Wow!
This is a beautifully crafted set of hole cutters. Unlike most hole saws, these have carbide teeth. In my limited experience with them, this results in significantly cleaner cuts with less chatter and almost no burr on the exit side of the cut. They are made for metal, so will only cut to a maximum depth of just under 1/2" (.425" to be precise). They don't replace the hole saws used for wood which can cut up to 2" depth of cut. I found the choice of sizes a bit strange: 7/8", 1 1/8". 1 3/8", then it jumps to 1 3/4", 2" and 2 1/2". Perhaps there's another set with 1", 1 1/4", ... sizes in it. The set includes an RPM guide, but it is printed VERY small. For maximum tool life, these speed guidelines should be followed as closely as possible. The set includes a couple of extra pilot bits (they are stepped bits) and 2 extra hex keys for the pilot bit. Each cutter also includes a spring which does a surprisingly good job of keeping the inner piece from getting jammed inside the cutter, but does tend to pick up stray material from the pilot cut. The cutting edges are angled slightly towards the inside so that the hole is clean and the center piece which is cut out still has a small amount of cutting 'swarf' attached to it (see the picture).

Milwaukee Carbide Cutter Set
The Milwaukee 1-Piece Carbide Cutter 8-Piece Set has a lot of features that you are looking for. The cutter uses a carbide tooth that will last 10x longer than standard hole saws. It gives a smooth cut on hard metals like stainless steel, mild steel, copper, aluminum. It has a stop shoulder design to keep you from over-drilling to a 3/16 in deep. That a great feature when you drilling it finally cuts through it keep you damaging what behind it. Another nice feature is the shank has three flat spot that fits in the drill chuck to helps from not slipping when it uses in a drill or driver. On the inside of the plastic case has the recommended speed of each hole cutter. No more guessing what speed is best for maximum performance on each hole cutter. It does have a spring-loaded pilot bit for getting the metal piece out of the bit. The carbide hole cutter kit includes 7/8 in., 1-1/8 in., 1-3/8 in., 1-3/4 in., 2 in., 2-1/2 in. cutters, 2 additional pilot bits and plastic case. Product is made in China.

The Milwaukee Carbide Hole Cutter Kit (8-Piece Set) has the 6 sizes I needed to perform thin metal hole perforations (between 7/8" to 2 1/2")! The carbide teeth cut quickly and efficiently, leaving a burr free and smooth open hole while minimizing battery drain. I like the 3/16" rim hip that prevents penetrating too far into boxed components. Pilot bits are designed to start quickly and maintain whole pin point entry. The storage case is well made and secures/protects all of the bits...nice!

Super sharp, very smooth cutting, clean hole. These hole saws have very precise and sturdy construction. They are much sturdier and more precise than the standard hole saws that I have. These saws come with an ejector spring to push out the cut material, but for thicker material I found it best to remove this spring because its compressed height limits the penetrated cut depth. I used a saw to cut mild steel using my belt-driven Delta floor mounted drill press because it would be a good comparison with standard hole saws which require enough torque to can cause belts to slip. With these super sharp Milwaukee hole saws the cutting was very smooth without any belt slip, a major upgrade using these saws. The final result, as shown in one of the photos, is a very clean hole. With thicker material I found that the ejector spring compressed to its sold height before I could get completely through the material. I simply removed the spring (a very easy task) and completed the hole cutting without any problem. The cut material fell out easily without the spring. These are great saws. I really like them.

The Milwaukee 8-Piece Carbide Hole Cutter Kit is a good addition to any contractor or DIY Homeowner that needs to cut holes in sheet metal. It’s limited to 3/16 inch in depth, so cannot be used for general use in wood or metal. The carbide teeth are extremely sharp and durable, lasting 10X the life of bi-metal hole saws. It also comes with spring loaded pilot bits for easy plug ejection, and six hole saws, ranging from 7/8” to 2 ½” diameter. The primary use for the Milwaukee Carbide Hole Cutter Kit is for plate steel; suitable for mild steel, stainless steel, copper and aluminum material. It's a pricey hole saw kit, but is very high quality.

