Questions & Answers

Does any one have issue/suggestion about the door's weight increased?

If i install the kits, is it have to be make the adjust on the garage door? I am wondering if this is worth to spend almost $200 plus i don't know how much it costs for the garage door adjustment. Thanks
Asked by: kevin
This product absolutely will add about 12 lbs. to a two car garage door. It is highly recommended that the springs, at the very least, need to be adjusted. If you have the standard 90 lb. springs, adjusting them tighter will shorten the life of the springs and add stress to an existing opener. It is recommended that you replace them with 110 lb. rated springs. The door will be balanced better for manual operation ( power outages ) and reduce the extra stress on the opener from added weight. And also have a professional do it. A good pro will also lube the hinges and rollers as well as adjust the belt or chain if needed.

I misread and for my post, I confused Stew with BDC6868. It was BDC6868 that actually furnished the great advice. Please forgive the mistake.

Can this be installed in a living garage space? Is it harmful to breath?

Asked by: Omar
I wouldn't do it unless you put some sort of barrier over it to seal any fiberglas dust from getting where you could breath it in.

The insulation material and plastic faced on one side was the expected product and quality. The big down side and why I only gave it two stars is it falls off when I open the door (hangs from the 16 provided clips). What would have really helped would be making it 23" wide and including some sort of additional clips to keep the edges form pulling away from the door. I'll purchase some duct tape to mount it better. I really expected better from Owens Corning.

The insulation sheets were very easy to install, and doing 16 panels (two boxes) took less than two hours. I wore long sleeves, long pants, goggles, and a mask, and was still very bothered by the fiberglass causing me to itch everywhere. My garage door is now too heavy, and the motor/spring need to be recalibrated to account for the extra weight. Even though the project is complete and I taped the edges of each sheet to keep the fiberglass inside, it still finds its way around the garage and causes skin irritation. (I am probably going to take it all down and try something else.) In terms of a heat/sound barrier, it does that well.

Perhaps this is just a problem with my garage door, but the insulation really didn't fit nicely into the space. I measured as they said and left one inch more than the gap, but the problem was the depth. Again, perhaps it's just my door, it's about 1 inch deep, but the insulation didn't tuck nicely at the sides and corners. In the end I taped all around the edges with Tyvek tape to keep it in place. Hopefully that works and lasts, but had I know this I probably would have gone with some foam that can be glued or otherwise affixed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the extra money We live in a dallas. Garage faces West and doesn’t get blocked by anything until around 8pm. I installed these into our two-car garage door on a day that was about 93 degrees in May. Came home the next day (96 degrees at 330pm) and it felt like it was 75/77 degrees in my garage. You can cut the material with regular household scissors. If you put the clips on the door and the. Install the insulation, you can pierce the material with a little pressure (so no need to cut extra holes). I purchased 3M Hi-Strength Spray Adhesive 90 to make sure it stayed in place. One $11 bottle lasted the entire job. Absolutely recommend you install these.

Easy to install and now my garage is almost sound proof and neither to hot nor to cold. I love it! If you are thinking about it don't wait. It is so worth the money!
