Had a pro install it works great water really gets hot now best water heater ever well worth the money.

$1,000. for this heater/supply lines (delivery was $55 though the site said free), delivered with the heater lying horizontal on its side. Unit had obviously been dropped and was dented, crumpled, and damaged. Customer NOT happy, holiday weekend, needed hot water, so, no option of a return / replacement. Disassembled, bumped out to satisfaction. After install, water leak TPR valve! Swapped out and it stopped leaking. Extra hours and gave the customer a $200 cash discount. Bad day!

Both hot water heaters were shipped damaged. Sipped on side and not protected. Even if its not HD fault, requirements need to be made for shipping.

my old water heater failed right after the warranty ran up and obviously I needed to replace it immediately. There were lots of options but I settled on this one as it was a direct swap replacement making it easier on me since I am not a plumber. Took a couple hours, otherwise not too difficult to do on your own. homeowner approved!

This water heater was installed in November 2021 and it has already failed after just 22 months. It's rusted at all seams at the bottom and is leaking. I have never heard of a water heater rusting through so fast. Sadly, I paid a plumber to install it and now will pay another plumber to remove it, return it to Home Depot and install another water heater. This was a costly bad mistake with Rheem.

The last Rheem water heater I had was over 12 years old before it started leaking because of something I did. So now it was time to replace it and I went out and bought another Rheem water heater. What I liked about this one was how easy it was to install, and hook up, and I am 76 years old. But what I really liked about this model was the ease of firing up the pilot light by simply keeping the pilot light button depressed while pushing the button below it several times until the blue light starts blinking. Once the blue light is blinking it signifies the pilot light is lit and you just turn the knob to where it says Hot, and you're done. No more lighting the pilot light with a match, just push the buttons and wait for the blue light to start blinking, got to love it. Once it was installed and fired up it only took about 30 minutes for the water to be warm enough to go take a shower.

I install water heaters for a living. I installed a rheem gas water heater from home depot in my home in 2017 and it's leaking all over the basement now. A water heater should last longer than 6 years. Very unhappy.

Run from this water heater! The burner was defective when I unboxed. Rheems 1 warranty plumber for San Diego, wouldn’t take the job. I had to find a plumber, then be reimbursed. There are no local parts for a water heaters. The part had to come from the East Coast. They expect you to pay for overnight shipping. Now I’m waiting 6 to 10 weeks to be reimbursed after this process I found an ad on offer up, which shows they have a warehouse of refurbished Rheem water heaters. Bad quality control.

Unit installed in my house in JAN 2021. On APR 7, 2023 the drain valve broke while nobody was around. The garage got flooded, and shoes, boxes, and other personal items damaged by the dozens of gallons that poured out. By the way, I realized this is the first water heater I've seen with a drain valve made of plastic. To add insult to injury, the customer service told me the warranty is only "a new drain valve", nothing else. What else is going to fail before its 6-yr limit?

It was almost perfect, just a bit wider than i wanted but it works fine and doe what it needs to do.

I bought a 40 gallon 38000 BTU hot water heater by Rheem from Home Depot less then five years ago. It is already leaking from the base. The warranty is crap as is the Rheem hot water heater! Do not buy Rheem. I made a mistake that you can avoid. A piece of garbage in a box. Zero stars should be the rating.

Bought this on 4/09/18 at local HD in Garden Grove with 5 yrs protection plan. On 12/1522 it stopped working with indicator light blinks RED 7 times -> "Gas Control or Valve Failure" and i filed claim immediately. After over 2 weeks of dealing with HD warranty protection service and still haven't got my water heater fixed. The extended warranty (Asurion) is such a scam, DO NOT BUY IT. And this water heater breaks just after 4 years. Look for some other one. Avoid the troubles.

The FIRST LEAK was a steady dry from the cheap, plastic drain valve as soon as we filled the tank. We tightened up the the drain valve fitting and that partially solved the problem, although there was still discernible moisture at the point were the fitting enters the tank. The SECOND LEAK occurred a week later as a steady leak from the hot water outlet nipple down, into the drip pan that then overflowed onto the garage floor. Rheem customer service was nice enough; told me to take it back to HD and that they would pay $550 for reinstallation of anorther Rheem water heater. Instead, I got a full refund from HD, and installed a Bradford White H2O heater instead. Home Depot -- find a higher quality product to sell. Rheem -- put better quality components into your H2O heaters.

