description seems to have been written by the person that wrote the pamphlet that lists the latest smoke detector requirements. Installation was easy and the instructions were succinct and concise.

Works as advertised and easy to install
I needed a replacement CO detector and found this as a replacement. As noted in the instructions, it speaks, is loud enough to wake the soundest sleeper and is quite easy to install. Attached it to a stud behind the drywall and twisted it into place. This activated the alarm and now its up and working.

these are the hardest reviews to write
I mean, what do you say? "I really hope it never goes off for real, because that means something really bad is happening in my house."? Which, to be fair, is *exactly* what I hope (i.e. that it never has a good reason to go off for real). What I *can* say beyond that is that I really like the trend over the past couple of years of going to a 10 year sealed battery, as well as combining the smoke and CO functions into one alarm. As a homeowner and a landlord, I can tell you that keeping track of over a dozen different alarms on 4 different floors (some of which take 9V batteries, and some AA) can be a real pain. Especially when something starts chirping low battery in the middle of the night, and there's at least a couple of nearby alarms it could be. I've been transitioning mine over to sealed battery units as they start to die, so this unit fits perfectly with that pattern. One minor concern I'll mention is that when I tested it, while the beep was pretty loud, the spoken voice component (that tells you if it's detecting smoke or CO) didn't seem as loud. I suppose as long as something alerts you to a problem, you can pay more attention to the actual words. I only mention it because I purchased a different speaking alarm last year, and the spoken alert on that one was much louder.

Easy install and 10 year battery win win
Install is as easy as it gets, one plastic screw into drywall. There are also screws and plastic inserts provided if you are installing on something other than drywall. Also a 10 year battery, thats a plus too. I never seem to have a 9-volt battery around when I heard the old one beeping telling me it was time to change. And then it would be weeks before I remember to change it. The warning for smoke and CO are loud and distinctive. There is also a voice warning to let you know if the alarm in smoke or CO.

                            Best Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Alarm ever!
The best smoke and carbon monoxide alarm I have installed. Comes with a 10 year li-ion battery. You never have to worry about changing the battery for the next 10 years, one of it's best features. Another great feature is it has both a voice and beep warnings. It will alert you to smoke/fire detection; carbon monoxide detection, and end of life of the alarm battery. You can't ask for a better smoke/carbon monoxide detector, one of the easiest to install.
