Crawling with Bugs
Stopped in to pick up a couple of bags of bird food. When I dumped the bird food in the plastic bin where I keep bird food suddenly thousands upon thousands of bugs came crawling out of the seed. It is bad enough that you have to fight through the bird crap to get clean product but you have to scare off the birds roosting in the seed area, this is unforgivable. In one purchase I lost the food, my bin and now I have to put bug traps in my car! Thanks Home Depot.

        A bird in the hand
The birds love it. The problem is that the squirrels love it too and guess who comes out ahead all the time?

The squirrels are loving their new feed house and there is being eaten rapidly. Occasionally the birds eat it too.

        Full of debris
This birdseed is full of debris (plant stems, wood chips, even some corn kernels, and really dusty. I’m disappointed in the amount of filler that is inedible for the birds and clogs the screen-type feeder we have. It’s also ridiculously hard to open. The birds like the seeds well enough, but I won’t be buying this brand again.

This seed has a little bit of debris included but I've found the same with every brand of sunflower. Overall happy with the product. This mainly attracts black capped chickadees in my yard.

This new product costs about $2 more for 11 pounds than Wagners cost for 11 or 12 pounds. The container was also loaded with useless dust that added to the weight but ends up being thrown out. I don't feel like this is a value of any kind and will be buying my black oil sunflower seed elsewhere from now on. Color me disappointed

This is a huge bag ! Bigger than I expected and will last a while. I finally starting seeing small, brown bird visitors about two weeks ago in my area. They do enjoy eating the seeds and sometimes are not able to eat the black seeds in the mix as well and make a small mess. Overall - does the job for my feeder ! Hoping to see colorful birds soon!

Cardinals bless this sunflower seed and house finches flock to it. Chickadees and juncos, too. There were no moths hatching from the bag and there is less trash (stems and other inedibles) than other brands. So it's a good value for us and there are generations of song birds thriving with it.

Sunflower seeds are a staple of my tube feeders here in the NW. My house has woods directly behind. I usually fill both tub feeders with black-oiled sunflower seeds with perhaps a smattering of "yellow seed mixes". I have a tray on one for the odd birds that are used to ground feed (like juncos and such). I usually throw in a handful of shelled peanuts for the occasional jay as well (the tub feeders hang off my house on a bracket so rats, squirrels and such cannot get to my feeder. As for these seeds, I have found that black sunflower rather than the striped varieties are more desired by birds. Further, oiled better than not. Although easy for birds to hatch open, if you have your feeders on a patio, you may want shelled bags. Be cautious though when buying no-mess seeds. The shell protects the seed and keeps it from drying out and becoming rancid. These will have a shorter shelf life. Buy bags that have a packaging date on them. Otherwise, stick to the shelled varieties like this one. My birds drained these two tube feeders in 8-9 days. In the past week, I have seen bright yellow Townsend Warblers at my feeder and a few pine siskins. These birds seldom come to a feeder with the plethora of food in the giant pines just behind me.

The Pennington Premium Black Oil Sunflower Seeds were intact and in their shells. We have lots of cardinals, doves, chickadees, and wrens eating in our feeders and they all seem happy with these seeds. There are a few twigs and debris mixed in, but it is a small amount and no more or no less than other brands. The twigs and debris were relatively small and they did not clog up our feeders. I did not find any other seeds such as corn and there was very little dust. The 10 pound bag was much easier for my wife to handle and after filling the feeders the remainder fit easily into a five gallon bucket that could be covered to keep the sunflower seeds fresh.

Black Oil Sunflower Seed seem to be the catch 22 of bird seed. If you enjoy almost instantaneous attractions to feathered friend the seed will give you what you are looking for. This however comes with a price. The birds and ground critter do not consume the shells of the seed and what is left on the ground is a mess. The seed goes fast....almost half empty feeder after the first day of putting the seed out for our bird community which is all types including unfortunately alot of black crows who chase away the beautiful colorful smaller bird.

Very excited to try this Pennington product I love seeing the birds come into my yard. Being retired this is a fun thing to do in the morning. The quality seems excellent and it didn't take much time for the birds to notice real fruit, nuts and grains is a nice positive. As with all bird seed make sure you place in a rodent free container in a shed or garage.

My husband mixes this black oil sunflower seed with a song bird seed and a fruit and nut blend. The birds really seem to enjoy this and it also helps to make the smaller bags of the special blend bird seeds last longer. Our yard has become a feeding sanctuary for all the birds in the neighborhood and we get to watch and enjoy the birds as they eat from our feeders.

This is always a popular seed with the birds so I try to keep it on hand. I have purchased sunflower seeds many times and this one had a bit more "trash" in it than usual. There were a lot of sticks and other non seed particles but I put it in my feeder and almost immediately the birds were on it. I live in a rural area and have several feeders in my yard for various types of birds, they all seem to love this mix.

I have two feeders that attract Blue Jays, Cardinals and small finches. The bigger birds like the Black oil Sunflower Seeds. They are also a favorite of the squirrels so I have to use squirrel proof feeders. Doves are too heavy for the feeders but they look for droppings with the squirrels. The birds don't go through the seeds as fast as the used to and sometimes large bages get bugs in them and go bad. I hope that will not be the case with this brand. It is hard to get photos of the birds outside because they scatter but you can see the view from or den window.

This Pennington Premium 10 lbs. of Black Oil Sunflower Bird Seed is what you would expect from a name like Pennington. The feed is of a much higher quality than some discount mix that slip in various grit birds won’t touch (like you might find in other, lesser known brands). High quality Black Oil Seed is expensive so you don’t want to buy a bunch of debris you don’t need. Problem solved. This top rate Pennington feed is superior in that it is clean and few if any sticks, twigs or things we don’t need when feeding. The typical clogging of feeder tubes and feeders in general is completely avoided with Pennington Premium 10 lbs. Black Oil Sunflower Bird Seed because of the lack of sticks and dried corn. Your birds will love it and you can expect to attract cardinals, blue jays, black birds, woodpeckers, you name it. After all, Black Oil sunflower is the king of bird feed at my ranch! This 10-pound bag is perfect for any small to medium feeder or platform. Good stuff and highly recommended!

The birds absolutely LOVE these Pennington Black Oil Sunflower seeds! Even in the winter, the birds around my home flock to the feeder. The seeds are nice and plump so I know why the birds love them! But, a word of caution... they must be so good because the neighborhood squirrels also flock to the bird feeders. Guess they are hungry too! I live in the mountains, so I do bring my feeders in a night so the bears don't get them. Highly recommend these seeds!
