Perfect for a retrofit
I bought a steel box, plate, 1/2" offset nipple and a bit of tw90 to run into the breaker and keep it fully covered in grounded metal before the afci. Connected to the NM on the load side once it was in. My breaker is old enough to not have gfci/afci breakers available (for less than $500 each), but new enougj that it works pretty well and I can get non-afci breakers just fine. This receptacle went on easy, has clamps for a nice install with stranded, and works great. After installing I found two lights that no longer work and trip it. This is exactly what I wanted this for, as they were a hazard and now I can fix them. Problems with loose neutrals or neutral-ground connections are extremely hard to find on older circuits without this.

Cost effective solution for old wiring.
The combined functionality is great. I added these to old circuits, that needed both ground fault and arc fault protection -- bringing them up to code. They are less expensive than AFCI/GFI breakers -- especially since standard breakers were already installed in the panel. I mounted them in boxes right next to the main breaker panel. Delivery was fast and convenient. Easy to install. Consider a deep box to make installation easier.

Purchased and installed to provide AFCI and GFCI protection for a replacement garbage disposal per current NEC requirements. The dual function receptacle worked properly for less than 5 days and then began to trip when the new garbage disposal was turned on. Testing the circuit and disposal with a megohmmeter revealed that the branch circuit, switch, and disposal motor were all fine. The problem was clearly a faulty AFCI/GFCI device. I replaced the dual function receptacle with a duplex outlet and installed a dual function AFCI/GFCI circuit breaker in the panel. I should have put in the Siemens dual function circuit breaker in the first place since it provides protection for the entire circuit not just at the receptacle. However, my local Home Depot (Dacula, GA) did not have any Siemens dual function AFCI/GFCI breakers on the shelf because the electrical aisle was just reset to make room for the new Leviton Load Centers. This is not the first faulty Leviton GFCI or AFCI device that I've purchased from Home Depot, but it will definitely be the last. Based on the history of failures that I've seen from Leviton GFCI devices over the years and the poor history that I've witnessed from the Leviton AFCI devices there is no way that I'll be risking my money or reputation by installing a Leviton Load Center. I might be able to get a refund from Home Depot for the Leviton AFCI/GFCI outlet, but what about my time spent on a warranty? Certainly I can't bill my customer to repair something that they just paid to have repaired less than a week ago. Who's going to pay for licensed contractors to go back to customer's homes and replace faulty AFCI devices? @Leviton where can I send the bill for a one hour troubleshooting and repair service call?

My older device kept tripping since the builder used it for the three bathrooms, the garage, and front door outlets. Builders will do anything to save a few dollars. I upgraded to the new design for the fire protection since I consider that risk to have a higher probability of occurring. More electrical house fires than electrocutions in the bathroom.

Great Replacement for Older GFCI that stopped working.
Bought this to replace a GFCI that failed in my bathroom. Easy install 4 wires and the ground. I marked my line wires before disconnecting them from the old outlet. Proceeded to wire up, put back in wall. Put new cover on. Once energized and tested everything is good. This is the first outlet in circuit that is where you need to install it. The outlet downstream on the circuit is my porch outlet, now its AFCI protected

It has taken me awhile but I just finished installing this combo 20A AFCI/GFCI. I guess it should give me more peace of mind that it offers dual protection. The test button works flawlessly and the little green light on the edge of the outlet means it is functioning properly.Best of all these are priced for the same price of a regular GFCI, so what's to lose?I have heard that these trip when using an electric motor or vacuum cleaner. Don't know for sure only time will tell.

The Leviton combo AFCI/GFCI tackles 2 problems with one device. It is stylish and functional. The indicator light lets you know if the outlet is tripped or available. The tamper resistant design keeps the little ones from unintentionally getting injured by putting a foreign object in the outlet. The Decora style in timeless and pleasing to the eye. With the self-test buttons, you can check to make sure that the outlet is functional. The AFCI is a great feature that prevents accidental fires from dust and misuse. Great features, and great product.

The product was very easy to install. My kitchen outlets are on a 20amp breaker. We moved about three years ago. I have slowly been replacing the outlets as needed. Seemed like this was the perfect fit. I know it boasts a slimmer design than most outlets, but was not applicable in my installation. Luckily it was the same size as you can tell from the pictures. Since I have done several electrical jobs around the house, I was very comfortable swapping the old outlet for the new outlet. Turned off the breaker box. Made sure to note the line and load from the previous switch. Swapped. All is well.

