[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the second trash compactor we have bought from Kitchen Aid. The first one was still working after 22 years but we wanted the stainless look when we redid our kitchen. It is very quiet and we get two weeks of garbage in it. Wouldn’t do without! Packs everything down.

Door on compactor is defective. Two service providers confirm. Major parts replacement when it is less than a month old. HD phone routing and complaint management was nightmare.

Bought this trash compactor based on the good reviews. Was delivered and we installed it that day. Turned it on and it sounded like a rock crusher, and it wasn't even compacting. It wouldn't stop unless we opened the door. If we shut the door, it started up again. Called KitchenAid and they had no idea what was wrong, but wanted to schedule a repairman. So we had a brand new appliance, which is almost $400 more than a Whirlpool compactor, that didn't work out of the box, and they wanted us to wait until some repairman came? No way. We took it back to Home Depot the next day and they were great in understanding the problem.

It is good, but not as good as my original KitchenAid which had last since 1978.

The trash compactor works great and is quieter than our old one. The only issue is sometimes it is difficult to open the door.

I bought this a few weeks ago and it was delivered / dropped off at my home yesterday. Everything appeared perfect from the outside, no damage to the box whatsoever. I opened it up and there is a huge indentation at the top right of the door that seems to have practically knocked the door off. It is very wobbly and crooked. There is also a large dent on the right hand side near the back. Since the packaging was not damaged, I can only deduce that it was damaged at the factory prior to boxing, and the quality control people were taking a nap since this slipped right by them.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Replaced our 26 years old model with this one. Has the classic KitchenAid look that matches our dishwasher. The compactor seems to work fine. It feels like it is constructed a little “cheaper” than our old unit, so we will see how long it lasts. The foot pedal catches and doesn’t open the door easily. All of that said — there is not much to choose from competitively.

Replaced existing KA trash compactor and newer Handel is out further than old thus obstructing drawer on corner not to open. Bad planning on new design.

We have had our Kitchenaid trash compactor for just over 6 years. I used to consider a trash compactor a luxury item, but no more. I wouldn’t live without one now that I been spoiled. We take the trash out once a week. Period. No bad smells, no mess, no fuss. I tell everyone I know that is remodeling, or building new to honestly consider purchasing this along with every other appliance.

It's a great compactor.

First, we've been Kitchen Aid consumers for quite a few years, but the last two purchases we've made have been terrible! I don't know what has happened to Kitchen Aid, but the usual quality we've come to expect from them has vanished. Whoever designed the rear wheel adjustment should be fired! Having to flip the unit on it's side to remove the bottom plate to gain access to the adjustment screws is absurdly STUPID and made for a greasy mess. Who thinks of crap like this? This design is totally unnecessary and made the install take way longer than it should have. Having to depress the foot switch TWICE in order for the compactor to complete a single cycle is a daily nuisance as well. To spend almost $2,000 on this unit was such a waste of money! About all I can say that is positive is that it looks nice aesthetically.

The unit wasn’t that much quieter than the $999 model. However the additional compaction ability is worth something.

We have had Kitchen aid compactor for 22years with no problems. Built second home in VT and wanted one for this house also since we take trash home with us. Received from HD with no problems installed with no problems but my wife can't open door. When you step on foot peddle door should open 6-8 inches new one opens 1/2 inch then takes 2 hands to open. Called for service came out with-in a week, great! Diagnosis : inside of compactor is smaller than outside rails ordering new rail system no idea how long it will take nobody buys trash compactors any more. $1600 and I got nothing, on going will update

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When we opened the box the pedal had a huge crack. When we notified warranty they sent a repair company who replaced it with a different pedal, which is also the same one in the display floor at store. So KitchenAid has obviously updated their product with an improved foot pedal. However, it is so much larger and it covers the pedal you push to start the compactor, making it not as easy to get to our push. Other than that, it is wonderful and I love that you can lift the compactor to open or step on pedal. Quiet, beautiful and smooth. If it weren't for the "not so easy access" of the "start pedal", I'd give it a 5 star rating.

Received without the handle or hardware. Have been trying to get one shipped for two weeks now. Customer Service is not helpful. I have it installed but can’t use it. And there are two holes in the front of it where the handle goes. I am told Covid delays…. And now I’m just being told order is being processed. Not a good experience at all especially for the price.

I am disappointed with the quality of this product. I have owned a compactor for over 40 years. The drawer on this one is very, very shake. Make a noise long after it has compacked. Only keeping because of limited availability, hope it will hold up until a better one becomes available. I have been a professional Home Economics for over 50 years. Had complete conference in anything that was kitchenAid. So sorry it's not what it had been, another one bits the dust.
