Very versatile Charger
I have several battery chargers. One big problem I have found is that the totally electronic automatic charger will not charge a battery if it is really low. I have to take out an old transformer based charger and give the low battery a boost and then hook up the automatic charger. If I leave the old charger on I have to closely monitor the charge status to prevent the charger from over-charging the battery. This charger will still charge a low battery. It will start with a 20 amp boost and then when appropriate switch to the automatic mode. The instructions seem kind of complex when you first read them but once you get familiar with the unit it seems very logical and straightforward. Since this charger has a actual transformer rather than just electronic it is quite heavy but that is a small price to pay for its versatility.

Superb unit
This Schumacher 2 amp charger/maintenance tender is a great value. Easy to use. It auto adjusts for 6 or 12 volt. Will auto adjust to charge or maintain a battery for storage. LED indicator will show in charge or maintenance mode. Great of units that have a lot of parasitic draw due to a multitude of electronics. Comes with a quick connect or a more permanent eyelet attachment with a quick disconnect built in.

Schumacher Pro Automotive 12-Volt Battery Charger and 80-Amp Engine Starter
The Schumacher Pro Automotive 12-Volt Battery Charger and 80-Amp Engine Starter with Maintainer and Boost Mode is an all-in-one unit that will provide plenty of juice in the garage or where you have a 110/120 VAC. It functions automatically and provides the amount of current to bring a dead battery back to its normal voltage and maintain it at peak voltage. Schumacher Electric is a brand I trust. Ample cords and cables can reach a total of 12 feet from a receptacle to the battery. 6 feet of jumper and 6 feet of power cable.

Between 3 and 4 I am just not sure .
I was initially excited about this product. I am all about preventative maintenance whenever I can. The picture for this product is definitely misleading, or maybe I had incorrect expectations. The "Schumacher Electric - Schumacher Electric Schumacher Pro Automotive 6-Volt/12-Volt 2-Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer with Auto Voltage Detection", comes with everything you need, as long as you have time. It is very small. I am going to use it some more before I make a final decision.

Instructions are lacking
The Schumacher Pro Fully Automatic 12-Volt Battery Charger can charge batteries and start cars. It has an 80-amp engine start mode and can charge batteries at 6 amp/ 2-amp rate or with a 20-amp boost rate. I used this charger to jump start several riding lawnmowers that I use. It is automatic so it adjusts the rate during charging. It can also be used in the “float” mode to ensure that the battery is charged and ready to use and not damaged. It has a reverse hook-up protection, and bad battery detection. It has long cables to get to those hard-to-reach batteries. The instructions appear to be written for more than one model or just poorly. Maybe the buttons and lights on the face are obvious to the younger generation but being in my 60s, I struggled with how to use the changer. There are easier ones to use.

Nice Modern Charger
This Schumacher Electric Schumacher Pro Automotive 6-Volt/12-Volt, 8-Amp/2-Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer with Auto Voltage Detection is a nice device. I have three old 12-amp battery chargers and maintain twelve 12-volt batteries and one 6-volt battery. Three of those are in regular daily use. The others are occasional or seasonal use. My old chargers are 12-amp/2-amp devices and appropriate selections must be manually set before using. All are compact but heavy. This charger is compact, lightweight, and fully automatic. Just connect it to the battery and plug it in. It checks to see if the connection is reversed or okay, if the battery is viable and then sets the charge voltage and rate as needed. If you leave it connected it will change to maintain mode to keep the battery full without overcharging, a very helpful feature for a boat, tractor or classic car battery that spends a lot of time waiting for a different season. I found the indicator lights to be confusing but basically red is bad, orange is okay/good and bluegreen is okay/all finished.

