Unfinished basements have huge potential to become beautiful, functional, and living spaces! If your laundry room happens to be in your unfinished basement, here are the steps you can take to turn it into a dreamy space!
1. Planning Your Project
Planning a laundry remodel could not be easier thanks to the project calculators that are available on The Home Depot’s website! From tile, to paint, to countertops, you can start your laundry remodel journey by calculating how much material you need before shopping. That way, you know if you are staying on budget before getting started!
2. Framing + Layout
The best part about working in an unfinished basement is the ability to turn a blank slate into a custom space that completely fits your needs. And, the first step in doing that is planning a layout and adding walls to define your space.
3. Flooring + Painting
Once your layout and your walls are established, it’s time to start customizing the space with upgrades like bright colored paint and custom flooring! Tile floors are a great option for basement laundry rooms as they are durable and easy to clean. First time tiling? Home Depot has amazing tiling guides and how-to tutorials right here on their website!
4. Cabinets + Countertops
Quality cabinets and countertops are key for a beautiful and functional laundry roomspace! For both of my recent, big renovations (check out my kitchen here), I’ve opted for Ready To Assemble cabinets from Hampton Bay. Not only are these cabinets easy to customize and configured, they are premium constructed cabinets that include fully adjustable and soft-closehinges and undermounted sliding drawer hardware that's durable and quick toassemble.
Once you’ve figured out your cabinets, it’s time to focus on countertops! Hampton Bay’sconfigurable laminate countertops are a great option for laundry rooms because they are easy to maintain and so mucheasier to install than regular laminate! They come with pre-machined routings and usespecialty bolts to connect multiple layouts quickly – no more specialty mitered corners.
5. Finishing Touches
Adding finishing touches like backsplash or floating shelves are secret weapons thatcan not only help pull together the look of any space with cabinetry, but it also help to make the space feel taller (which is great for spaces with short ceilings, like abasement).
