Hello. Scanning through bathroom tile can be problematic depending on the type of tile and the construction techniques used in the particular bathroom. If the construction behind the tile contains certain types of insulation, has dense backing or irregular thickness, normal stud scanning or deep scanning may not be effective or reliable. Zircon® recommends you use a scanning tool with metal scan capabilities which the HD800 has.
Using a metal scanner you can scan and map the nails that hold the wall board to the studs. The nails will be vertically stacked in fairly regular intervals. You can search "zircontv" on YouTube for videos that demonstrate this technique. When you have mapped out a stud, use a thin drill bit through the grout line on the tile wall to verify you're drilling into a stud.
If the bathroom wall you're scanning has an opposite side that is a normal wall (i.e. a bedroom or hall), you can use the normal stud scan mode to find the studs on the opposite side of the tiled bathroom surface. Then you can transfer the measurements over. If you have any further questions please contact us.