The charger works
I received the Schumacher battery charger and maintainer in good condition. It’s only about 6 inches in width. There are no buttons or controls. It is made in China. The warranty is for one year. This charger is meant for smaller batteries, such as used in motorcycles, jet skis, or riding lawn equipment. I don’t think I would use it on a weak car or truck battery since the maximum charging rate is relatively low. I expect this will serve well as a battery maintainer or to top off a battery periodically. The maximum charging rate is 2 A. It comes with several connectors, here for attachment to batteries. I hooked this up to a battery on my zero turn mower, and after a few seconds it detected the battery and started to charge with an orange indicator. Upon completion of the charge, a green indicator shows fully charged. The device automatically detects if you’re charging a 6 or 12 volt battery. I have not owned this long enough to be able to determine the longevity or durability, but I expect good service in my garage.

Compact Charger with Good Safety Features
The safety features of this charger are really handy in the real world. Anyone can make a mistake and this unit watches for them and then flags the error. The clamps won't spark, accidental reverse hook up is called out and the battery voltage and current charge are automatically detected. The comprehensive instructions cover all the risks and how to deal with or, better still, avoid them. Charging is a slow affair; my mowing tractor battery wouldn't turn the engine over at 11.7 Volts. Once connected the charger went to work and it was charging for over six hours and the green light still didn't come on. Measuring the charge showed a whopping 13.36 Volts! More than enough to start the engine. The trickle top up of the car battery faired better at only four hours before going green at 12.91 Volts. This charger is great for maintaining battery charge.

Nice small charger for longer term storage and other uses
I thought this would be good for ATV's or other items that get used for s season then not used much for several months, depending on the situations. I did do a test on an older battery and because the charge was so low, it would not charge with this charger because of the Smart technology. I would have to use a dumb charger on that. It started, but failed after a couple hours. The technology is nice for leaving it connected for maintaining for long periods of time so that it monitors and goes into float and not overcharge and ruin the battery that way. This is a very small and simple charger with just 3 light indicators. The first to the left is a red indicator that will warn you if you hook the battery up backwards (blinks) or if there is a charging failure (solid red). The middle is yellow showing that it is in charging mode and the right is green showing the charge is completed or full. Nice little unit for basic charging needs and a dumb charger is not needed.

6Volt/12Volt Battery Charger and Maintainer
The charger has a variable between 8 AMP and 2 AMPs. It will charge a 6 volt battery or a more popular 12 volt battery automatically. No adjustments to the charger it does it automatically, in case you would forget,. It monitors the battery when it is full and automatically shuts off, so it doesn't over charge. It you accidently cross the positive and negative clamps it does not short the battery it indicates what you have done so you can change them. Very capable charger and maintainer.

Good charger for maintenance of your batteries
Schumacher Pro Automotive 6-Volt/12-Volt 2-Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer with Auto Voltage Detection, I use a lot of battery maintainers and chargers at my place. I have a lot of machines that are used year round even though the weather gets cold here for months and without them I would have to replace a lot of expensive batteries every year. This charger was easy to use hook it up and plug it in, in about 20 seconds the charger tests the battery for proper voltage, whether 6 volt or 12 volt. It also looks at the condition of the battery as well. It has 3 lights on the face of the charger. Red, bad battery or voltage too low, yellow is charging, green is charge complete. Low cost, Hassel free, good charger overall.

Great charger
This charger arrives just in time for us to give it a try. Our son came home on fall break and left his interior lights on in his car overnight and killed his battery. I got the battery charger out and hook it up to his battery and tried the 80-amp engine start, and it work. This battery charger is easy to use just follow the directions and you shouldn't have no problems. This battery charger has a 80-amp engine start 20-amp boost and 6 2-amp charger and maintainer. The cables are 75 inches long and easy to use and are color coded plus on the grips or insulators they are mark plus or minus for the negative cable or postive cable this is a very nice feature on the cables. The charger has a revers hook up protection just in case you make a mistake and hook up the charger wrong. It comes in a heavy metal case. It also float charge your battery it controls how much amperage to put into your battery has it gets closer to been fully charge. It has LED indicator display power status charge status boost mode engine start cool down bad battery and reversed clamps, I have to highly recommend this battery charger it really is a good one.

