    What You Need to Know

    Our Services
What is the process for having a kitchen remodel done by The Home Depot?
The Home Depot’s Home Services team has a simple process to handle every part of your remodel:

    • We’ll start with a site analysis to understand your unique space. (Please note there is a ~$100-200 deposit, depending on location, for this service.)
    • You’ll work with one of our kitchen designers to create your design and select products.
    • We’ll perform a site verification to confirm the design, quote, and specs.
    • After you submit your payment, we’ll order your custom products and arrange for them to be shipped directly to your home.
    • During the pre-install stage, we’ll gather permits and confirm product delivery dates.
    • Once your products arrive, we’ll handle their installation from start to finish. The Home Depot keeps you in the loop through every stage of the process and our service providers clean the work area daily.
    • After the installation is complete, we’ll do a walk-through of your new kitchen to ensure the job is completed to your satisfaction and according to our guidelines.
How can I prepare for my free kitchen design consultation?
Whether you know exactly what you want or need some guidance, our kitchen experts can help you get started. Some of the questions you may want to think about before your free consultation include:

    • What are your project goals? Consider whether this is your forever home or a rental/flip, whether you’d like to change your kitchen layout, how many children and/or pets you have, and if you like to entertain, cook or have other lifestyle preferences.
    • What is your overall project budget? Consider budgeting 5-15% of your home’s current value.
    • What is your project timeline? Consider any upcoming events that may impact your kitchen project such as a party or holiday celebration you’ll be hosting or moving into a new home.
    • What are your style preferences? Consider providing links to your Pinterest boards and/or other inspiration.
    • Do you want The Home Depot to take care of installation for you? All our installation professionals are licensed, insured and background checked, and all labor, products and installation are 100% backed by The Home Depot

Check out our Kitchen Planning Guide for more tips on how to prepare for your kitchen remodeling project.
Why are a site analysis and professional measurements needed for my kitchen remodel?
Our installers have the professional expertise needed to take accurate measurements throughout your kitchen that are essential to a safe remodel—this includes walls, windows, ceiling, soffits, plumbing, electrical, AC vents, and more. These measures are critically important when designing your kitchen. A simple mistake could lead to costly re-orders—but if our installers complete the measurements, The Home Depot assumes liability for any measure errors.
Why should I consider refacing my cabinets versus a complete remodel?
Cabinet refacing (or a cabinet makeover) is an excellent choice if you like the layout of your kitchen or bathroom and some elements of your cabinets and countertops. With a full remodel, you’ll start from scratch and make changes to your whole kitchen or bathroom design.
    Things to Consider
How can I get the most out of my remodel?

Remodeling your kitchen is the perfect opportunity to create a design that’s based on your individual needs. Focus on who will be using the kitchen most and how many people will be working in the space at one time. You’ll want to ensure you have room to work and move around as needed, so consider the work triangle in your new layout.

You’ll also want to think about a dining area, how often you entertain, and what a kitchen with guests would look like. Our team of kitchen designers can develop a variety of options to ensure your new kitchen perfectly fits your lifestyle.

What is the kitchen work triangle, and how will it help create the best kitchen for my needs?
The kitchen work triangle is the area where most tasks are performed in your kitchen. This usually involves the refrigerator, the stove, and the sink. The spacing of these items is essential, as you’ll spend a lot of time moving back and forth between these three focal points. Our kitchen designers will help you find the optimal location for your work triangle. We will design your kitchen to be functional to fit your specific needs.
What are my storage options in a kitchen upgrade?
There are several elements in your kitchen with storage capabilities. Most homeowners start with their cabinets. If you need new cabinets, now is the time to update storage capacity with drawer inserts, roll-out trays or more shelves. You can also choose a closed cabinet design, a glass face to display the items in the cabinets, or even have open shelving.

During a kitchen remodel, you can also decide whether it makes sense to hide small appliances in cabinets or display them on the countertop. Another storage option is a new pantry, which can help you and your family stay organized. You may also want to consider having a kitchen island, with its own set of storage cabinets or shelves. Islands can also provide additional countertop and seating space.
    Pricing & Prep
How much should I invest in my kitchen remodel project?
On average, you should invest 5-15% of your home's current market value on a complete kitchen remodel (products and installation). Factor in 1/3 of the budget for cabinets, 1/3 for countertops, sinks, faucets and appliances and 1/3 for installation of the project. To estimate your project costs, check out our Kitchen Remodeling Cost Guide or use our Kitchen Estimator tool.
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
The time it takes to remodel your kitchen depends on the size of your project, the amount of work needed, and product lead times. The process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, averaging 2-3 weeks for a small project and 4-12 weeks for a larger, more complex project. These time estimates include the ordering and delivery of your custom products. During your site verification, ask our qualified kitchen contractor how long your project should take.
How can I prepare my home for a kitchen remodel?

Until your products arrive, you won't need to make any changes. Once the remodel is ready to kick off, you can prep your home by doing the following:

    • Start by removing anything hanging from kitchen walls. You'll also want to remove curtains and any breakable light fixtures.
    • Empty your cabinets and drawers and clear everything off your countertops. Pack away and label items during the time of the renovation, so things stay organized. Set aside any essential items in an accessible area for use during the remodel.
    • Keep the construction space as empty and clean as possible during each project phase. This might even be the perfect time to donate items you rarely use.
    • Prevent the spread of dust and debris and limit other damage by placing protective covers over floors and entryways to adjacent rooms.

We will take care of covering your floors and entryways to protect them during your remodel.

Made 3 additional inquiries concerning a new sink. Ended up purchasing an expensive sink that we were told would work. We cannot use the drain plugs that came with it .Apparently they are too deep, so have to use cheap ones that make it difficult to collect and dispose of any food particles left after washing dishes or preparing foods. Plumbers could not install garbage disposal because of depth of sink. Not once in the many conversations we had about this project did anyone mention that as a possibility. Pretty sure we should have purchased a much cheaper sink, less depth and been able to keep our garbage disposal. We were offered an option for a minimum of additional $500 for plumber to go into the wall, add additional plumbing.

The installer Esteban was extremely efficient, courteous and knowledgeable. He is a keeper! He worked 10 hours straight (with lunch) and blew my mind how he did this work within that time frame. Yelki, his helper, needs some more educating and work ethics. He spent time on his cell phone outside and drinking sodas in the air conditioned truck, while Esteban worked continuously. It?s up to Home Depot to either do his job as he gets paid for, or replace him. Steffi Bormann, Hospital Administrator and I know the difference between a good worker or just one that wants to get his hours in without effort.

This entire experience from the woman who took my order, to the company who supplied the counter tops, to the installation crew and also the plumbers who hooked up the sink was exceptional! I am very happy with the way the countertops look! EXCELLENT JOB!
