[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The master lock key holding lock box is a good thing to have for a back up set of keys unit is very easy to open and also simple lock pin change. Highly recommend for a hide a key or just a good locked spot for keys.

The most annoying issue is that this lock will open even if you miss two of the four digits on the combination, e.g it comes preset at 0000; if you set it to 1010, it still opens with 0000. It also has much less space than it looks from the outside. It doesn't fit a safety door key like CISA, because the mechanism takes almost half of the storage space when the door closes and hits on the key; as a result the door doesn't close.

Did everything it was supposed to. Guy tried hard to break in to get the key but it held strong. I'm a happy customer.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently got the Master Lock No. 5400D Portable Lock Box for use when we’re out of town and a house sitter needs access to the home. We usually just give keys to our house sitters. But, I figure this approach, i.e., the key is always at the house, hanging on the door, vs. potentially getting lost in someone’s home (which happened in the past) is better. The lockbox is typical of those you’d see realtors using. It’s fairly large, to provide more storage room. The exterior measures 6.25 H x 3.25 W x 1.5 D. The interior compartment measures 1 H x 2&13/32 W x 1 D. The interior compartment is sized generously enough to fit 5 (possibly more) standard-sized house keys (keys with no oversized/padded key grippers) and/or a few access cards, depending on your use case. Obviously, larger keys and/or keys with oversized/padded grip areas will mean fewer keys inside the storage compartment. The lockbox shackle (which will fit over most exterior door knobs and/or handles) is 1&13/32 L x 1&7/8 W x 13/32 Diameter. Realistically, the lockbox only serves as a theft deterrent and a convenience for those that know the combination. While “beefy,” it is not impenetrable. But, if someone really wants to get inside your home, they’ll find a way… key or no key. Inside the packaging you get the lockbox and easy-to-follow instructions. The lockbox is so easy to use that, short of the default combination needed to get into the storage compartment, which is already set out of the box… allowing you simply to open the housing, the instructions aren’t needed. However, if you do need the instructions, they’re well written and there for you. The lockbox housing is a sturdy metal with a vinyl coating, the latter to prevent scratching your door, door knob, etc. While I appreciate the coating, I know from experience with this coating that, over the years, the coating disintegrates and gets tacky (especially when continually exposed to the elements). The change takes a while, but it does occur. The four-digit combination pad is protected by a cover that slides up and down. The cover seems to stay in place (when covering the digit rollers) via friction… i.e., the pad slides up/over the rollers and you can “feel” the pad’s resistance as it slides over the roller area. This makes me wonder how long the friction will last and keep the cover securely over the rollers. Still, it’s a nice addition that adds an extra layer of protection for the rollers and the lock’s gears. The thumb-slip opener to the left of the rollers (used to open the faceplate and expose the storage compartment) is fairly easy to use once you input the correct digit combo. After engaging the opener, the faceplate falls forward easily and gives you access (both via slide mechanisms… the first next to the digit rollers, but on the reverse side… the next, next to the shackle at the top-right of the lock housing to, respectively, a) reset the four digit combination and b) open the lockbox shackle. Master Lock also built a safety mechanism into the lock that doesn’t let you close the faceplate without the shackle being first being fully inserted into the lockbox housing. Some might ask, “why?” I think it’s ingenious, as it protects the shackle and/or anything else from being damaged by the pointier side of the shackle. More importantly, it lessens the chance of you forgetting to fully engage the shackle in the lock’s housing… making sure that your keys are stored safely in a fully-locked lockbox. It must be said that, while well made, this lock box is not waterproof and is not made of water-resistant/rust-resistant materials. Because of this, the lock box is best used under an awning and/or hung on a door knob, etc. protected by a storm door or some other means of cover. If exposed to the elements long-term, and if not properly greased on occasion, to add a layer of protection/keep gears working as well as possible, the metal innards, and depending on the metal out of which your keys are made (and how long they sit in the box exposed to the elements) will rust. For my use case, i.e., placed on our exterior front-door doorknob, protected by a storm door, the lock will be protected and will serve us well, for a long time to come. So, worth purchasing? Absolutely. The Master Lock No. 5400D Portable Lock Box isn’t perfect. But, when cared for and used/stored properly, the lockbox definitely meets my needs and is an excellent solution to lessen the need to share house keys with house sitters and others. It’s built well, is easy to use, and is a solid four-star purchase all the way. So, if I like it… why not five stars? Five stars goes above and beyond what the manufacturer says a product will do. The Master Lock No. 5400D Portable Lock Box ticks all my boxes and meets my needs. It isn’t out saving kittens from trees. So, a solid four stars it is (which is great in my book). If looking for a lockbox to protect your keys/access cards, etc… while providing added convenience to those that need to enter your home, apartment, and so on… definitely consider the Master Lock No. 5400D Portable Lock Box. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have this hung in our back door! I love it for when the kids forget their keys or we have family that stop in when we are not home! It’s perfect because the combo is easy to put in even with the younger and elderly hands. The size is great of the key with a key chain. It’s easy to program the code you want and easy to open the top with no additional code once the box is open! This would be perfect for vacation homes or for workshops/garages!

These are junk do not buy. They are made of super thin material that you can smash open

This lock was easy to break. Thieves stole over $5,000 in tools and materials. DO NOT TRUST THIS LOCK FOR ANYTHING VALUABLE.

Was using this lock for a month before i had a late night and expensive locksmith visit to secure our home during a remodel. Easily broken into during the daytime. Thief stole the key by breaking the box. See photo of how they broke it.

I purchased my first lock back in Oct of 2020. The lock failed in the open position in April of 2021. I purchased a replacement lock. It failed within 5 days. Only this time it failed in the locked position. I went to cutomer service at HD and they said in order to return the lock, I would have to cut it off then return it. They customer service guy had me buy a bolt cutter, go cut the lock, then return the bolt cutter and the lock. What a joke ... do not buy this lock unless you like frustration. It is garbage... I learned the hard way by purchasing 2 of them, both of which failed in a very short period of time.

I lock it, but forgot the numbers, so I can’t open it up. Anyway it can be returned to home-depot to get it open?

User friendly and it works great for what I need it for tired locking myself out things

Only about 2 weeks of use, seems good so far. All the options of these style locks seem similar. I wouldn’t call it much more than tamper proof. I labeled my key “ PizzaHut” and put lockbox in the shared parking lot. It doesn’t rain here so I don’t know about weather issues. Good for temporary use

The lockbox has been easy to program and very convenient for the renovations that I am having done. The lockbox was a great purchase.

Very easy to set up and use, if you wiggle your keys in the box you can fit more than 5. I fit 8 keys with tags.

As a busy Realtor®, this is exactly what I need to leave a key out for the contractors.

Use on every one of the homes we renovate and then reuse again. Easy to use and code. You must however put keys in with a steel ring holder if you plan over 5 keys.

These portable Master locks work great and picking them up from my online order was flawless.

The lockbox was simple to learn to use by way of the instructions included. Master Lock is a very reputable brand, known for their quality. It has done, for me, exactly what I hoped it would! Mahalo

Great product. Easy to use. Convenient. I can use it severaltimes. It's sturdy and weather proof.. canuse in front doors, backdoors, rails and is easy to open mount and dismount. Convenient slide to cover combination numbers

Much preferred this type of box over the type that you punch in the 4 numbers.

I bought the first one that can not be open. I exchange the 2nd one which is good do far. The employee who t as liked to me was great and helpful.

Replaced an identical lock which was years old and exposed to the elements.
