Make Your Dream Kitchen a Reality
With an endless number of possibilities, no matter your lifestyle or budget, The Home Depot is ready to help bring your dream kitchen to life.
What is the process for having a kitchen remodel done by The Home Depot?
The Home Depot’s Home Services team has a 7-step process to handle every part of your remodel:
Step 1: We’ll start with a site analysis to understand your unique space.
Step 2: You’ll work with one of our kitchen designers to create your design and select products.
Step 3: We’ll perform a site verification to confirm the design, quote, and specs.
Step 4: After you submit your payment, we’ll order your custom products and arrange for them to be shipped directly to your home.
Step 5: During the pre-install stage, we’ll gather permits and confirm product delivery dates.
Step 6: Once your products arrive, we’ll handle their installation from start to finish. The Home Depot keeps you in the loop through every stage of the process and our service providers clean the work area daily.
Step 7: After the installation is complete, we’ll do a walk-through of your new kitchen to ensure the job is completed to your satisfaction and according to our guidelines.
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
The time it takes to remodel your kitchen depends on the size of your project, the amount of work needed, and product lead times. The process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, averaging 2-3 weeks for a small project and 4-12 weeks for a larger, more complex project. These time estimates include the ordering and delivery of your custom products. During your site verification, ask our qualified kitchen contractor how long your project should take.
When is the right time to remodel my kitchen?
There are many reasons why you may want to remodel your kitchen. Are your cabinets, faucets, and appliances still functioning properly? Do you simply want to refresh your space with new colors, patterns, or textures? Or do you want to change the layout or functionality of your kitchen? As you go through the early stages of a kitchen remodel an in-store associate can walk you through your options and schedule up an appointment for you to meet with one of our kitchen designers. No matter what you’re looking for, we offer a large assortment with custom options and focus on value to help you get the most out of your kitchen remodel.
What should I do while my kitchen is being remodeled?
Think about how you can function without a working kitchen. Utilize small appliances and keep your pantry stocked with nonperishable grab-and-go items. Use biodegradable plates, cups, and utensils since you won’t have a working dishwasher. Take advantage of a grill or outdoor cooking area if you have one. You may also want to consider eating out with family or friends more often. Being prepared ahead of time will greatly alleviate any stress you may have without a functioning kitchen during the remodel.
What is the kitchen work triangle, and how will it help create the best kitchen for my needs?
The kitchen work triangle is the area where most tasks are performed in your kitchen. This usually involves the refrigerator, the stove, and the sink. The spacing of these items is essential, as you’ll spend a lot of time moving back and forth between these three focal points. Our kitchen designers will help you find the optimal location for your work triangle. We will design your kitchen to be functional to fit your specific needs.
How can I get the most out of my kitchen?
Remodeling your kitchen is the perfect opportunity to create a design that’s based on your individual needs. Focus on who will be using the kitchen most and how many people will be working in the space at one time. You’ll want to ensure you have room to work and move around as needed, so consider the work triangle in your new layout. You’ll also want to think about a dining area, how often you entertain, and what a kitchen with guests would look like. Our team of kitchen designers can develop a variety of options to ensure your new kitchen perfectly fits your lifestyle.
What are my storage options in a kitchen upgrade?
There are several elements in your kitchen with storage capabilities. Most homeowners start with their cabinets. If you need new cabinets, now is the time to update storage capacity with drawer inserts, roll-out trays or more shelves. You can also choose a closed cabinet design, a glass face to display the items in the cabinets, or even have open shelving.
During a kitchen remodel, you can also decide whether it makes sense to hide small appliances in cabinets or display them on the countertop. Another storage option is a new pantry, which can help you and your family stay organized. You may also want to consider having a kitchen island, with its own set of storage cabinets or shelves. Islands can also provide additional countertop and seating space.
Should I get new appliances when I have my kitchen remodeled?
If you’re thinking about updating appliances or adding new ones, a kitchen remodel is the perfect time to do so, as your cabinet design will be built around your appliance specs. New appliances can give your kitchen a fresh look, but it’s important to choose the right appliances for your needs. If you don’t spend a lot of time in the kitchen, standard appliances might be sufficient. If you enjoy cooking, baking and entertaining, top-of-the-line appliances may be essential.
How can I prepare my home for a kitchen remodel?
Until your products arrive, you won't need to make any changes. Once the remodel is ready to kick off, you can prep your home by doing the following:
• Start by removing anything hanging from kitchen walls. You'll also want to remove curtains and any breakable light fixtures.
• Empty your cabinets and drawers. Pack away and label items during the time of the renovation, so things stay organized. Set aside any essential items in an accessible area for use during the remodel.
• Keep the construction space as empty and clean as possible during each project phase. This might even be the perfect time to donate items you rarely use.
• Prevent the spread of dust and debris and limit other damage by placing protective covers over floors and entryways to adjacent rooms.
When you choose to have The Home Depot handle your installation, we will take care of covering your floors and entryways to protect them during your remodel.

You can begin planning for your kitchen remodel by knowing a rough estimate of where your money will be spent. For a full kitchen renovation, 1/3 of your budget will go to cabinetry, 1/3 will be spent on installation, and the remaining 1/3 is allocated to finishing touches. Finishing touches could be appliances, lighting, faucets, sinks, plumbing, backsplash, countertops, or flooring. Keeping these in mind, you’ll be able to balance your budget and more easily plan your project. For additional details on the cost of remodeling a kitchen, please visit our cost guide.
