It sounds like you have some concerns with setting your device up. You will want to be sure to install and set up your Ring Bridge before installing and setting up your Ring Smart Lights. You will need to have a Ring Bridge installed and set up in order to connect your Ring Smart Lights to the Ring app and the rest of your Ring devices.

Ring Smart Lighting Solar products require a Ring Bridge to be tied into your Ring system. The Ring Bridge connects to the Ring app using your home wifi network and connects to other Ring Smart Lighting products using a proprietary long-range communication protocol.

Without the Ring Bridge, your steplights function only as standard motion-sensing lights. With a Bridge, you can control whole groups of lights at once and be notified via the Ring app when any light or Motion Sensor senses movement.

Hello Flipdit, While you cannot add another battery for the Solar Steplight, you can always take those devices inside for a quick charge using the micro-USB cable whenever you need to. Hello RingIsOk, There are several possibilities that could cause the device to go unresponsive. Check the following items: Check your batteries. Check your Auto Shut Off control in your device controls in the Ring app. You may have incorrectly set the time on the control. Take yourself out of the equation. Leave the area for 10 minutes to give the lights time to reset without you triggering them, and then return and check the lights. Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring Step Light experience with us. We are pleased to hear that your interactions with our support team have been pleasant. We understand the importance of having the batteries last in your home’s environment, so these support calls are not necessary. Rest assured, we are here to provide you with information to resolve your concern. 

To get the most life out of your batteries, Ring recommends using standard alkaline batteries in your Ring Smart Lighting devices. Rechargeable batteries will work in your Ring Step Light, though they may not last as long as alkaline batteries. Heavy-duty batteries should not be used in the Ring device. Lithium batteries will also work in your Ring Step Light and are recommended when the weather is cold. The specific type of battery our Ring Smart Lights use is called a Bottom Top 18650 3.7V Lithium-ion Battery. Customers can expect about a year of battery life when they keep the brightness at 50% and have the lights activate in 30 second intervals.