Simple to use
I have an older battery charger/ maintainer that I have used for years . I wanted to upgrade to a better one and came across this model. So far I have nothing but good things to say about it. It's plug and play right out of the box. Simply attach the clamps to appropriate battery terminals and plug the unit in. That simple. It does the rest. It works on both 6volt and 12 volt batteries and determines the correct charge all by itself. The leafs to the clamps are nice and long plus it has a generous amount of power cord.

Well worth getting
The Schumacher Pro 2-Amp 6-Volt/12-Volt Battery Charger is a very nice unit. Small and compact and should fits most tool draws. It’s made of plastic but appears durable. All of its features are automated. The only thing you have to do is connect it to your battery. It will indicate if you hook it up incorrectly too. I like the long power cord and separate leads to connect to your battery. You also have the option to connect the charger with an included quick-connect harness. The Schumacher name has been around a long time and I still have one that’s about 40 years old – though with no automation. You can’t go wrong.

Must have in a Michigan winter.
Winter will be here soon in Lower Michigan. I think my battery is good and strong. But if it goes wonky one morning. The Schumacher Pro 6 /12 Volt charger should do the trick. This modern charger is so small compared to the chargers back in the day. The charger has the usual positive and negative squeeze clamps. And another set of cables with rings to fasten to the battery. One good feature about this charger it can detect if and when the cables are on backwards and it will not charge the battery. Great feature for sure. My son will be borrowing it for his motorcycle battery. It's actually perfect charger for motorcycle applications. The charger will not over charge it goes into trickle charge mode. So no damage from over charging. Thats another nice feature for sure. Overall pretty nice battery charger for under thirty dollars.

Schumacher SPR1627 Battery Charger/Maintainer
The Schumacher Pro 2-Amp 6-Volt/12-Volt Battery Charger and Maintainer, Model # SPR1627, is a compact, lightweight, and a full-featured battery charger and maintainer. Note: this unit is NOT designed to “jump start” a vehicle. The unit comes complete with two, 3 1/2" standard “alligator” charging clamps as well as with a two-ring terminal cable, both for charging and maintaining a battery. This unit is designed to charge and maintain the battery charge level of 6-volt and 12-volt AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat), Gel, Lead Acid, rechargeable batteries by providing up to 2-amps of charging current. It should be noted that this charger/maintainer is not for charging use on standard household (also known as “dry-cell batteries”) or on any other type of non-chargeable batteries nor Lithium-Ion batteries. There are no switches or gauges on the charger to deal with as you simply plug the unit into a standard household 120-volt electrical receptacle to operate it. It has a built-in electronic microprocessor circuit that automatically determines if there is a 6-volt or 12-volt battery to be charged and then automatically regulates the amperage flow during the battery charging and maintainer phases. It also has a handy safety “reverse hook-up” feature to immediately alert you, via an LED (Light Emitting Diode) indicator, so you don’t accidently place the wrong leads on the battery terminals. It also has other LED status indicators on the unit to inform you of the various states of charging and when you are in the maintainer/float mode. Once the charging is complete, the unit automatically switches to the maintainer mode. The maintainer/float mode is great to keep your battery at full charge, especially when the battery is not used for long periods of time such as in a golf cart, boat, watercraft, or snow machine. This unit is UL Listed by Underwriters Laboratory for electrical safety. While this unit appears to be an excellent “state of the art” battery charger/maintainer, I was a bit disappoint with the operating instructions. It appears that these generic instructions were written for several different chargers, especially when they refer to “switches”, “make sure voltage selector switch is set at correct voltage”, “make sure all accessories in the vehicle are off” (what about engine hood light, security system/door locks are always “on” as well as digital clock and radio?), a charging table shows 6A, 8A 10A when the unit can only put out 2A, the instruction sheet that came with the unit says 1 year warranty versus manufacturer says it has a 2 year warranty on Home Depot Q&A page for this item. I believe the manufacturer should take the time to write detailed and specific operating instructions for this full featured battery charger/maintainer unit. All in all, it this appears to be a good unit!