CUTS FAST; PILOT BIT EJECTS SLUG; COMPACT CASE; NO INSTRUCTIONS — The Milwaukee Carbide Hole Cutter Kit (4-Piece) is a useful kit to have on hand when needing to make a hole in metal with a handheld, cordless drill. There were no instructions or suggestions so I needed to experiment. I used a punch to mark the center location of the hole so that the pilot bit did not wander. The pilot bit on the hole cutter worked exceedingly well. I set the drill to low speed and a high torque. Then I introduced operator error. I had some trouble maintaining the drill perpendicular to the metal which caused the hole cutter to bind. Also, sometimes I would use too fast a speed and again the hole cutter would bind. I would release the trigger as soon as the hole cutter would bind but I am still concerned whether I did any damage to my drill. The hole cutter did a fine job making the hole and the pilot bit automatically ejected the slug. The hole cutters fit easily into the drill. The case is compact; it stores the three sizes of hole cutters, a spare pilot bit, and the hex wrench for tightening the pilot bit. The kit is made in China.

For electrical work, drilling fresh holes in breaker panel boxes is usually done with my hole saw...
For electrical work, drilling fresh holes in breaker panel boxes is usually done with my hole saw or uni-bit. I prefer the ease of the uni-bit but the heavier metal gauge of panel boxes makes tough work on both the bit and on my wrist. So, often I resort to my hole saw bits. I saw this Milwaukee hole cutter set and thought this would be the perfect solution for popping holes in the heavy gauge metal of the panel boxes. I will confess, I am thoroughly impressed. The 7/8" bit is perfect for the 1/2" EMT and Halex connectors. The hole cutter cut through the panel box with ease and a little cleaner than a hole saw. I like that each of the 3 bits already have their own pilot bit and that everything is stored in a tough positive clasp case. I really like the spring loaded pilot that pushes out the metal plug. The hole cuter cuts faster than the equivalent of a hole saw, but not quite as fast as a uni-bit, but the hole cutter is more up to the task of cutting the heavier gauge metal. The other 2 sizes should work with the common connector sizes for 1 inch and 1-1/4 inch connectors, however, I did not test the diameter with those 2 hole cutters.

The MILWAUKEE CARBIDE HOLE CUTTER KIT (4-PIECE) is a heavy duty hole saw kit. This kit is intended for cutting holes in metal, but it will also cut shallow holes into wood. Each cutter blade has a stop collar which prevents pushing through the hole and a spring loaded drill bit which pushes the cut plug out of the hole. There are three hole cutter blades in sizes of 1 3/8", 1 1/8" and 7/8". The blades are housed in a nice heavy duty molded plastic MILWAUKEE suitcase. Very nice set and I recommend this product.

I requested the Milwaukee Carbide Hole Cutter 4 piece set to round out my drill bit collection. I like that a repeatable company like Milwaukee has come up with this set. In the past drilling into steel was vertically impossible for any hole larger than 1/2" in diameter. You would have to use a hole saw bit, and if you where lucky you might get 2 hole drilled. And if you burned a hole with a torch, it would just be ugly. I like that it has a spring plug ejector so your not having to prying the plug out with a screw driver. It's nice that it has a stop shoulder to limit the depth of the hole.

I was impressed just by reading all the printing on the outside of the cardboard case cover. Milwaukee vastly improved on all of their individual metal hole saws with the cutters included in this kit. Six separate metal cutters provide almost all of the main sizes I will ever need. The carbide teeth, with the spring-loaded pilot bit will make starting the hole much easier and prevent the cutter from "walking" on the metal. The extremely sharp carbide teeth will give a smooth straight cut. I really like the stop shoulder, which limits the cut to 3/16-inch depth. This is an extremely good metal hole cutting set that will last for a long time. While it is not for hardened steel, I cannot envision myself cutting a hole in any metal that hard or that thick; primarily aluminum, copper and stainless.

Especially unique hole set. First time actually using hole saws of this type. Extremely well made for a product out of China. Cutting teeth are very strong and sturdy. Bits themselves, in my opinion need to be used at slow drill RPM's and this will assure a nice smooth cut. I found that trying to go too fast with too much force results in the bit becoming very aggressive and digging into the work. Extra pilot bit is good and the case for storing is nice also.

Cuts a clean hole and seems to be durable; however, it is very slow and the hole is slightly oversized.
