Used two stiffeners to support a quarter inch thick desk top. The included screws were a little long, so had to cut a couple of eighth inch plywood strips to mount it underneath without screwing all the way through the desk. The desk top rests on two filing cabinets with a little over 60" span, is sturdy, and is holding up well a month or so in.

I used these to stiffen up a couple of pantry shelves that were sagging. The only lengths were 46" and 60" and my shelves were 32" wide, so the latter size was the clear choice for what I wanted providing 2 stiffeners per shelve. I cut each stiffener in half which was no problem with a hack saw. In addition, I drilled two more holes near the cut to have a symmetric hole layout to ensure the load was spread out evenly. I installed 2 on each shelve spacing them out in thirds and putting screws in all 8 holes to maximize the stiffness. They worked great straightening out both shelves and making them much stiffer. No more sagging pantry shelves hopefully forever or at least until I disappear! :-)
