Doe the door need to be installed on the same side as the shower head?
It really will not matter which side your shower head is on. Usually, it is easier for people to put the door on the same side as the shower head so that it is easier to reach the controls, but this is all a matter of personal preference. Will it fit 57 3/4 opening?
Unfortunately, no - this model will not fit a 57-3/4" finished opening. The absolute minimum width tolerance for this model is 58", but we do have a Custom Glass department that could make a custom size for you. Can this door be installed on tub whose flat surface is 2 1/2 inches

Yes. The thickness on the base of the unit is only about a half inch leaving plenty of room.
The width opening appears to be exactly 58 inches from tile to tile. Will this door work or should I select a sliding door to be safe?
If you are 100% sure that you are not UNDER 58" at any spot in your finished opening, this door will work for you. If you are under 58" at any point, this door will not fit. It will simply be too large for your space. Please double check your measurements at several points in the opening before ordering. While the ClearMax coating helps reduce the appearance of water stains, it will not completely repel them.
