When it's time to make the leap into a new home improvement project, you might not have everything you need in the shed or garage. Don't let that stop you when you can stop by The Houston Rental Center for tools, trucks, and large equipment.
Tool Rental
Start your next DIY project with confidence and the right tools for the job. Let The Home Depot Houston Tool Rental Center fill in the gaps in your toolbox with the tools you don't have at home. Rent what you need and bring them back when you're done. In fact, if you found the tools so useful that you didn't want to return them, we have used tools available for purchase. The retired rental tools are discounted compared to the new items in our aisles.
Leaf Blowers
Try renting a leaf blower to keep up with your yard. Fall will be here in no time, so have a leaf blower at the ready. It's much easier than raking them into piles. It's also great to use on driveways, concrete sidewalks, and hardscaping surfaces. Choose from handheld, backpack, or walk-behind leaf blowers.
Chainsaws
Preserve the safety and beauty of the trees and woody shrubs in your yard with a rental chainsaw. Since you might not need this tool every day, it makes sense to rent it when prepping your yard for a new season. When the leaves are off the trees, it's much easier to spot any troublesome branches and do basic trimming. We carry gas and electric chainsaws, so you're sure to find one that fits the job.
Heaters
If you dislike working or being outside in the cold, check out our heater rentals. Portable heaters keep outdoor events, barns, or workspaces warm. They're safer than torch patio heaters because portable heaters don't have an open flame, and they also blow the hot air for greater coverage. We carry propane, gas, and electric heaters in various sizes. Pair this with nice outdoor lighting and a jacket, and you can extend work or play well into the evening with the extra warmth.
Truck and Cargo Van Rentals
To move large tool rentals or anything else, we keep trucks and cargo vans ready for rental. Although availability varies by store, we've got a selection ranging from pickups to flatbed trucks to cargo vans. Choose the right size for your DIY project so you can keep your timeline on track. As your source for DIY projects, packing, and storage needs, it's easy to make us your go-to source for truck rental as well.
Box Trucks and Penske Moving Truck Rentals
If it's time to relocate to a new home, we can help with that, too. Explore our rental box trucks. We also offer Penske moving trucks ranging from 12-foot to 26-foot lengths, but as always, availability varies from one store to the next. Use our trucks to haul all your belongings — from everything in a college dorm to the contents of a 4-bedroom house. Box trucks have different rental requirements and sizes than Penske moving trucks, so review our FAQs or speak to an Orange Apron for more details to make sure you find the right rental truck for you.
Large Equipment Rentals
Handle expansive projects with the right professional equipment. Our large equipment rentals give you the power you need to finish the job yourself. From the boom and scissor lifts to give you a boost to the mini excavators and mini skid steers for hauling materials, we've got a surprising variety of equipment available. If a large equipment rental could help you, explore our selection to see what we have in stock.
Although we're mentioning popular tool, truck, and large equipment rentals, not everything is available at every rental center. If you've got a particular tool in mind, please reach out to your local rental center to see where you can pick it up.
How do I rent tools, trucks, or large equipment?
Stop by your local Rental Center to see what's available. If you'd like to know what's in stock, call first to ask about a tool, large equipment, or truck. You can also read our tool and equipment rental or truck rental pages to see if what you need is offered at your favorite store. For more info on renting tools or large equipment, read the Tool Rental FAQs, which includes terms and conditions for the equipment.
Can I rent a truck for a week?
Rent a truck or cargo van for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes might be plenty. Otherwise, consider renting it by the week or the day, depending on the length of your project. Be sure to factor in the drive to and from the store, as you must bring it back to the same store you rented it from. Penske moving truck rentals allow one-way rentals as well as round-trip options, and they have different terms. Make sure to read the contract and the terms and conditions before you choose a truck.
When can I bring the tools back?
You can return the tools early if you finish your project ahead of schedule, but on time works, too. As long as you return it by the deadline you were given when you rented it, you'll be good to go. Please clean any residual dust, mud, and grime from the tool as well. If you need it longer, call the rental center to see if you can extend your rental period.
Do saw rentals come with saw blades?
Yes, power saw rentals generally come with blades, but we do recommend that you buy your own. You'll likely not get a sharp blade when you rent, as most people won't leave one on there when they return it. However, you may luck out and have a sharpened blade on the saw. Since there's no guarantee, it's better to buy a suitable blade, just in case you need it.
Do I need to refill the rental truck with gas?
Yes, please fuel up the truck before you return it. Note the amount of gas in the tank when you receive the truck, and be sure to fill it with enough gas to match that same level. When you don't refill the truck, you have to pay a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Do I just need a driver's license to rent a truck or large equipment?
No, you also need to be 21 or older, in addition to holding a valid driver's license. Depending on your state, you might require car insurance, as well as a deposit or credit card hold, too. We don't accept cash for Home Depot truck rentals, so please bring your credit card. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements, so read those if you plan to rent a Penske truck. Some tools and large equipment also require ID verification via CLEAR.
How do I receive my large equipment rental?
Depending on your location, you may be able to get large equipment delivered straight to your job site for an affordable rate — whether that's out in the field or at your own home. We'll need at least 24 hours' notice so we can adequately prepare your rental delivery for you, and you'll need to rent it for a full day. In places where delivery isn't available, speak to one of our knowledgeable associates for the best way to get your large equipment.
What are some ways to avoid penalties and extra fees on rented large equipment?
Treat your rented large equipment as any other vehicle: Make sure it's parked legally and that you obey traffic laws. Read the operator's manual so you're using it correctly to avoid damaging the equipment or injuring yourself. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are, as cancelling within 12 hours of delivery means you'll incur a cancellation fee. Make sure to return equipment by the deadline or extend the rental period to accommodate the extra hours or days you require.
