Questions & Answers

Does any one have issue/suggestion about the door's weight increased?

If i install the kits, is it have to be make the adjust on the garage door? I am wondering if this is worth to spend almost $200 plus i don't know how much it costs for the garage door adjustment. Thanks
Asked by: kevin
Added weight can easily turn into a side DIY project which may include garage door adjustments. In all, it should set you back around $15 (yes, fifteen dollars) for the torsion spring 1/2" adjustment rods (pair) and some online video watching time - read on. Endorsement alert: I fully paid for the products mentioned here out-of-pocket after some (mainly online) research, did NOT receive a penny from the respective manufacturers nor are these paid endorsements! Go online/big box store, ask questions, seek advice and knowledge BEFOREHAND and decide for yourself! SAFETY ALERT: BEFORE ATTEMPTING any garage torsion spring adjustment or related upgrade, go online to watch several videos particularly on garage door torsion spring installs, read ALL the included instructions, follow ALL security warnings, have a helping hand, use common sense and take your time - just like me! If for whatever reason you don't feel comfortable, pay a pro or handyman! One of the springs in my double (16 ft X 7 ft) garage door snapped so I went ahead and upgraded the opener (Chamberlain B970, under $250), door hardware before I attempted the insulation project (pair of 0.250" X 2" x 33" black torsion springs - winding bars were included in price, torsion spring steel central bearing, Ultra-Life MAX 2" reinforced rollers with sealed bearings, Liftmaster vibration isolation kit and, 3-in-1 Garage Door Lube and Blaster Silicone spray lubricants, all combined for under $120) and bottom weather seal (under $30). Once I finished with the upgrades and insulation install (broke down into several tasks), I went back and readjusted the tension of, and lubed the springs on, both the double and single garage doors making sure doors opened smoothly as expected. In essence, armed with knowledge, know-how, following safety measures, applying common sense and having the tools at hand, this is a project easily broken down into a set of steps that anyone could do! Hope this information is helpful.

were can i get extra fastners to hold the insulation in place?

Asked by: stew
I am about to use this on a 16' and a 8' door. When done I am going run pieces of the drip edge flashing horizontally across the mid-point of each panel. This will end all worries/problems of the clips coming loose.

I suspect your landlord would be very happy for you to leave them behind. Why would you want to remove them?
