Too early to tell whether this water heater is a 5 star rating. Install was easy, setup was easy, seems to work well but it's only been a month since it was installed. Hopefully the 12 year warranty will keep me from buying another one for a while!

In as much as my first Rheem heater only lasted...
In as much as my first Rheem heater only lasted 3 years, it’s premature to rate this one. My first started a fire. The thermostat failed and caused a fire melting plastic and foam. It was warranted but it cost me 300 dollars to get the new one installed.

Nothing but a headache so far
Hot water heater came out of the box completely dented up. Then there was a leak at the top of the unit when it was installed by the plumber. He installed it and we had to leave for an overnight trip. When we got home, no hot water. He came and did something, which made it work for thirty minutes before it blew the 15amp fuses. HD was closed so now this morning we're going to get 20 amp fuses and see what happens. This isn't over yet. I'm sure if it.

Design or manufacturing flaw?
Tank drain and pressure relief are 180° out placing the tank with the drain away from the wall means rthe presure relief is against the wal ad you can't place a bucket under it to drain the suggested "severa gallons" of water. I had to construct a pipe system using 1/2" PVC with mutiple elbows to brng the water around to my utility sink added hours to the install.

The worst product I have ever seen
The first one leaked and caused the trip of breaker and got second one replaced after dozens of calls. But the second leaked from the inside and behind the LED panel. We have to open the cover to check the sponges all the time. This is the replacement and we just go it in a week. This is an absolutely deficient model or the company is ruining their reputation with deficient products.

Here's the fix if your brand new heater leaks too
Brand new heater had a leak. Rheem phone support suggested I check the factory-installed anode rod. This rod should be installed with about 75 foot pounds of torque, but after I dug out the insulation, I found the factory never tightened the anode rod - it was finger tight!
Partially drained tank, removed rod, teflon taped the threads, and reinstalled, and all good.
Horrible quality control, clearly was never pressure tested at the factory. Kudos for their phone support though.

Leaking Junk!!
Bought Rheem because I thought they were top quality…boy was i wrong. Due to factory defects, it cost me almost double the normal labor because a plumber had to come out numerous times!! Leaking pressure valve, leaking inlets, leaking heating elements!! Ridiculous!! These are garbage…now ive gotta take it back and pay to have another new unit installed!!!

Less then Three weeks old
Bought our electric Rheem hot water tank on 10/13/2022 and we have already blown two heating elements. I’m a single family home. We have contacted support more then once about this issue. We downgraded from a 50g to a 40g. Buying this heating was a mistake. Still no hot water. Still waiting for support to contact back. My family owns our home and never have we had such a problem with this kind of hot water tank. Supposed to last you 3-10 years and this wasn’t even a month! Very disappointed.

Water pour out after installation. Frustrated.
I bought the water heater at 3 pm and finished the installation at 7:30. The non-stop hard work turned out to be a frustration. Water poured out from the hole sitting the releasing valve. By no means does it relate to the installation. Isn't Rheem a name brand? But why? My bad. If it weren't because of the leak, I would not see these comments. I always trust Rheem.

The hot water heater itself works great. Perfect fit etc. I had a guy lined up, took off work and the item had a vertical dent all the way down. I couldn’t be without hot water bc I’m a massage therapist and have to have hot water. So used the dinged ip on anyway. That’s my one and only complaint.

New heater leaked rigth from the start
After the installation, I filled the tank and purged the air out of it but there was a water leak from the heater itself. I determined the water was coming out where the wires go into the heater (see photos). They are only about 30 seconds in time apart. Notice the increase in water in just 30 seconds. Good thing I saw the leak before I switched on the circuit breaker. I could have been electrocuted! H-D exchanged it but I wasted 50 gallons of water and 2 hours time on that heater on it.

Leaks.
Bought this unit and hooked it up. Started spraying water out of the top of the tank somewhere, it was pouring out the top the heating element housing. (Not the element itself). Brought it back to Home Depot where they made the process very quick and easy. Brought the new one home hooked it up. Now it’s dripping out of the heating elements. We tried tightening them (even though we should not have to do that) still leaks. We will not be exchanging this one and we will be going somewhere else.

Hot water heater burst
The water heater burst and literally split right after the 6-year warranty expired! It broke the wall and water poured out of it and onto the floor. Rheem should be ashamed.

Ordered this water heater on a Sunday. Home Depot delivered it the next morning (a holiday no less). Easy to install. Clear instructions. Within 20 minutes of filling the unit, we had hot water coming from our taps.

Performing good so far but it’s only been a couple...
Performing good so far but it’s only been a couple months. The unit was scratch free, dent free. I am glad Home Depot carry this trust brand. The ease of curb side pickup was good for a heavy product. Saves time and the Home Depot workers helped with the loading of the unit.

It Leaks
Like everyone else I should have read the reviews first. It appears quality control at Rheem has fallen. My guess would be no one pressure checks these before we ship them out the door. Upon completion of installation and filling the tank the water leaks out the cold inlet side of the tank. This causes me to cut the soldiered copper pipe to tighten what should have been tightened and inspected at the factory. The water temperature was set at the factory at 90 which seems a bit low. While both fixes were easy for me I shouldn't have to fix a brand new product.

Two year lifespan
I've bought 2 of these in last 4 years. Elements blow year 1 and tank leaks at year 2. Getting an AO Smith this time even though will have to modify cabinet.

Upgraded After Reading Reviews
I was going to buy the less expensive water heater, but after reading the reviews I upgraded to the Performance Plus with LED indicators. A friend of mine helped me install this and he had to divert the copper pipes to get it to fit as the old one was a lot narrower than these. After installing and checking for leaks, he adjusted the temp up 5 degrees then turned the power back on. This thing is very efficient and quiet! I will be saving 1000kwh a year with this water heater.

Beware of hidden gap in junction box insulation.
Beware of hidden insulation gap in junction box insulation. Water discharged through this hole and made its way down to the drain pan with the outside of the water heater completely dry. I discovered this 1"+ insulation gap, and when I called Rheem about it, I was given a hard time and accused of improper installation, even though the hidden insulation gap has nothing to do with installation the water connections. Hopefully Rheem will pick up their appliance and deliver a new appliance.
