This column is heavy duty. Easy to install. Meets all code requirements, and has a hole to fill it with sand to aid in fire resistance. I coated the bottom with a name brand rust inhibitor as it's installed in a garage where salt water is present.

If you understand that you're lifting hundreds, probably in most cases thousands of pounds, you should expect this to be VERY difficult to turn. Grab the largest wrench you can find. Think of how long a handle it takes to lift a vehicle with a hydraulic jack, and consider that this is NOT hydraulic, and it's lifting thousands more pounds than a car. it is not easier, nor is it made to be. It's made to be permanent. Avoid greasing it, as that may cause it to unscrew over time.

To get the screw to move we had to put a pipe wrench on it. Then it took another 15 minutes of trying to grease it (with a #2EP grease) before we could get it to turn by hand. The machining didn't look bad, it just didn't work and trying to get the product to work properly added lots of time to the job..