Simple to use
I bought this to charge my riding lawn mower battery during the winter months. This charger is a no brainer. Just hook up the cables and plug it in. The 3 lights tell you if the cables are not on the proper post, when it's charging and once its fully charge. No switch's or adjustments. Just plug and go. The power cable and charging cables are around six feet each, so plenty of room to work with.

Hubs is happy :)
No need to guess if the yard tractor or motorcycle will start in cold weather any more! Finally have a charger/maintainer for each one. This Shumacher pro is fully automatic, able to tell the difference in a 6 or 12 volt battery. It charges the battery or can be used to maintain as well. This one has a rust proof case on it too. So happy to have this and one less concern when we need to move the tractor.

Perfect for Winter storage of batteries!
How many times have you put a battery away for the Winter and come back in the Spring to find that it’s discharged? It’s happened to me on a lawnmower a few times but this trickle charger/battery maintainer is going to solve that problem. The Schumacher Pro Automotive 6-Volt/12-Volt 2-Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer with Auto Voltage Detection is the solution for me. It doesn’t matter if you have a 6-Volt battery (like I have for my battery-powered lawn mower) or a 12-Volt battery (like I have in my car), this unit is smart enough to know the difference between them and has a microprocessor to control the charge rate and maintain the right charge for the battery. It also has reverse hook-up protection, There are two different connector types that can attach to the charging cable via a plug: clamp and ring terminal adapters. The clamps are smaller than the ones on my older charger but they work fine, the rings go over the posts and you screw wing nut clamps to hold them down. One thing that I learned when I bought my battery-powered lawn mower is that there are three different battery types: standard, AGM, and gel. This charger can handle all three, so there’s nothing to worry about with this model. There are three colored LED indicators that tell you the condition of the battery: Red flashing – indicates the battery cables are reversed. Red – there’s a problem with the battery. It needs to be checked/replaced Yellow/Orange – the battery is charging Green – the battery is fully charged and the charger is in maintenance mode If you’re looking for a charger for a completely dead battery, I wouldn’t recommend this unit. If you’re looking for something to keep your battery charged at the right level when you haven’t used it for a while, this is what you’re looking for! I have no problem rating this item highly.

Quality fully automatic battery charger/maintainer
Very easy to use Smart battery charger/maintainer. I use these, (I have more than one), for 2 cars, my lawnmower, and jet skis. They work very well on each providing a fully charged battery after sometimes considerable battery non use down time. I only have 12 volt batteries but these chargers automatically detect either 6 or 12 volt battery voltage. I simply connect the battery clamps to the car batteries positive post and the negative clamp to a good ground spot on the vehicle, plug it in and everything is then automatic. LED's indicate that the system is on and working as well as charging/maintaining. Gives immediate red LED warning if I somehow didn't put the clamps on the correct battery posts. The charge rate is fully automatic with overcharge protection and red LED indicator if battery is bad. Should there be an issue with the battery condition during charging the unit will abort charging. The fully automatic charging and float mode insures optimal battery health and longevity. Doesn't get much easier to be sure I have fully charged batteries when I need them.

Very smart charging, maintaining, and engine starting
This is a quality, dependable, battery charger, maintainer, and engine starter which works well on our 4 and 6 cylinder cars as well as the jet ski's and Zero turn lawnmower. Being Florida snowbirds I leave a car in Maryland for approximately 6 months a year with this battery maintainer attached. When I return in the Spring the car starts right up with fully charged battery. Controls are quite easy to set and microprocessor controlled amp rate float feature is fully automatic. Depending on situation I can set 2-6 amp charge rate for slow charging or maintaining, 20 amp boost if battery won't start car and needs faster prestart help, and 80 amp to assist actually starting the car. I have never been able to start a car using the engine start assist without at least some time recharging the battery first and this does a nice job for both functions. Upon connection to battery LED's indicate battery state of charge condition and then progress in charging. When fully charged the LED light goes from Orange/Red to green and unit automatically goes from 2-6 amp charging to 2 amp maintaining. When starting the car with a low battery and the car won't start on the first attempt the LED's tell when the battery has cooled down and is ready for another attempt to start the car. Should there be an issue with a bad battery it automatically aborts charging and gives red warning LEDs. It also has bad battery and reverse hookup protection. The 75 inch cables with good size connectors are quite adequate for easy hookup to the battery in the car. This is a very smart unit that does exactly what I need and expect it to do.

