Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, and CFLs for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
We have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores since 2010.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates. This commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment, as well as our communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Do you stock large outdoor Halloween decorations?
We have several types of huge outdoor Halloween decorations, many of which are life-sized animatronics. Make your yard the creepiest in the neighborhood with giant Halloween decor options, including reapers, skeletons, and witches. Dean the Deathologist and Skelly, the 12-foot skeleton, are two current favorites. Halloween inflatables tend to be less scary and are an excellent choice for homes with children.
Should I get an inverter generator or a portable generator?
We've got the variety you need when searching for a generator for sale. Inverter generators are cleaner and quieter than traditional portable generators. They'll adjust to the required load, making more noise when they create more power. When considering different generators for sale, keep in mind that portable generators are more affordable and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. For safety purposes, always run your generators outside, away from windows and doors.
How can I prepare my home for the winter?
Make sure your home is ready for cold weather by replacing any faulty or broken parts of your home and hardscaping. If water freezes in any crevices, you could be headed for trouble. On the outside of your home, examine roofing shingles or metal roof panels for damage or rust that could let water in. Gutters should be cleaned to prevent ice dams. Check cinder block and brickwork for cracks, and verify indoor ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. Lastly, vinyl siding and chimney caps should be swapped out if damaged.
What's the best way to store extra holiday decor?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow unused items to free up space. Shoe racks and other storage containers remove summer belongings from the equation. Garage cabinets keep decorations, tools, and more out of the way. Shield fragile items with moving blankets. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you plenty.
How do I check my Home Depot gift card balance?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are a popular present during the holiday season or for any reason. DIYers know these gift cards are fun to receive and to give. Buy gift cards at our stores or online at homedepot.com. If you receive a gift card, you can visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you or check your gift card balance online. Use our gift cards to shop online or redeem them in-store, all with no additional fees.
