This is a particularly well designed and made Hawkbill knife. The blade is made of stainless steel so it resists corrosion. Extremely sharp and durable it will hold it's edge through many cable stripping s. Of course it can be used for countless other tasks as well. I like that the front end of the blade is blunt for approximately the first inch. This avoids accidents in the event you have a slip up. The handle is made of ergonomic plastic and is very comfortable in hand. It comes with an ergonomic plastic sheath as well which can be worn on a belt or attached to your tool belt. It allows for quick retrieval of the tool when needed. It also has this 3 in 1 stickwork ring at the end of the handle which is useful for a number of things including making a bend or loop in a metal rod or strand of wire. But also for hanging for storage or even to attach a key chain. Top of the line, quality tool at a fair price.

The 5 Inch Hardline fixed Blade knife has many uses weather it's just to have around the house of if you are an avid outdoors-man. The knife comes with multi-position sheath. It can be attached to belts, backpacks etc. The knife is very sharp and strong. It has the ability to cut thru most materials with relative ease. It's also very lightweight at .6lbs so you hardly notice you have it on.

Another well-made Milwaukee tool. This knife (model 48-22-1928, Made in Taiwan) is extremely comfortable to use, very well balanced and quite sharp out of the package (which, as always, is extremely hard to open.) The full-length tang makes the knife virtually unbreakable, not that I tried hard to break it! The steel blade is simple – no sawing teeth, no hooks, no cutting notches. It's made for stabbing and cutting. The hard plastic sheath has a well-designed thumb release tab on both sides, making it easy to grab and release the knife with either hand. The knife can be removed by pulling without pressing the thumb button, but it's designed to be much harder – the leverage provided by the thumb really helps and it's a very natural movement. There is a lot of webbing and velcro on the sheath, providing multiple options for carrying the knife (see photos on the web site), but all of it can be removed as desired to meet user needs. I really like the option to carry the knife horizontally on my belt, in the small of my back, but that takes a fair amount of playing with belts, velcro and belt loops to get right. The webbing includes a loop with snap button to secure the handle inside the sheath. It's a tight fit that really secures the handle, but it requires two hands to snap closed so it's awkward to use when the knife is carried on the back. Another nice touch is the lanyard hole in the handle; this is a high-priced knife so I'd hate to lose it in the field. I appreciate the high quality a lot, but it seems a bit overpriced. Still, it's easy to recommend for serious users.

During my years in the Navy as a Naval Flight Officer I was issued a survival knife that fortunately I never had to use for that, but around the house I used it for everything outside that needed cutting. Not sure where it ended up but I have definitely missed it. When I saw this 5 in. Fixed Blade Knife from Milwaukee it looked like a good replacement. It definitely is with its good nylon grip, sharp steel blade and really good point at the end. It comes with a very nice molded sheath that fits well on your belt. I am definitely going to be using this one for many years. My only negative comment to the manufacturer would be about the packaging it comes in. It is packaged so tightly that there was very little room between the knife and an open space to cut the heavy plastic off. Since you are trying to open a very sharp knife with another cutting tool that could cause someone to injure themselves.