Better-grade battery charger from the most experienced brand in the business
Modern battery charger, better than most. Protects itself and you against most battery mishaps. Suits small car batteries to large pickup batteries. Seems to "work" on lawn-tractor batteries although 8Amps is a brutal charge for a small batt. Well ventilated, handy handle. Good battery clamps for top or side terminals. There is some fine-print on the case not explained in the manual. Only 2 minutes at 8A? Or does it, like most chargers, quickly taper-down below 8A? I admit that I prefer the HEAVY battery chargers (most made by the same Schumacher) of the last century. They did not try to out-smart you (but you had to know what you were doing).

Schumacher model SPR1629 keeps you charged and boosted if needed. Automatically charges and works very well
This Schumacher model SPR1629 battery charger with boost mode and battery maintainer is just what I needed to help me keep my batteries in good shape and charged plus with the boost mode I can start that piece of equipment that has been setting around from the prior season. With 80-amp engine start and 20 amp boost it starts my engines quick and easy. Fully automatic microprocessor controlled when charging or maintaining your batteries. Easy to see led indicators. This is protected in case of reverse cable hook up and a heavy-duty metal case to keep this working led light display to keep you informed including if the cables are reversed or you have a bad battery. Make sure you read the owner’s manual and follow all the safety instructions. 75-inch cables for the long reach. Batteries are expensive keep them maintained to last longer and start what you want [use this with 12-volt lead acid batteries only]. Get this and other Schumacher products at Home Depot

Worked OK on a limited test
Lightweight and low priced. Intended use is maintaining a stored led-acid battery. Very helpful for a battery that is unused for extended periods of time. Automatically detects if battery is 6 or 12 volts, a thoughtful design feature. Automatically adjusts charging current down to float mode as battery becomes fully charged. If charger senses that battery is sulfated, it will attempt to desulfate battery and then automatically switch to charging mode if desulfation is successful. SIGNIFICANT LIMITATION: NOT INTENDED FOR CHARGING A DEAD BATTERY. LED’s indicate status during the charging process. Yellow/Orange: Charging battery Green: Battery fully charged; charger delivers trickle current as needed to maintain voltage Red: Charger has detected problem with battery Red flashing: Connections reversed Power cord is short. Battery clamps and ring connectors are small but adequate for low current delivery. My sample worked OK, but a limited test is insufficient to assess reliability. Other reports vary. Keep expectations realistic. Product is designed and constructed for a low price point. One year warranty. Made in China.

Automatic
It’s always nice to have a battery charger available when you need it. Some people may not understand the difference between a 6 volt and a 12 volt battery, not a problem, this charger will detect your type of battery and charge it as necessary. The cables are of good length and the clamps are clearly marked with positive and negative. The front of the charger has lights to tell you if the clamps are reversed, when the unit is charging and when the charging is complete and maintaining the charge. This thing is very easy to use.

Compact with long cords, very handy for the intended purpose
Compact design, however both cords are around 6 feet in length. Case is non-conductive and rust-proof. Fully automatic - no switches to set, nor a need for constant monitoring. I am using with a marine battery where 2 amps is just fine. I can leave it hooked up as long as I wish and not have to worry as it shuts down automatically then sense when it needs to give it another short charge. It comes with two options, one is a standard sized clip-on, the other had a ring mounts for more permanent uses. And it is easy to swap from one to the other. It even auto-detects 6 volt or 12 volt batteries, again no switches to fool with. A very nice design. Made in China.
