Love Trex
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received my Trex - Transcend 1 ft Sample - Island Mist it is a beautiful mix of grays. Being from a construction family who built decks using only Trex and have trex on our own deck i know the beauty and durability of this product. Trex boards out weigh traditional wood deck boards hands down.

Excellent Deck Sample!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is an excellent deck sample and I sincerely love the aesthetic texture of it. It's only a 1 feet sample item but the product can be used in a variety of ways. I'm currently using it as a small shelf space item on my wall. It can hold small books and other treasured items. It is not large enough or sturdy enough to hold televisions or full-size stereo systems but it can hold small computer speakers. The nature of this material is faux wood. I definitely think the item will hold up with time and I sincerely think the manufacturer of this item will improve the material in the future. I love this item!

I am reviewing Trex Transend about six years after I rebuilt my redwood deck. I got tired of having to do extensive maintenance every 3 or 4 years on the redwood but the last straw was damage to the sub-structure from carpenter ants.
After six years, my deck looks like new. I am not exaggerating. I live at 8300ft elevation in Colorado. At this elevation UV exposure is usually a problem with fading and deterioration of most plastics. The other day I brought a spare board out from the basement and compared it to the deck area with the most sun exposure. No fading, no deterioration of any kind. High traffic areas like the steps leading up to the deck also has no wear.
My only complaint is that the simulated wood grain is a pine tree pollen magnet. Every late spring I pressure wash it with soap. Takes less that an hour to restore the newness. Did I mention extensive maintenance to my old redwood deck?
I also made several custom assemblies such as a handrail and custom covering around the railing posts. I assembled the pieces with water resistant white wood glue and I painted exposed cuts with matching spray paint. Six years later, still like new.

The decking boards are really good quality just as they have been since I first started using them 6 or 7 years ago. If you intend to use the Trex Hideaway Universal Hidden Fasteners, beware. They have changed the screws for those fasteners from a high quality metal with star slot to a much softer aluminum with square slot. If you're not extremely careful the screw will strip out meaning you must back the screw out, if possible, and put in another screw. Don't worry, they supply you with a whole bag of extras in every box of fasteners. I guess that's there way of fixing the problem. If you can't back it out you must remove all the other screws in that board, take the board up and put in a new fastener. So very aggravating.5 stars for the boards, 0 stars for the Trex Hideaway Universal Hidden Fasteners.

For the Trex Hidden Fasteners please note that Trex has recently discontinued the square drive screws as of 2020 which Trex has had for a long period of time as we are transitioning to star drive. Im literally only writing this review to respond to the comment posted that the finish is not all they way through the board. Obviously its not, trex and any other composite explain the finish on their websites. Don’t post a review when you dont know what you’re talking about.

I do not recommend Trex deck boards!
My contractor talked me into using this product — purchased from Home Depot — for a large deck. It was a very expensive project, and I expected the deck to remain in good shape for at least a decade. But within a few months of exposure to the elements, the deck boards had shrunk considerably. Some of the boards warped. The deck has been in for a little over a year, and the boards are so shrunken now that you can see all of the undermounting clips. There has been significant fading, too. This is a terrible product! I would not recommend it to anyone. (I plan to file a warranty claim, but from what I have read online I would say that I have little chance of success.)

Installed 16 inch on center with Trex hidden fasteners. Easy to work and install. Very solid feel to deck. Appearance and texture is outstanding. Expensive but so far worth the extra cost. Time will tell on durability and fade resistance.

Ordered and paid for three samples - all on the brown family. They came but although there's tag on the back it does not denote the color name/ number. Yes , I can go on line and guess which one is which but how am I supposed to order thousands of dollars of non stock decking based on unmarked samples?

We ordered 5 samples to match the color of our new deck with our newly painted home. I am so glad that we didi this becasue what we had picked out inthe store changed with it matched up next to the house in the sun and shade. My husband said its only on one side of the house, it won't matter, but he immeidately said no to our original color we chose in the store. Now we just need to prep our back yard and order our deck materials !!!
