Garbage
I bought this trimmer at Home Depot last season. I bought the tree trimming attachment. It worked just fine the first time I used it. I sold my Troy Built trimmer because this one was newer. That was a huge mistake. I have not yet had a pleasant starting experience with this piece of junk since the first time it was used. Several times I have brought this out to trim and edge my yard after mowing. More often than not, the sun will set as I am yanking away tryimg to crank this disappointment. I have been so irritated with this device that I may never buy a ryobi product again. Off to find a replacement that actually works. Please save yourself the frustration and find another product, preferably another brand!

    Better options available
BLUF: If you value your time and money, don't bother with this product. I've had this trimmer for about 6 months now and it has been average at best. The Expand-It attachments are a convenient feature, but there are several short-comings with performance. The engine will stall if the gas tank isn't near full and the tool is turned at various angles, a common action needed when weed trimming or using the chain-saw attachment. The plastic handle on the pull-string start broke as it was retracting back into place. Recently, I noticed the trimmer line was fusing to itself (known as line "welding") but also to the plastic bump feed head! I literally had to pry the line off of the bump feed head because it was melted and gouged into the plastic. Ryobi support has been less than helpful. Over the phone they told me to take it to a home depot service center for inspection, which costs $20 just to have the machine looked at. I also submitted a request via Ryobi's online support system (ticket #72887205, if you're reading this Ryobi). several weeks ago and never received a response, despite their claim of responding within 2 days. Trying to find a resolution to fix these issues has been frustrating and a waste of my time. It would have been so easy for Ryobi to simply back their tool, send me a replacement bump feed head, and win me over as a loyal customer. Instead, their lack of support made it a no-brainer for me to put the dollars that would have gone to servicing this less than 6-month old tool towards a new Echo SRM-225. Let me tell you, it has been worth every penny.

      Ample power and versatility.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this after I got tired of dead batteries of the last trimmer before the job was done. I plan on getting a lot of use out of this trimmer seeing that I'm new to the landscaping business. on the first start up it sounds and feels strong, just what I needed to power through pesky medium shrubs around the fence line.

        Used to work great
I purchased this trimmer about a month and a half ago. I was using it last night for normal use and noticed a bend in the shaft where you connect the trimmer attachment. After taking the attachment off to see what the was causing it to bend it wouldn’t catch the receiver Inside the shaft and spin the trimmer head.

            Power!
Out of the box, huge difference going from the Ryobi 40v to the 2 cycle gas trimmer (faulty battery shenanigans...If you know, you know). I only tried it out for about 10 minutes. Today is the 4th of july and I wanted to relax:) Man oh man this thing wanted to keep going and chew everything in sight. Immediately impressed so far. Cant wait to put it to work on my small yard tomorrow. Edger attachment from the 40v attaches perfectly. If this 2 cycle doesnt perform very well, falls apart in less than a year or explodes, i’ll update the review

              Great on all trimming
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the 2 cycle straight shaft trimmer about a month ago. Compared to curved shaft hands down the straight shaft is better. Compared to other brands that I’ve owned hands down this is the best trimmer I’ve ever purchased. The jobs I do demand long running and hard trimming. This trimmer has paid for itself. It works so good I went out and punched a new Ryobi pressure washer. Can’t wait to use that too. It’s a shame the review only goes to 5 star. I think this should be a 10. Thanks Ryobi for making a good sound trimmer that works as hard as I do.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just bought this and it is easy to set up so you can get to work fast. Comes with some trimmer line to get you started. Have not tried the new feel easy speed winder yet but it looks easy to use, the only thing I am worried about is miss placing the crank.

I actually like the blower; however I purchased this on May 17, 2020 and used it twice. Both times, the 50:1 fuel/oil mix has leaked from the blower. I think it's leaking from where the fuel line connects to the blower. Also, the handle on the blower is really loose, despite tightening the screws. The trimmer is heavy, but it works well so far. I will have to return the blower it due to this leaking. I'm not interested in having to repair a new item so quickly.

This weed eater runs quieter than other brands I have used. I own a mowing business and use the weed eater for longer than an hour, multiple times a week. Other brands I have used have left my hands tingly for quite a long time after using them. Ryobi leaves minimal tingling after long periods of use.

                    Works great!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased this as a gift to myself and i love taking care of my lawn. Trimming edges and areas where a mower cant go. And the myriad of attachments that you can buy using the same motor. Purchased the saw attachment.

                      Stronger than I expected
I've got about a half an acre on the side of a mountain overgrown with waist high vegetation. Bought the 18" straight line for mainly keeping up directly around my house but decided to see how it would handle in the big stuff. It had more than enough power to tackle the various grasses, weeds and occasional saplings that were roughly waist high (I'm 6'3"). Overall very happy so far. Even at my high altitude it fired up really

Great trimmer at a great price
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For 25cc's this trimmer works great! It has plenty of power for what I needed. I let my weeds get a bit too long, about 3 feet, and needed to get them cut asap. Even though they were high, this trimmer handled it well and made easy work of them. It was thick grass as well growing in the bottom of a wet creek area. Had the power and handled business. O, and not to heavy either.

                          Shaft broke
Very disappointed. I had extensively researched trimmers before purchasing my Ryobi. I saw that it had a few minor issues from time to time but it "appeared" they had a nice 3year warranty and worked to fix problems. After only owning the trimmer for less than 8 months, the upper shaft broke. I immediately emailed Ryobi but was unable to view the response I received 72hrs later, through there website. Since I was unable to excess the message I was forced to call which I wanted to avoid doing, so I called. I was informed there was no place in the area for it to be repaired or even looked at. I was responsible to ship the item 2500+ miles so they could look at it and maybe do something(the cost to ship it would be approximately half the cost to purchase a new product. This was clearly from a manufactures defect in the shaft material. I am now out almost $200 dollars and have a useless weed eater. Warranties are useless if they refuse to honor them. I strongly recommend finding another brand as I will do with all of my future purchases. I was going to purchase several other Ryobi products in addition to all the ones I already own but I have since changed my mind.

I like the weedeater. I have an acre yard so after weedeating and edging and blowing the plastic on the inside melts then it wont spin the shaft that turns the head. I have went through 2 of them and now on to the 4 stroke hoping its built a little better.

Solution to all of my trimming/edging needs!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product has exceeded my expectations as far as edging my yard and maintaining other parts! I was able to have my groom my yard to the point where it was left looking as if it were professionally done. The unit is very inexpensive and POWERFUL! I love the fact you can buy other attachments, which makes this the most versatile piece of yard equipment I’ve ever owned! I was able to remove all the weeds that had been plaguing my driveway for years! The only issue I had was just starting it up on the first use, which was not clear in the instructions. I called in and there was a friendly representative that got me up and going in no time. I think I am a fan of this brand now because of the pricing ad the quality they produce! My garage is currently mostly orange with Black and Decker product but it will soon but transitioning to neon green with Ryobi products moving forward!

First of all, this is my 4th Ryobi trimmer motorhead. They last me about 3-4 years each, but I do have a lot of properties and use it several times a week. The motorheads have definitely improved each time and I highly recommend. The new string attachment is another story. In order to add new string, you need to line up an arrow printed on the bottom of the spool. You know: the thing you bump on the concrete sidewalk at a high rotation speed to advance the string? Anyway, within a couple weeks that arrow had long ground off. Do yourself a huge favor. Take a sharpie marker and mark on the SIDES of the spool so you can line it up to add string. And the handle to wind the new string into the spool? It will be useless after 2 months, but if you just put on a glove, you can hand wind it twice as fast anyway. I'll be looking forward to Ryobi's version 2.0 of this string trimmer spool.