I purchased this water tank to replace my 25 year old GWS! I hope I have the same luck! Easy to install, quite, great value, fast heating and tons of hot water! I would highly recommend this unit for purchase! The Home Depot was the best to deal with! Great job!

After having our other water heater for 19 years, we finally had to replace it. Purchased this supposedly “professional” Rheem water heater and now 2 years later pilot keeps turning off. Called a plumber for an estimate and it was more than the heater, $1,100. Never buying this brand again. Cheap appliances now a days.

Excellent Product. The heat sink nipples included with the water heater does it job. The ease of lighting the pilot with the blinking blue light on the thermostat takes the guesswork out if the pilot is lite. Suggestion is to add 1-1/2" high pavers as base for water heater versus just sitting on the concrete floor.

I do not recommend Rheem. I bought a 75 gal performance water heater from Home Depot 3years ago. Unfortunately, the heater was already 3years old when HD sold it to me. It was new and in the box, but old stock. After 3 years of use and almost 6 years to the day from when it was built ( 10/2015) the tank began to leak and extinguished the flame and pilot. Disappointing product and service.

Purc at Home Depot Mar 2019. Rheem 9 yr XG40T09EN38U1 40 gal gas h2o heater . Started smelling gas near the unit Feb 2021.Rheem sent 2 parts;we pd $450 & $567 installation. Still smells gas. Rheem sd to drain & tke bck to H Depot & they MAY exchge it.

Our old water heater started leaking so we needed a new hot water heater fast and luckily Home Depot was able to get out the next day. The installer sent by Home Depot was great and did a great job. Unfortunately, the unit is not even a week old and the water heater stopped working. The pilot is on then turns off. We turn it on then it shuts off again. Of course my husband comes home dirty from work and now has no hot water for a shower. This is the second defective major home appliance we have purchased that is defective. We are NEVER using home depot again.

My maintenance man installed unit. If there were any issues, he would have relayed that information

Been waited 10 days for a part to come to "fix" the very stupid gas controller... that our plumber "Friendly Plumbers" in Salt Lake City "ordered" the part that hasn't arrived... I have to light it twice a day till real help arrives... what a joke. If these units are nightmares and nothing but trouble like the installer said, why don't they stock parts for this silly thing? Big company fail...

Water heater was fabricated 2/13/20 Purchased 3/20 Thermostat failed 7/20 Rheem charges $30 shipping unless you want cold showers for 5 days Thermostat failed again 8/20... gonna be a fun phone call in the morning

Excellent performance for our 3 person home. Even after three showers back to back, still plenty of hot water. Easy temperature control with its convenient panel location.

It's a good water heater but I really think it's a very bad idea to have a completely flat bottom. There is no standoff or even rim to pull the metal bottom off the floor. This means even a small amount of moisture has no way of easily evaporating. Most other heaters have legs or ridges to allow air circulation. Hopefully it won't rust. Overall I like the reem products but this seems like a crucial flaw.

I installed water heater with existing 20" pan and front water heater guard panel wouldn't fit with small pan. Purchased 22" drain pan and front guard panel went on with ease. New water heater was 2" taller than my old 2003 40 gallon water heater. Made top hoses a problem to install without kinks. Had to go with shorter upper hoses. Water heater works great and comes with a 12 year warranty. I also bought extended warranty for added 5 years.

This is my second Rheem 9-year water heater. The first one lasted exactly 11 years. After having help lifting it to the pedestal, the rest was easy to install by myself. This water heater comes with dielectric in and out pipe nipples already installed as well as a T&P valve already installed. All one has to purchase is new gas connecting flex line and in and out water flex connectors. (I used one of the old water flex lines to connect the T&P discharge to the outside drain line). After bleeding the air out of the gas line, it lit with no problems. My old chimney stack was the same as the new so I did not mess with the exhaust stack, just fitted it back into place. This was slightly wider than the original 'Rheem' so the earthquake straps were 2 inches too short. I improvised and just bought 6-inch carriage bolts to replace the 4-inch ones. It is always nice to have hot water! I highly recommend this water heater! It has already proven itself the first time around 11 years ago!

just installed a couple of weeks ago, everything seems to be working great. I started on the high setting but it was to hot so now it's set on low which it great, way more efficient that my 20 yr old one. When you light the pilot the first time you need to look upwards through the glass window to see that it's lit.
