I found this device did not react quickly to natural gas or propane even in high sensitivity mode. My first test was to release propane into my barbeque grill without ignition. I smelled the propane before the meter detected it. I sparked the igniter and a large ball of fire erupted from all of the gas that was present. I then tried natural gas on my stove top. Once again I smelled the gas before the detector started identifying gas. I even tried a cheap stick detector from another manufacturer side by side with the Ridgid product and it detected natural gas before the Ridgid showed any detection. As a result, I question the ability of this unit to find small leaks. The battery cover is extremely tight and I had to pry it off with a screw driver. Since the clip is plastic it is bound to break. Perhaps I received a defective unit, but based on my results, I cannot recommend this product.

The addition of a mute button for the audible output is welcomed and the vibrate function is good and strong. Start up and self-calibration takes about a minute and the long flexible sensor is easily positioned and stiff enough to stay put. The plastic body is good quality but the battery compartment cover was very stiff and I had to leverage the clasp using a pair of pliers to get it open. I guess this is because potential sparks from batteries and certain gases don’t mix very well. In other words a safety feature! The readout screen is very clear and the gas detection bars represent detection rates from 40 parts per million (ppm) to 6,400 ppm. There is a CD in the kit containing the operations manual in 22 different languages. The full multi language manual can also be downloaded too. The manual and the gas detector fit snugly inside the protective cover that also has belt loops so the tool is always near to hand.

I have been gas engineer over two years and I did purchase gas sniffer from well knowing company and I was not happy with it. After doing some research I have purchased Micro CD 100 and Brilliant. Especially changing sensitivity setting makes life easier for me.

I’m trying to locate a septic gas leak that comes and goes. In the past, I’ve had success with this type of detector. This one seems not to notice gas even though it’s strong enough for me to smell. Takes a minute to calibrate and annoyingly shuts itself off every few minutes WHILE you’re using it, so you have to go back outside for another minute to recalibrate. After a dozen of these events, you’re getting frustrated.

Performs exactly as advertised. The vibration and visual alert is particularly handy in noisy mechanical rooms full of loud equipment.

I manage Luxury Real Estate in Greenwich Ct. the realtor called me into an $8 Million dollar home on a report of an odor. They thought it was a dead misuse or something? I traced it to a gas manifold hidden behind a cabinet in the basement with 12 shutoff valves one for every gas appliance in the home. I turned my meter on and not only confirmed the presence of has but with the probe I was able to identify the exact pipe out of 12 that was leaking? Called the FD Who brought in their $8000 meter and confirmed what my $400 Rigid meter had identified! Completely saved the day and avoided a major tragedy!!!

The gas detector works great.

This device gives false alarm when there is no gas present. I used my friend’s less expensive gas detector.

Product works perfectly, even though start up is a little slow. Seems to be made extremely tough too.

Would not detect methane gas easily. Got one at a third the price and twice as sensitive. UEI brand

I have tried other brand gas detectors; so far Ridgid micro CD-100 is the best one among them. It is easy to use and detect gas leak accurately.

Fantastic electronic option. I tried it on 27 connection points and no indication of leaks. I had a friend create a very small leak without me knowing where it was at. That was the best testimonial I can give this detector. It would be painstaking if not impossible to do liquid testing of all the connections. Initial calibration of the detector is a cinch, and anyone can use it. Also, the flexibility and 16 inch length of the probe makes it easy to reach in many areas - especially basement ceilings. You can reach around open trusses, and into areas you may never be able to reach by other methods. The enclosed CD for the operators manual is awesome! The sensor does have a 5 year approximate life span and is replaceable. This is a must have tool for anyone who does any work with gas lines, or even a homeowner wanting peace of mind, but checking furnace, range, water heater, dryer, and anything with a gas line - especially flex lines which may be disturbed.

I have used a Bacharach leak detector for years - not a bad unit, but it has always been the one and only tool on my truck that uses C batteries. This Ridgid unit is powered by 4 - AA batteries, which is very convenient. Battery door is easy access (unlike my Bacharach), and doesn't have an unnecessary set screw to worry about. Sensor picks up on gas leaks pretty quickly - I have been seeing sensor readings with a turnaround time of about one second. Hi/Lo sensitivity is easy to switch. Body is much smaller than other detectors, which makes it more convenient in the tool bag. Great product!

Excellent device to have. When I moved into the new house we often smelled gas, The connections were not leaking at all so the soap, even the leak detector solution would not find this issue, there was a defect in the stove. What I like the best about this device is the long reach and flexible head. With this configuration I can reach down in back of the stove as well as under it to find the leaks. The response time is quick and the fact you can use Audio, Visual and / or vibrate to alert you. Sometimes it is difficult to see, hear or feel the alerts, think heavy gloves, loud environments, or reaching behind things. It does need to warm up a bit, 50 seconds or so. Definitely a must have when working with combustible gases, leaks can kill.

I purchased the Rigid Micro CD-100 gas detector to verify and find a natural gas leak. The detector is very sensitive during calibration. You must calibrate in clean air far from a suspected gas source. Once calibrated the gas detector works fine. I moved slowly from suspected source to another. Sampling seamed a bit slow at first but i became accustomed to the sample rate. The unit reports data using 3 senses, visual, audio and vibration. I found the audio and visual very useful. The visual report has multi step bar depending on the concentration. It is correlated to ppm.

the product is built very good,and would buy again if it was stolen or lost.it seems to be very fast detecting leaks.the carrying case needs to be longer so you don,t have to bend the sensor cable too much to put it away,ridgid builds very good products.

This product work very good and easy to use except for the battery compartment door. That's why I rated it lower. The compartment door is hard to open and close and therefore may not last long or not latch properly.

This is a really nice unit. I do a lot of natural gas fireplaces and run black pipe and flex on many projects. This tool really gives me a piece of mind when I can check my work after turn the gas on in a residence that I've worked on. My coworkers have pricier units and to be honest the Ridgid performs equal if not better.
