Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting CFLs, lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, and plastic plant pots for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
We have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores since 2010.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers. This commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment and our communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Do you offer big outdoor Halloween decorations?
We offer several huge outdoor Halloween decorations, several of which are animatronics. Make your front yard the creepiest on the block with giant Halloween decor options, including witches and skeletons. Dean the Deathologist and Skelly, the 12-foot skeleton, are two current favorites. Halloween inflatables tend to be less scary and are an excellent choice for homes with children.
Is it good to have a generator at home?
Having a generator means you're prepared for whatever circumstances life throws at you. Whether dealing with snowstorms, thunderstorms, tornados, hurricanes, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy electricity after the elements take it out. When searching generators for sale, remember that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're louder and heavier. Always run your generators outside, away from windows and doors, for safety purposes.
Should I do siding repairs before it gets cold?
Ready your home for colder weather by replacing or repairing faulty parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in any crevices, you could be in for a real headache. Check cinder blocks and brickwork for cracks, and ensure indoor ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. On the outside of your home, examine shingles or metal roofs for damage or rust that could let water leak into your home. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams. Lastly, change out vinyl siding and chimney caps if they're in poor condition.
What's the best way to store extra holiday decor?
As you prepare for the holidays, give yourself extra space in the house and stow away the rest. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Moving blankets shield fragile items. Shoe storage and other storage containers take summer belongings out of the equation. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you plenty of it.
How do I check my Home Depot gift card balance?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are an excellent present during the holiday season or for any occasion. DIYers know these gift cards are fun to give and to receive. Purchase gift cards at our stores or online at homedepot.com. If you receive a gift card, you can visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you or check your gift card balance online. Use our gift cards to shop online or redeem them in-store, all with no additional fees.
