Installed 24 of these for a simple overhang. Good stuff first: out of approx 100 screws I drove, only one screw split one of these strips (and it wasn't even on the end of the strip - it was the middle). Due to the softness of this wood, you don't need to drill pilot holes into the strip for your screws. You still need to drill a pilot hole through your roof panel, but if you use the Woodtite/Palram screws with the fluted tip there's no need for an additional pilot hole. I started out drilling pilot holes but quickly experimented without it and found there's no need - a big time saver.
Now the bad: the stain finish does nothing for waterproofing - it just makes it look like treated wood. The strips are also cut/shaped to a very rough surface, so painting them would be very cumbersome. Theoretically they shouldn't see much water, but I'd still prefer more waterproofing. Before I bought the strips I also examined each pack closely. Because they come in clear plastic, you can look to see if you're buying a pack with lots of knots in the wood. I made sure that I chose clear wood (few/no knots), which helped prevent splitting. That took a little doing as most packs had knots. I'm guessing reviewers that had problems with strips splitting had knots. Finally - the price. $9 for a little pack of cheap wood strips is way too much.

Nice but ...
Being made of recycled wood, the wood strips are very fragile along with inconsistancies on the tops. You may have 4 ot of 5 pack perfectly fine but the last one tops may be splintered off, not giving a good seal.
My main reasoning for wood was they are a recyled product and could paint them, but kind of thinking I should of went with the PVC or the Whits foam ...

Good strips, more work than the plastic.
For most of my deck roof I used the plastic closure strips, but in one add-on section the plastic wasn't available so I used the wood. I had read that the wood strips can rot, which makes sense since any untreated wood can rot. Condensation does occur on the underside of the panels and as the strips are exposed to that moisture they will slowly deteriorate. So, I took extra steps. I coated the entire strips with two coats of copper green preservative. Once that had dried per instructions, I coated the strips with Behr weatherproofing sealer and stain. The combination should provide long-lasting protection. I was also aware that these strips are prone to splitting, and they are. During installation I pre-drilled holes large enough that the panel screws would cleanly pass through. That was an extra step and I had to eliminate the sawdust, but the installation went perfectly. I used these on a covered deck and they look great, matching the framework nicely. I prefer the look of the wood over the plastic strips, but it is necessary to respect the nature of wood and take the steps necessary for good lasting results. Otherwise you should probably use the plastic strips.

The product works fine. The problem is with its availability. It is only an in store item and has been in short supply at many local stores. It was available at a store 200 mikes away, and the only way to get the product was to buy it at the store and go get it. I did, as I had a greenhouse to finish. Not too happy with the HD's flexibility and product availability. I would expect a little more from a billion dollar multinational corporation. P

The strips were OK. I wont say great, since the cuts varied between different packages a bit. This did cause some issues due to needing to regap between pieces unexpectedly. Some of the wood pieces had knots in the wood causing it to split at the edge of the knot. Care should be taken when the knots are seen close to where you are attaching the strip to the frame. I had pretty good luck with pre-drilling pilot holes and then attaching, but even then a few of the strips did crack and split apart.

cheap knoty pine
Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money and get the plastic ones, you are way better off because these ones just split and fall apart and then your screws won’t hold. I pre-drilled ever single one so they would not split and most of them still did.

They are only one inch wide and we had 2x4 frames. Years ago these strips were 2inches and fit the frame. We had to pre drill each screw so the strip would not split. It added extra work and time to the project.

Very flimsy. As much of a pain as it is, definitely pre-drill these. You'll split them at least half the time with screws if not. Also a handful arrived broken, so plan for some waste.

Used it because of time issues, however, it should have been made of cedar for its long lasting ability to weather when untreated.
