Answer This Question

Hello DIYer, We recommend that you verify your Local Building Code.  Your Local Building Code will provide the recommended R-value for your application in addition to providing recommendation or requirements regarding vapor retarders or the use of faced insulation products. Thank you for your inquiry.

Can this be spread by hand? Only have a small area that needs to be covered.

There are YouTube videos on how to do this. Basically, put some of the insulation into a plastic tub, fluff it up, and then you can "fling it" where you want.

Hello Kent, we do not recommend the installing the AttiCat by hand. The AttiCat needs to be blown through the machine for the product to be properly conditioned and to achieve the coverage and R-values listed on the packaging. Thank you for your inquiry!

The product description states 110.7 sq ft per bag, at what thickness is this? Or-what's the Cubic Feet per bag this product provides given proper blown application? Use this description instead of Max and Min coverage areas that lack thickness

Go to the owens corning website, there is info there that gives a listing of R-value vs. inches depth vs. number of bags per 1k sq feet. Why home depot doesnt have that on their site is beyond me.

Hello midwestpete, the 110.7 square foot coverage is for a R-19 which is 7" deep. Please see link below to the data sheet which provides a coverage chart at different R-values and thicknesses. https://dcpd6wotaa0mb.cloudfront.net/mdms/dms/Residential%20Insulation/10011273/10011273-AttiCat-Product-Data-Sheet.pdf?v=1748610884000 Thank you for your inquiry!

                    Answer This Question

Hello, Owens Corning does not recommend using the AttiCat Machine for a wall application. We feel that the air velocity the machine can create may not be sufficient enough for a consistent application through a wall cavity. Thank you for your inquiry!

Contact a insulation company who blows in the owens corning equivalent professional version. They cut in 1.5 or 2 inch holes and blow it in with a much more powerful machine that is inside a big box truck. They do quick work and you patch holes after.

you want to plug leaky areas with something like spray foam as a ton of heat can escape through open air flow. Unless you have something to block the flow the product tends to blow right through especially if you are shooting for denser pack.

Good Product, But A Couple Of Caveats
Yesterday we blew 39 bags into our attic, so this is my VERY fresh take. The Home Depot online "how many bags" calculator is a joke - it doesn't even ask what R-value you're going for. In the attic, preparation is important. No Home Depot in our area had the paper depth gauges, so I went around and marked studs at the 22" depth needed for R60. I marked a bunch, but during blowing wouldn't have minded having more. When it came time to actually blow insulation, the AttiCat machine worked great and blowing was kind of fun. Do it on a cool or cold day! My only complaint about the product is packaging that breaks open, causing unnecessary messes and in some cases loss of some insulation.

Easiest Insulation upgrage you can do
Extremely easy to blow in with 2 people - 25 bags took under 3 hours with a short beak. Easy to load yhe machine and easy to blow in. Best home upgrade i have done. Ordered 30 bags to do 2513 sq ft - only used 25 as it was added ontop of bat insulation. Home depot deliveted the insulation on pallets and I had to pick up the machine from yhe store.

Actual sound dampening at R60! The house just feels more solid now.
I purchased 30 bags of this insulation for my home. I wanted a higher R values and enough to cover my entire attic. We already had a thin and sporadic layer of mineralwool insulation in there. We just sprayed this pink Atticat right over the top of that. I had enough bags to spray in a nice r60 everywhere. I was able to do this with the free rental from Home Depot in about 3 hours with my wife's help. I can't imagine doing this alone without help... This insulation isn't itchy. But if you have itchy insulation, the blower hose will kick that old insulation up into the air and it WILL blow all over you. So wear protective gear. So far, there is actually a sound difference. My house's roofline is even with a busy street nearby, and we used to hear and feel every car and truck that went by. Now, you only hear those sounds if you're near a window. So A+ on sound dampening. I'll continue to monitor my electric bill. However, I'm sure with the sound difference - I'll also see an energy bill change. Hopefully an extreme one in the right direction :) .

Great product and quick to install
Make sure to check the order that they give you. Initially they mistakenly gave me just normal batts. I had to get them to go back in the store and find me the correct product before loading it on my truck. The product itself works very well and is very easy to install with the free blower rental. We installed approx 21 bags in 3 hrs.

My 900 sqft second floor bonus room only had 6 inches of batt in between the joists while the rest of the home has blown in. Bought 10 bags and had them delivered. Rented the cargo van to transport the machine and garbage bin of hoses. It took about 90 min to blow all 10 bags. Definitely have a helper load the hopper for you otherwise it will be a lot of back and forth and take longer. Very easy to do. Last night temps got to 35 degrees and this morning the room is the same temp as the others