SUMMARY: A GREAT CODE COMPLIANT 20 AMP OUTLET. BACKGROUND: I run a lot of electrical in my shop. I wanted to run a 20 amp outlet on a rolling cabinet as a source for power to tools when I work in the driveway FIT AND FINISH: A nice looking outlet. I like the Decora style. The Test and Reset buttons are fairly easy to operate. INSTALLATION: There is nothing different installing this outlet from any other. Wiring points are easy. OPERATION: There is no difference using this outlet although the tamper-resistant feature is a little awkward sometimes. The trip indicator is easy to see. SUMMARY: A good stylish 20 AMP AFCI/GFCI outlet. PROS: Easy to install. Stylish. AFCI/GFCI compliance

As expected and beyond! Excellent quality and design. Installation was OK. The packaging of the outlet is somewhat above expectations: just too fancy (IMHO: no needed though still pleasant to "unwrap" (see picture). The dual action (AGCI/GFCI) is priceless. On top it comes with temper resistance. Highly recommend: will delivery top safety into your dwelling. Happy DIYing!

I'm planning to use dual protection devices in my new laundry room, so I obtained this one to install in my kitchen and evaluate. It matches the Decora devices in my back-splash. (Photo 1) It is simple to replace existing devices with typical wiring. (Photo 2) The new device features both screw terminals (Photo 3) and push-in connections. (Photo 4) So, likely as not, your most complex wiring can be accommodated. Do note that this device must be installed first in line along a parallel circuit serving multiple receptacles. In addition to the peace of mind derived from a dual-function device, the self-test and lockout features of this one justify its cost. A status indicator alerts you to a circuit needing attention. Its tamper resistant construction is another plus, given my grandkids' curiosity.

The Leviton SmartlockPro provides triple protection by offering ground fault protection, arc fault protection and tamper resistance. I found the tamper resistance functioned smoothly where other products can be difficult to get your plug into. Wires can be attached via back wire or standard wrap around the screw. The product came with a separate unbreakable nylon wall plate. I installed the product as the first device on a 20 amp breaker circuit. Downstream from the product was a single outlet and an eight foot low profile power strip on a workbench. Ground fault interruption worked as expected and I tested it directly on the product and with a GFCI tester on a downstream outlet. For arc fault testing I rigged up a power cord in a downstream outlet and caused a direct short across hot and neutral. The Leviton product tripped instead of the breaker.

Innovations in electrical safety in the home is ever evolving. GFCI has been around for a while and is designed to interrupt power quickly when a faulty condition exists that might try and use YOU to complete a circuit instead of the intended path the result of which might be electrocution. Installations are required anywhere near water supplies or possible wet conditions. These devices are super sensitive with the mindset that in this case, safe is much better than sorry and as a result false or nuisance tripping is somewhat common. Because of this they are NOT required for use with refrigerators or freezers to prevent costly spoilages (guess everything really does have a price point, including safety) Tamper Resistant Outlets have internal shielding that will not allow insertion of objects other than proper electrical plugs to protect curious or mischievous children Newest technology is Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters that can detect sparking caused by damaged electrical cords or loose/cracked wiring both of which are the cause of many house fires... newest codes require them anywhere people spend time frequently or copiously In any event, this device offers all THREE FORMS OF PROTECTION. The packaging includes graphics showing which areas of the home require what type of protection. However, it is quite acceptable to install this device anywhere an outlet exists whether or not required by code. I chose to install this in the garage to replace a standard GFCI that feeds 7 other outlets that get used frequently for a vast assortment of power tools.

I was glad to see that they are now making GFCI receptacles with white reset and test buttons. I never did like those red and black buttons on the other models. They were OK for the outdoors, garage or basement, but they stick out like a sore thumb in the kitchen or bathroom. I also like the arc fault protection offered by this model, as I once had a problem with arcing in my old house.

Moving into a 1960 house, all the outlets were 2 prong and thus ungrounded. When so many electrical items require that ground, it meant we'd slowly be replacing all the outlets. These were numbers 18-20. We love them as they're sturdy, easy to install, and easy to reset.
