I bought this catch box to pair with the Wayne 1/3 HP Cast Iron Submersible Sump Pump with Vertical Float Switch, Model# CDU790. I needed a pump to drain the water accumulation that would happen every heavy rain here in Southern California. Water would collect in our backyard and eventually flood our patio, not to mention pool in the lawn. This box fits the bill perfectly. After installing it into the hole I dug for it, we also installed 10” lags through the sides laterally, into the soil, near the box bottom. This would keep the box from floating when water accumulated and the pump was clearing water. The pump weight would not be enough to hold the box down when the rainfall really accumulated. The Wayne pump sets in it as if made to go into it, and after having received almost 6 inches already just in the last 2 weeks, the pump in the box has kept our patio dry and eased a lot of concern. The box is very stout, not flimsy. The sides are 1/8” thick, the bottom dimension being 14” square, the top being 18” square. There are no holes in it, pleased to see this as I would be custom-fitting an ABS line to this box for drainage and didn’t want to mess with sealing unnecessary openings. The grate is very strong and attractive, polished heavy cast aluminum. It fits into the top of the box by resting on the inner topmost shoulders or step of the box. It provides enough room for the pump power cable to extend out of the box and beside the grate and out the top. Very clean. I would recommend this box for anyone needing to do with it as I did. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Used this to hold a sump pump in the front yard where standing water would collect during a heavy rain. Works perfectly for my application and grate helps protect some walking on it.

I received a 14 x 14 instead of the 14 x 18 that I ordered. Had to install it anyway because the backhoe was on site to install it. It was the last day for the backhoe to be onsite to back-fill the trench with the 75' long drain line. We'll see how that works out. the box holds several inches of water so some holes need to be cut in the bottom so the remaining water can drain out. If that extra couple of gallons are allowed to remain it will be a mosquito hotel. in this case it would be near the front door of the house. Holes in the bottom in most cases will not cause any problems what so ever. Most of my drain boxes have no bottom at all. If the box was the right size it probably would be fine if it had some holes in the bottom to drain the last couple of gallons.

All things considered, I think that this item lives up to expectations. It’s maybe a little overpriced for a plastic bucket with a metal grate. But, it’s priced in line with its competitors.

These do not have pre-cutouts. That was actually better for me since I wanted the drain on the bottom. The holes were easy to cut with a wide drill bit and jig saw. If you did want the holes on the sides, the two included 4 inch pvc pipe adapter will fit on either side of the rib on the sides. The aluminum grate cover is sturdy and won't rust.

I am glad I got this one , Ended up needing a bigger sump pump, and with the connectors, this was just the right size. Don't get a smaller one, so you will not have to dig the hole, trust ME

I needed a deep-box catch basin and this 18" basin did what I needed it to do. It's not as easy to install the drain pipe as the 12" boxes, as the 12-inchers have easy knock-outs. This one requires a specific sized hole cutter, which I did not have. Luckily, a Dremel tool did the trick. Unfortunately, the connector that was included did NOT work with the Schedule 40 4" pipe I was using. Sched 40 pipe has a slightly thicker wall than regular drain pipe. I was too naive to realize that "drain pipe" is something different from Sched 40. I solved my problem by buying a short length of 3" pipe, and using a step-up convertor to the 4" pipe. The 3" pipe nestles very nicely on the inside of the connector. This basin is heavy enough to sit in place and not shift. The top grill is sturdy - but I wish it screwed down. I am very happy with my results, and I would purchase this product again. In fact, I may need to take care of yet another downspout!
