How can I get my mulch delivered?
The Home Depot offers flexible mulch delivery options nationwide based on the size of your order. We can deliver small orders via car for a $3 fee. As orders grow to medium-sized, we switch to a van for a $35 fee. For massive projects, we have a fleet of box trucks and flatbeds ready to deliver to your job site for a $79 fee. Do you offer self-pickup for mulch orders?
Yes, you're welcome to pick up your mulch yourself. We're also happy to help if you need it. After you buy mulch online with store pickup or purchase it in-store, go to the mulch loading zone or drive-thru if your store has one. One of our associates will load your small or medium mulch order directly into your truck or SUV. For very large orders of bulk or bagged mulch, we recommend delivery.
Does The Home Depot deliver mulch?
If you have a small bagged mulch order, you can get it delivered to your door via a store-fulfilled local delivery service that uses third-party drivers. Your mulch will arrive in a regular van or car for just a $3 delivery fee. Loose mulch orders, also called bulk or yard mulch, will come in a truck. If you order a specific number of bags, you may qualify for free delivery. That threshold varies from store to store, but you'll be able to verify the cost at checkout.
What size mulch order gets flatbed delivery?
When you're ordering huge quantities of loose mulch or pallets of bagged mulch, you'll be looking at flatbed or box truck delivery. Often, these are landscapers, Pro customers, or serious DIYers working on a major landscaping project. There's a minimum pallet order to maximize resources and usually a delivery fee. Orders that pass a threshold may qualify for free delivery.
What should I do about weeds in my garden?
Weeds might start peeking through in the garden beds, even if you put down a landscape fabric or mulch to keep them at bay. Be sure to get them before the weeds' flowers dry out and drop their seeds. Pull weeds from the root in edible flower or vegetable gardens, and dig up the roots if the weed snaps off without them. If you choose to treat weeds with weed killer, find one that's safe for bees, other pollinators, and pets — and wear a respirator and thick rubber gloves to ensure that it doesn't irritate your lungs or your skin.
Can I fix scorched grass?
The solution for how to get burnt grass green again is easy: Fix the scorched spot with a good long drink. You'll need to rehydrate those roots. It should perk up by the following week. The game plan for treating grass damaged by dog urine isn't as straightforward. Grass damaged by pets must be removed, neutralized, and replaced in fresh soil with new grass, sod, or patch and repair grass seed.
When should I water my garden?
If you can water at least once a day, during the early morning or in the evening, that's ideal. When it's extremely hot out, twice is better. Watering when it's hottest outside means a great deal of the moisture will evaporate. This applies to whatever you've got growing: gardens, trees, lawns, and flowers. Whenever you water, give all the plants a thorough drink, and don't skip it if it's not the best time. The plants still need hydration, no matter what time it is. Depending on your lawn health, climate, and grass type, you may also want to add a lawn fertilizer.
Does my flower garden need fertilizer?
Once you've gotten your plants settled into the ground, you'll need to make sure they stay well-fed and hydrated. Choose an organic or synthetic fertilizer and give your garden a boost. You can even find one specially formulated for your plants, whether you need a vegetable fertilizer, fruit tree fertilizer, succulent plant food, or a general garden fertilizer. Follow the application instructions and don't add extra. Remember to always water immediately after, as directed, so the plants won't be burned by the fertilizer.
How can I keep cool this summer?
When you need a break from working in the yard, shelter under a covered gazebo or a patio umbrella. If you have sturdy structures like a house or a shed, make your own shade by attaching shade sails and awnings. However, sometimes shade isn't enough because it's just too humid out. That's when a misting fan or patio mister can help cool the air and turn a stifling afternoon into a relaxing day. Return to lounging in the sun when that chilled air is ready.
What can I do to quickly prepare for outdoor entertaining?
Spending time with friends in gorgeous summertime weather makes the season even more special. Set Up For Summertime
As we stretch into the dog days of summer, your garden and landscaping will weather more sun and heat than earlier in the season. That means you'll need to consider how to keep things cool with proper tending and irrigation. Just like we can get sunburned, trees can lose their leaves prematurely, grass can get scorched, and plants can dry out. We can help. Lawn Repair and Patching
Burnt, or scorched, grass has a distinctively shaped discoloration that isn't green. It happens when plastic or metal sits on the grass and bakes in the sunlight, or a reflective surface shines continuously on your lawn. You'll discover it once you move something that's been sitting out in the yard, like a trash can. Car mirrors or windows can also scorch grass when the sun angle is just right.
Water scorched grass well and wait a week or so. You should see the signs of life returning by then. If it's damaged beyond repair by extreme wear or pet behavior, you must replace the grass or use patch and repair seed to fix it up.
Whether you’re doing upkeep on your current lawn or patching the bare spots, keep in mind which type of grass it is and tailor your lawn care to it. Match the grass type to how much sun your lawn gets — or to the existing grass type if you're doing patch repair. For example, if your lawn is shaded by trees with only a tiny peek of sun, make sure you plant full shade grass that's not meant for full sun.
Watch Your Garden Thrive
Make sure to water your garden. That's the way to keep it going between rainstorms to enjoy the summer flowering. A general rule when watering plants and flowers is to aim the water at the roots. A garden hose, sprinkler or sprinkler system, or drip irrigation system will work well. You don't need to water the blooms themselves. Many flowers wilt and droop when they get wet, but they'll recover just fine once they dry off. Succulents are, of course, the exception to basic watering rules, so look up your specific succulent varieties to optimize their care.

Grow Your Own Herbs
Get fresh flavors to accent your homegrown produce and spice up your mealtimes when you add herbs. They're generally low-maintenance. It's easy to learn how to grow herbs indoors, but you can raise them outside, too. Planting herbs in the ground can be tricky, as many of them — especially mint — are invasive and will take over your lawn. Avoid a yard of volunteer herbs when you keep them in small plant pots on a sunny porch, window sill, or even in wall planters. Herbs also work as a hydroponic garden, which doesn't use soil. Instead, they grow in a mixture of rock chips, perlite, or sand.
Trees as Natural Shade
Trees are the ultimate natural source of shade, and they can change the look of your yard. Whether you plant a few trees or a small forest, keep in mind this is a long-term commitment. When they're healthy, trees live many decades — and some for hundreds of years. Before you shop, plan so you know how to plant a tree — whether they're deciduous tree saplings, evergreens, or more mature trees.
Although trees framing a house may look picturesque, you should research the specifics of those trees before you plant them. Consider how deep the taproots go, the full-grown size of the trees you want, and how far the root ball extends outward. Trees will always find the easiest source of water, so be sure to plant them away from your water pipes to avoid roots growing into them. Leave a safe distance from your home, as large trees can catch the wind if not properly pruned.
